A fuse would work, but breakers are nice because they reset themselves. If the breaker is for the 12-volt accessory circuit of the 7-way it would be a 40 amp fuse. If the fuse is for the brake controller it will need to be a 20 amp fuse if its between 2 and 4 brake assemblies, or 30 amps if between 6 and 8 assemblies.

Thank you your explanation was very clear and uncomplicated. Will buy the kit now!

Still relevant today because it's the best built SUV in American History. My wire on the back of the plug broke (one) and the ground on the flat plug broke after 25 years.

I'm curious why you didn't use the relay block to tap into the brake switch. There is a provision there for just this application. Thanks much for the walk through!! Zip~

Thank you for the feedback on this installation. We do not look into tapping into the relay block. We find it just as easy to tie the wire into the brake signal wire. Thank you for sharing this tip with us. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/etrailer/ETBC7.html

Its for the brake controller, to prevent overdrawing of the circuit.

Couldn't the power wire connect directly to the positive battery terminal with an inline fuse? instead of a breaker? If so what Amp rating should the fuse be? If not then can you explain how the breaker works, or is different than a fuse?
@JeffersonDrumm11 жыл бұрын
Didn't u forget the 40 amp circuit breaker for the hot orange wire before connecting it to the battery? Here you connected it directly to the battery without any fuse/breaker. Thx

Both of the terminals on the back of the fuse box already have fuses inside the box.

So near the 10 minute mark, what's is the breaker for?
@splice2474 жыл бұрын
Its just a fuse, but its a bolt on style basically

I installed a 7way pin harness to on my 2020 durango gt w/o tow package. The harness has a blue wire, so my question is can i juct connect the blue wire from the controller to that blue wire from wiring harness
@Nightmare_the_xj2 жыл бұрын
The only issue I have is the ground, should have cleaned the frame up with a grinder or buffer pad so there was clean metal for it to sit on. Then put liquid electrical tape over it.

Where were the orange and blue wires by the hitch located?
@etrailer3 жыл бұрын
They were run from the front of the vehicle for the brake controller. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/etrailer/ETBC7.html

What do you do to rust proof the bare metal from drilling at 4:21 and 5:39? What do you use to seal the crimp connector at 4:20 to prevent the wire from rusting from moisture and road salt?
@etrailer4 жыл бұрын
To protect the bare metal, you can use a rust resistant spray paint. This step will protect the metal from rust and corrosion. To protect the wiring from corroding, use heat shrink butt connectors. www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Curt/C57674.html

so where did the Blue and Orange wire come from?
@etrailer4 жыл бұрын
The blue and orange wire are going from the 7 pin connector to the brake controller in the cab of the vehicle. www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Curt/C57674.html

If I already have the 4 pole, can I just use the one on the 7 plug i got.from you guys?
@etrailer4 жыл бұрын
You should be able to plug the 4 pole into the 7 pin and wire the other functions to the tow vehicle.

how can l get power to the light inside the trailer,only work went l turn my lights on, the truck.
@firedragon616010 жыл бұрын
just asking what is the orange hot lead for on the brake pig tail
@etrailer10 жыл бұрын
gary morgan The orange wire is a separate power feed for an illumination circuit. Controllers back in the day were wired to only light up when your dash lights are on, using that orange wire. Modern controllers have light displays anytime they are active, no matter what the dash lights are doing, so the orange wire isn't needed.

You connected the ground right to rust lol
@jakesvids34675 жыл бұрын
The screw itself is the ground contact because its drilled into the frame.
@splice2474 жыл бұрын
@@jakesvids3467 yes but you should sand the surface to clean metal for a good conection, the guage for thag frame isnt going to have much contact point after a self tapper, shouldve used the oem ground cable, or sanded it down first, this will rust in months and you will be chasing gremlins
@yzhang86294 жыл бұрын
Compared to the rusty connection, I do worry about the rusty frame. I don’t trust the frame towing a load that is heavy enough to require a brake controller
