I am a brand new seller - my 2nd week on Etsy. At the first glance the fees seem quite decent. But then comes in the Etsy Marketing fees... Those ones are the real buzzkiller. So far i have had 780 EUR in sales and 147.50 EUR in fees. That's insane 18.85 % in fees. Further, I will need to deduct 21% of add value tax which is 163.8 EUR and about 150 EUR in shipping costs (i offer free shipping) , i am left with 320 EUR to cover the product costs. be warned, people! ;)

I charged $30 for an item Etsy took $14! Which bonged me out! You made it sound so simple. I didn't use their labeling but was charged... I really like to list my items, My questions is, does Etsy have a customer support? And do they have an itemized billing so you can visually see what you are charged?. New to the channel, thanks in advance 🙂
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
If you have an existing bill (for example, your listing fees - which charge every 4 months for renewal), then this will deduct from any money you make during that sales period. So you would not have been charged $14 for a $30 sale. You likely already had a small accumulation of fees in your seller account (under your finances tab). You can attempt to reach out to Etsy support via the contact tab in the bottom right of your seller dashboard menu but as I said, this was very likely just your usual monthly fees.

So, raise your price 20% to cover everything, which then prices you out of the market. Etsy is robbing people.
@StarlaMoore2 жыл бұрын
If you have to price high, so do your competitors. The playing field is equal for all sellers so pricing yourself out of the market isn't quite possible. There will always be sellers who are willing to sell what you do for less. But as I always say, it's easier to make one $100 sale than one hundred $1 sales. The sellers who aren't pricing profitably are the sellers who will burn themselves out.

@Siuuu_Cristianooo9 ай бұрын
In the example you've included 20cent in the deductions, but that will be for 4 months irrespective of sale. So should the calculation be done while including that price in products price or we can even distribute the price, like if we expect min 5 pc sale in 4 month we could distribute say .04cent on article price which sums to 20 cents . Could and should we do that
@StarlaMoore9 ай бұрын
0.20 will be deducted after every sale, and/or every four months assuming the item does not sell during that period. In short, listings renew after each sale OR after every four months when a sale does not take place. And each renewal will cost 0.20. If you made 5 sales in four months, your sold listing would renew 5 times total over that four month period, equating to $1.00 in total listing renewal fees. Because this listing renewed after each sale, it would not renew automatically at the four-month-mark, since this four-month-renewal will only happen if a listing does not sell in this time frame.

I am not on printify premium yet as I was told to get a few sales first….
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
Your $0.20 listing fee only applies again if the listing expires and renews (4 months), or of the listing sells. Are you sure you're not seeing the sum total of all your fees added together? Many sellers start their shop, make a few sales, then see their total bill and assume it all came from fees associated with the sales they made. In reality, it's often listing fees and renewals. If you've reviewed your fees and you still see inconsistencies that you can't explain, I'd message Etsy support and ask.
@AllEventEntertainment Жыл бұрын
@@StarlaMoore thank you so much for the reply! I only have eight items listed for sale in my shop thus far, and I do believe part of the fees were the total of all of those listings not just the one item that I sold. Having said that, does Etsy take their fees monthly or each time you list an item do they take a .20 fee? I can’t seem to find how they bill that listing fee? I do have payment information on file as well as auto pay turned on, so I thought this listing fee was taken from my account every time I posted a listing?
@StarlaMoore Жыл бұрын
No, the fee will add up and withdraw from your payment account at the end of each month. So it sounds like you're seeing the fees for those 8 listings and your normal fees from the item you sold. Now that your items are listed, you wont be billed anything additional unless they sell or if they expire, which happens if the item does not sell within 4 months. Every time the listing renews, you will be charged $0.20. And your listing renews every time it sells, or if it expires after 2 months of no sales and is reactivated again.

Your currency will be set to wherever you set your location/currency when you signed up for your account. So you'll need to get with Etsy support if you want to change it, as you can't change this within your personal settings. As for figuring out conversions, you'll likely just need to google a currency converter. Either way, your customers will see the price listed for whatever their set currency is.

Hey Starla, great video, thank you! 🌟🌟🌟 Quick question: I'm using Printful for POD products. I'm in the UK & Hoodie costs £28 + shipping (between £5.50 - £13.65). . Selling at £49.99 (to include Printful cost + average shipping) . When I add to Etsy, the price on my store front also has tax added, making the total selling price £56.39 This seems really high....(even if I run a 10% sale, the selling price is still £50.75) . This doesn't even take into account Etsy fees 😬 . Is there a way to opt out of this? Or is it standard practice? I've checked a few other shops and I can't seem to replicate the same tax issue. . P.S. I understand certain US states charge tax, but it feels like it's making the selling prices way to high to be competitive and profitable. Thank you in advance. Mel 🤔

Hi, do these shoutouts not affect the conversion rates? If a lot of people visit and no one buys? Won't this affect the quality score of the shop/listings? I've read this so many times. Even on a blogpost of erank. I'm asking because I've seen you reply on one of the commenters here that it doesn't affect quality score and thus also not the ranking in the search results.
@StarlaMoore2 жыл бұрын
Your conversion rate has no effect on your shop, rank, or listing quality score. It is a metric for your reference only buy has no impact on your shop. If it was eranks blog where you saw this we'll need to go editi it, as it's a huge myth that conversion rates have any impact at all on your listings. Feel free to link me if you can find because if one of our guest writers did publish this, it'll need to be edited asap. Conversion rates are for your reference. They hold no weight over listing quality, shop quality, or rank.
@StarlaMoore2 жыл бұрын
I actually just found the blog post you mentioned and I'll be bringing it up with our team today because it is quite misleading. It's not the conversion rate that has an impact on your listing quality. It's the sale itself. Not making a sale does not harm your shop. But making a sale does help. So it's the sale, not the overall conversion rate itself, that has an impact. This is outlined in Etsy's article, "How Etsy search works", help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015745428-How-Etsy-Search-Works?segment=selling&_ga=2.150131198.995970481.1659094743-1726786246.1658437102 Thank you for brining this to our attention!
