Have a similar Adwest rack in my series 1 XJ6 that needed new seals so it was very useful to watch your video and know exactly what to expect before I took it apart.

Similar to an XJS rack. Nice to see someone doing it properly. You know when you buy a "Reconditioned" one, that they only replace half of the seals, if you're lucky.I have the rack out and on the bench with the new seals.

Hi Paul, Your video was very informative. I have been looking for the ptfe seals for years. Now the kit has arrived from K&C. Woud you be so kind to describe the process of streching and reshaping the ptfe seals? I'm a bit worried of tearing/damaging them. Thanks, Marton

Bring the seal upto the edge of the seal recessed seat then using a small screwdriver put it under the seal and stretch it using the seal seat edge, roll the screwdriver around the seal seat edge gently stretching the seal as you go around, it does not take a lot of strecthing before you can get the seal to fit into the recessed seat. Once it's in, using a strip of plastic like the round middle of a washing up liquid bottle, wrap this around the seal then secure around the plastic strip using a jubilee clip, tighten it so as to compress the seal. Leave under pressure for a few minutes then the seal will have compressed back to its design size and it can be reinstalled. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your instructive video, it has been a great help. I need one further bit of information if you please. Can you tell me the contact information for the supplier of the gasket and seak kit for the tower that includes the 4 white split "piston Rings" ? You mention the supplier in the video but I have been unable to find them. I can find this kit for a sereis 3 but I have been unable to find a supplier here in the US for a Series 2. Thank You. John

@@wapsac Thank You Paul, I have actually rebuilt the rack - with the common kit of seals etc. Everything was OK accept a leak out the end of the pinion shaft- so now I learned about the O ring that seals the torsion bar on the inside of the input shaft. So rack came out and tower came off but local rebuilder- Coventry West - say due to shortages they won't sell me the parts. I will be contacting Kiley Linton shortly. Thanks again. John Mims

Great video! What kind and brand if power steering fluid did you refill with?
@wapsac2 жыл бұрын
I just used a standard brand, from Halfords. Does not need to be anything special, when these units were new oils were quite crude compared to whats available today

@@wapsac thanks for the reply. How much fluid did the system take? Any other tips when filling the rack up with fluid? I'm about to do this on my S2 this week.
