I think, despite all his personal human flaws, Errol Flynn was a seriously underrated actor. I can’t really argue with this list of his greatest movies but somewhere on that list should be The Charge of the Light Brigade. My personal favorite is They Died With Their Boots On. Like Errol Flynn the film is seriously historically flawed but, as a movie, it is most entertaining primarily due to the performance of Flynn. He shows a dramatic flair mixed with light heartedness but also exhibits tremendous emotion filled interactions with his frequent co star Olivia de Havilland as this would be the last of their many movies together. This all culminates on their final departing good bye scene together that exudes with emotions of love, longing, tenderness and the foreboding expected doom. I personally think Flynn should have been nominated for an Oscar. All in all Errol Flynn was a legend of the screen in the golden age of cinema.

I think Errol was a very troubled man, who couldn’t give himself in any relationship with a woman. He slept with many women and also was married and had children. He was abusive to his wives and was unfaithful to them constantly. His children hardly got any attention and were witness to terrible drunken and drug induced aggressive behaviour. He was tormented by low self esteem and never was happy. He needed to self medicate himself with a lot of alcohol, later also heroine and cocaine. To call that a happy life is really absurd. He couldn’t live so he preferred to die young, as a hopeless alcoholic and drug addict. He was so talented in many ways but his mother had abused him so often and so deeply, that he was destroyed as a young boy.

My favourite movie star 🌟 Born sixty years to the day before me, something I'm very proud of. He was a man definitely before his time
@thomaschacko63206 ай бұрын
Errol Flynn remains, to this day, the finest Robin Hood of all time. (Sure beats Kevin Costner!) He deserved at least an Oscar nomination, for leading a film that represented the best of Hollywood. He was a thoroughly underrated actor, who might have been taken more seriously had he applied some moderation to his lifestyle. Of course, if drinking, smoking, and womanizing were disqualifying factors, then Bogart, Tracy, Gable, and Cooper shouldn’t have been Oscar contenders, either. Bette Davis always looked down her nose at Flynn’s acting abilities. But many years later, she viewed “Elizabeth and Essex,” and said to Olivia DeHavilland, “God, he was good - I was so wrong about him!” Pity he wasn’t around to hear it. Flynn did have the chance, on occasion, to prove himself in non-adventure roles: “Uncertain Glory,” “Cry Wolf,” “The Sun Also Rises,” and one of his best, “That Forsyte Woman.” He even displayed his song-and-dance talents in “Thank Your Lucky Stars.”

Honorable mentions should go to "The Sisters", "Charge of The Light Brigade", & Errol's not great, but most solidly entertaining movies: "Dodge City", "Santa Fe Trail", "Adventures of Don Juan", "Desperate Journey", his last film with Warner Bros. "The Master of Ballantrae", "Kim", & finally his two late supporting roles in "The Sun Also Rises", & "Too Much, Too Soon".

@@vernpascal1531 Agreed, I'm surprised I missed those, the powerful "Edge of Darkness" was probably his only true ensemble effort where he blended in perfectly with the rest of the cast, not showcased as "the star", as was the norm.

@@dk60ish Good point. Flynn was a better actor than given credit for no question. I've hardly seen any of his films post Objective Burma. Hard to watch him after WW2, not the same guy. The sparkle in his eye was gone, and his raging Alcoholism and Drug Abuse took it's toll quickly.

Very solid list. If anything, I’d say bump off “They Died with their Boots On” to make room for “The Adventures of Don Juan”. Then again I always liked his swashbuckling films more than his westerns. I miss Errol Flynn. It’ll be a while before we see his like again.

Yeah that was surprisingly good. saw it about ten years back. I just picked up The Errol Flynn Western Collection and watched Montana last night. Oh Brother! It was pretty bad. First of all it was obviously California on a Back ranch where it was filmed. It looked like they shot it around summer as everything was Dead Brown, and The Sheep would have nothing to eat but rocks and dirt. The only thing that was good about it was the cute song with Alexis Smith, and Errol shooting a gun out of a slimeball's hand.
