Hi there, Jeep owners. Today on your 2011 Jeep Liberty, we're going to taking a look at and showing you how to install Roadmaster's EZ Base Plate. There's five components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle with whatever you want to pull it with, whether it be a motor home or a tractor trailer. You'll need your tow bar, which is the connection between your vehicle and whatever you're towing. You'll need your safety cables, which is a supplemental connection in addition to your tow bar. You'll need your diode wiring, which takes all the lighting signals from the towing vehicle and sends them to the towed vehicle and you'll also need your supplemental braking system, which will apply the brakes on your towed vehicle whenever you hit the brakes inside your towing vehicle. And this is what our base plate looks like when it's installed.
You almost don't even notice that it's there because it's tucked up so nicely up behind the grill. But we have our attachment points here, both on the driver and over on the passenger side. The end here will allow an arm to insert into that you can remove it. Currently, we've got it removed, which really maintains that factory look that you had before. You almost really can't even tell.
I got to get all the way down here on my knees to look underneath to even notice that it's there. And just down to the left, you can see our small safety cable attachment hole. Now, this is going to use your traditional safety cables but Roadmaster's thought about that and provided us with some quick links that we can place on there, with safety cable extensions, so now we've got an easy attachment point and if we don't like the look of them hanging down, we could always take them off. Now, when you are ready to use your base plate, the attachment arms will simply slide in, we want to have this angled down and the end goal is to have the sticker facing up. We'll just push it in the hole till it bottoms out and then just give it a twist and that'll lock it in place. We can do the same thing over on the opposite side.
And now we've got our attachment points for a crossbar style Roadmaster tow bar. If you had a direct connect arms, the tow bars wouldn't attached directly to it, you'd have little eyelets for the pins to slide through. With this style, we'll have to install a crossbar to make those attachments. We'll begin our installation on the driver side in the wheel well. I've taken the wheel and I've turned it all the way to the right to give myself some room to work. Once we finished on this side, we're going to turn the wheel all the way to the left and repeat the procedures over there.
Inside the fender well here, you're going to see some pins and rivets. These three push pins, we're going to remove with our flat bladed screwdriver. There's a little slit on each side of the push pin to allow your screwdriver to go in, which will let you pop out the center, which locks it in place. Once we've got the center popped out, we can just pull the entire tab out. Sometimes the entire center will come out, that's okay, just pull the rest out and put it back together. We'll just repeat that for these three. You can also pop out the middle and use your screwdriver to pop out the rest as well. Until the center has been fully released though, it will not come out of there. We're then going to drill out these rivets here. The drill bit size you use doesn't really matter, you just want to make sure it's big enough to go into the center. This one here is a 3/16. When you drill out the center, it will grab the rivet, pulling it out, and you can just take that off and move onto the next one. They kind of just twist off of there. Those are going to just get thrown away. You do get new rivets in your kit. There's one more pin on the driver's side we need to remove. This is just underneath. You can kind of see the tire's right here so just in front of the tire there, here's our pin. With this one, you can use a flat bladed screwdriver but if you have a trim panel tool, it's a little easier, because this one just pulls out. The ribs are on the back side, there's no center piece to release it. Just kind of work your tool in there and just pry it out of there. Okay. Now, we're going to repeat all those procedures over on the other side.We can now peel back the fender liner and that will reveal the bolt on the inside that we'll need to remove right the
