The Etruscans were a culture which existed simultaneously with Archaic Greek culture. The Etruscans dominated central Italy for centuries. While their artand architecture owe a debt to their Greek neighbors, the Etruscans had many distinct artistic features and inventions of their own. The first half of this module will continue to explore the development and influence of Etruscan culture and its later impact on Roman culture.

Awesome video! Embarrassed to say i got interested in Etruscan art bc I found out its so connected to the culture of Greece and Rome. Im so curious how people back then thought intimately about politics, life, and the spiritual realm.

your presentation of Etruscan art and culture is one the best I've come across anywhere - and you've revealed the dark side of these lovers of life and beauty. Turns out they delighted in cruelty. Oh, the humanity!

10:40 It blows the mind how misogynistic the Ancient Greek were and how little we talk about this when we venerate Ancient Greek culture. Thank you for sharing this!

wow, you are so right we should then obviously erase these misogynistic contributions--of course that wouldn't leave much universally

@@waynenelson9959 KZbin says that there were 3 replies here including yours but I only see yours, so I am not sure if you are replying to me. I did not say that we should erase anything. On the contrary, we should talk about every side of it.

It's not reasonable to apply today's standards to ancient cultures. Greeks were probably not that much different from other ancient cultures in treatment of women.

Thank you so much for this presentation. A couple of comments: 1) About how Aulo Metele was dressed, actually the Etruscan toga was adopted by the Romans, as well as other uses that we think Roman today (i.e: fasces, lictors, augurs, some gods) We can supposed Rome similar to the US, in the sense that it was a melting pot of different cultures that fused and it was mainly formed by people that exiled or left voluntarily their own country to make in Rome a new life. Three were three main tribes: Etruscans, Latini, and Sabini living together, and each people brought their own culture to Rome. 2) I do not remember were I heard that inside the mouth of the Chimera di Arezzo, it was put an oil lamp, then the mouth and eyes looked as they were made of fire. Do you know something about it? Was in Etruscan times or Renaissance times or it is just another hypothesis about them?

The symbolism of rebirth in tombs - a bird serves as an image of the soul, a lion, a dog, a sheep and a bull point to the constellations in which the main events in heaven take place.

Near Eastern= Carthaginian/Tyrhennian/Sardinian. No doubt that Phoenician culture influenced both Hellenistic Greece and Roman Culture. The lion is particularly linked to the Punic Goddess Tanit who was worshipped till ~400AD with the Capitoline cult as “Uni/Juno”.

Granulation is not “a form of soldering”. There is no solder .there is only fusion . Tiny discreet fused points of contact between granules and background.
