In parrallel the springs would have same extension, but what if they are made of different materials/ are of different length etc.

Different lengths are abnormal to carry the same force

then the load would be distributed in a way to ensure equal extension, i.e. F/k = x so if k(the spring constant) is higher for one of the springs then F(the proportion of the load acting on that spring) will also be proportionally higher resulting in the same x as the other spring. For example if one of the springs has a spring constant of 2 while the other has a spring constant of 4, and a load of 6 N is hung from a parallel arrangement of the two springs, then the spring with k=4 will get 4 N (from the 6 N) while the spring with k=2 will get the rest of the 2 N. So the extension of both springs would be 1 (= 2/2 = 4/4).
