I'm part way into replacing one and wanted to share an additional tip. My Haulmaster cargo trailer had what are known as double square #2 (aka 1/4") head screws on the top. I had to research what they were and what bit to use on them. A #2 Square bit worked well and as I understand it, the most often used. There is also a doublesquare bit, also a #2, but that is not as common. My security bit set didn't have the doublesquare, just the square. I'll be reusing these screws because they seem more substantial than the screws that came with the Camco vent kit.

Thanks! Used the bit size to change my trailer vent.

Thank you very much for this video. My vent just broke and what I thought was a simple handle fix just turned into replacing the whole thing after I saw how fragile the plastic has become.

Thanks for the informative video. I did order, receive and install my etrailer Vent. I will have to trim my garnish. I wonder what is the best too for that?

Although there's several ways of doing that, a hacksaw is a commonly available tool that works very well, you'd just start at the corners of the garnish. If you have a rotary tool such as a Dremel, a small cutoff wheel would also work very well. Hope that helps! www.etrailer.com/RV-Vents-and-Fans/Ventline/V2092SP-25.html

Thanks, while waiting for your answer I came up with my own idea. I used a heat gun to soften the plastic so it wouldn't crack or split, then I made a 45 degree cut by the corners with tin metal snips. I then worked the straight piece back and forth until it snapped along the line. Then I cut each corner in half and did the same. Make sure the plastic is heated enough before each step. @@etrailer
Was disappointed to find you did not show how to remove the dome from the the base frame. Many of us only need to replace the vent dome which is damaged and the hinge system is not obvious how it is connected or how to remove the dome from the hinge.

@etrailer4 жыл бұрын
It is Butyl tape. Check out the following link. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Raynor/362BT-18x1-50.html

etrailer.com thanks I just ordered some ! I’m installing a vent on a 1969 Chevy van. Ten years ago a just used some caulk from value and it got to the point it was leaking so bad it was ruining my interior so I’m trying to do it right this time. I’m using that tape and some lap sealant 👍🏻

So it's not necessary to put eternabond tape over the caulking?
@etrailer4 жыл бұрын
We typically do not. www.etrailer.com/RV-Vents-and-Fans/Ventline/V2092SP-25.html

Was cringing watching you kneel on the unsupported sheet metal, A piece of plywood across the beams would have saved the roof. Another nit was not wiping down the sealing area with acetone or mineral spirits first to ensure it was clean to ensure a good seal. I'm still not sure why it's called 'garnish' (a food decoration) as opposed to 'trim ring' which is closer to what it does.

I’m disappointed in the flimsy quality of that vent! The sun will destroy that in no time. It’ll need replaced every couple years.

You skipped over how to take off the turn knob and interior frame piece. That's part of the install.
