Congratulations on a job well done, one of the quickest half an hour's ever. I am sure your how to get by an obstacle in the game has also been of some help. Looking forward to the rest of the training.

Thanks, Coyi! This is really well implemented. I would have loved to have done this when I first started playing, and it was even helpful to do this now. Really cool stuff.

It's pretty interesting seeing experienced people do a tutorial for the first time. It's so out of order. Plenty of stuff people miss or forgot about. This is true in real life too, People do get complacent and form bad habits overtime.

Absolutely. This was really helpful for me to learn things I missed, and to help drive home some reminders. I think my biggest takeaway will be to use my mirrors more.

@@ZillaBlitzPC Yeah, I never utilized the hood mirrors or the side one. Though at times I get frustrated at it failing me for going slightly over the lines, I'm using a keyboard so i feel it's harder to be precise then people using a wheel. I don't really recall ever having to parallel park in this game, Seems they're focusing more on irl driving vs the actual gameplay. Trailer stuff should be a lot more relevant though, I'm trying to wean off relaying on third person.

So far so good! When you’re concentrating, you‘re actually a really good driver 😜 No but I can imagine that talking while driving would distract the hell out of me, too, and with these ones you really have to focus. Fun watch!

Talking definitely makes it a bit more difficult for me, I've found. Pretty true in real life too. The backing up I suspect might requite total concentration. :)

You did great, one thing everyone has to remember this is not a race, take your time around the turns and swing wide, they are called trailers for a reason, they trail behind the truck and on turns they take the shortest route, if you ever see in the snow or dirt, just look at your tire tracks/marks, you will notice the rear wheels of your car act just like the trailer does, the tires do not ride/drive in the same spot as your steer tires do they trail of to one side or the other depending which way you are turning and they are taking the shortest route.

Thanks! It was really fun. I did the backing up section last night, after this, and will post that video in a day or so. I think that's definitely a message they are trying to get across in the academy: swing it wide! :)

Well done zilla you did pretty well, being an ex lorry driver myself this game is very realistic with driving physics, but the one thing i always see when watching content creators is they think they are on a race track and want to go as fast as possible, i think you did well but in a couple of parts when driving with the trailer as soon as the road opened up you did the same thing and put your foot down, the one thing about driving a lorry is slow is better because you can handle the trailer much better in slower speeds, your not on a timer 😂, quick tip to remember when reversing is right to left and left to right, if you want your trailer to go to the right then turn the steering wheel left, and vice versa, tip for your next video

Thanks! This was a lot of fun and I've definitely taken some good lessons from it. I don't think I'll be spoiling too much by saying that I did the backing up chapter and there were more failures. :)

One of the tests you showed is requiring you to drive a manual transmission, Im sure you will do great in that, European trucks have synchronized transmissions, so its like driving a car with a manual transmission, push the clutch in while going from gear to gear and releasing when done changing gears. American trucks you have to double clutch, so say you’re going up from 1st to 2nd gear, you have to push the clutch in go from 1st to neutral, release the clutch, push the clutch in again and go from neutral to 2nd. And going down from lets say 4th to 3rd you have to push the clutch in and go from 4th to neutral, push the accelerator lightly to speed up the engine rpm and release, then push the clutch in and go from neutral to 3rd. But in real life if you are good you can float gears and not push in the clutch except when stopped the vehicle for what ever reason or having to go into reverse or taking off from a complete stop.

I'm looking forward to that. My shifter arrived yesterday evening, as I was trying the backing up section of the Driving Academy. I think I will add the shifter to regular content in a few days. I grew up driving a stick, so I think I'll be okay with it once I figure out the basics.

This is hihly impressive and a fantastic addition the the games and also a great additional basic tutorial especially chapter 1 stuff. I do wonder if you select auto trans in the options if some of these scenarios will still be present? Overall a great episode and did very well, though I did enjoy a chuckle when you kept hitting that cone in chptr 1.

Scania Truck Driving Simulator 2.0 looks good. When compared to real life, in game you sit much further away from the windshield. This will affect your sense to measure distance.

I also think the one thing that game lacks, that I do all the time in real life, is move my head forward or slightly in one direction to check blind spots. I wish there were a way the game could simulate leaning forward, for example. I mean, it's a minor detail, but at certain times it would be really helpful.

I'm curious to see the ATS differences too. It can't be the same level of tightness on some of the turns, I'd think. And will they have a rotary one? :)

Another thing I forgot to add when I was talking about swinging wide for the trailer, I use the mirrors alot, and I mean alot. In cdl school I was taught to scan your mirrors, scan ahead of you, scan your gauges, and repeat. Always keep those eyes moving, will keep you out of trouble, especially coming around the corners watching them trailer tires where they are going. In the beginning I made a few rookie mistakes, learned from them, and once in a while I catch my self doing a rookie mistake. One positive thing you got going for you in ETS vs ATS trucks, in ETS you have a clear view whats literally in front of your bumper, so if in a tight spot backing somewhere, theres a small mirror in your right top corner of the windshield pointing down in front of the truck that you can use to see how close you are to the object in front of you. And in ATS the 389 in real life has a blind spot of approximately 20ft from the grill to the front of the front of the truck, so you need to guess and get a feel for how close you can get to or how close you already are to the object in front of you.

I did the backing up scenarios last night and will show them in the next episode, and it's funny you mention mirrors, because I think that's probably one of the biggest takeaways I have from doing the academy: Use my mirrors more. :)

Cool video. I imagine truck choice makes a difference here. You want the best cab visibility which, for me is the Renault Magnum but also a short wheelbase like a starter truck or three axle truck where you can lift the back axle. You've not really used axle lifting in the series.
@ZillaBlitzPC
@ZillaBlitzPC 2 күн бұрын
That's a good point about truck choice. I just went with the Volvo because I like them, but I bet it a bit different with each cab.
@samcattell1150
@samcattell1150 2 күн бұрын
@@ZillaBlitzPC the Volvo has many appealing points. Good specs, clear dash display, good power. But cab visibility isn't the best and it's a long tractor unit so not the most manouverable. Driving school looks like a great new feature, it will be very challenging in ATS if the roads are as tight!

Im sure they will make the course a bit more open when it comes to ATS, American trucks don’t turn like the European trucks do, best way to compare American vs European truck turning capabilities is as if you had a American international day cab truck with a single axle and you were sitting on the hood steering the truck while driving it, if you look on the European ones you are sitting in-front of the steering axle while American ones you are sitting behind the steer axle a few feet, except for the cab overs they got coming out again. So theres a big significant difference in the turning radius of those 2 type of trucks.
@ZillaBlitzPC
@ZillaBlitzPC 2 күн бұрын
Yes, I think they'd have to make the US course different. Some of those European turns feel impossible in a US cab. I think that's actually why I hit the cones twice early on. I've been driving exclusively in American Truck Simulator for a few weeks, and my brain hadn't adjusted to sitting above the front axle. :)

Pretty interesting.... Something like this could definitely help new or current game's/ driver's. Especially doing it in cab. You'd be surprised on how many driver's in real life do not know how to alley dock, parallel park to the right (blind side) or blind side backing. If I'm not mistaken, here in the state's FMCSA removed alley docking and blind side parking which is absolutely ridiculous.... If you get in this industry, you will do all the above eventually. I've had to help numerous driver's bc they didn't know how to do those type of backing. Training here is horrible. Profit over safety.
