EU Tries to Kill End-To-End Encryption

Today, we’re geting into the EU's controversial measures threatening end-to-end encryption (E2EE) under the guise of combating CSAM. Meredith Whittaker from the Signal Foundation warns that these measures could dismantle encryption and erode our privacy. The EU’s client-side scanning proposal scans messages before they’re encrypted, undermining E2EE and potentially opening the door for abuse.
Historically, sacrificing privacy for security has seldom enhanced safety. Examples include the NSA's PRISM program and the UK's Investigatory Powers Act, which expanded government control without significantly boosting security.
To protect your digital privacy, use messaging apps that prioritize E2EE, like Signal, Wire, Threema, and Session. Always use your own encryption and understand the technologies you're using. Operational security practices, like compartmentalizing communications, using pseudonyms, and regularly updating software, can help safeguard your data.
Stay informed through resources like the Electronic Frontier Foundation. This push to undermine encryption is about control, not protection. By understanding history, we can better guard against future threats. Stay safe, stay informed, and take steps to protect your digital privacy. Don’t forget to like and subscribe for more content like this. Your support is greatly appreciated, and I'll see you in the next video!

The head of Europol started the conference out saying "anyone who grows cannabis in there basment is a terrorist" (I'm paraphrasing), At an end up blasting long after that, originally I was going to do a video about this showcasing the level of stupidity that actually exists in these agencies but at the time I really had to reconsider because something as dumb as that really isn't worth my time to begin with.

Most interesting was Internet Explorer had some hidden history folders that where hidden even from power users. I'm old enough to remember when the US's Clinton Administration in the '90s wanted to implement a so called "clipper chip" into all communications tech - it provided strong hardware encryption BUT provided backdoor keys to law enforcement. People in power don't like everyone to have secrets, they prefer to restrict secrecy to themselves. As an Australian I'm a little embarrassed of our data retention laws but I wonder - if I use a VPN does that mean my ISP can't keep my metadata?
@test-rj2vl
@test-rj2vl 25 күн бұрын
They will ask it from that VPN company then. And for that VPN company your money is just 1 drop in large ocean so it's cheaper for them to comply. So you need to google what people say about this company before choosing one. And then you can still expose yourself because if you use same same facebook or google account with and without VPN then the end result is that those giants now know both your real IP and your VPN IP. So those VPN ads that talk about privacy are just money making machine. In reality you need to know what, why and how if you want to get actual privacy benefit.

You’ve got this slightly wrong! There is no E2EE for any user of a smart phone or the next generation of computers. All of them will have Neural Processing Units, which perform the client side scanning pre-encryption as you use the device. Some of these NPUs may have the capability be commanded remotely to report flagged content the NPU observes. Either way it will be incredibly important to remember always.. that big government is watching everything you do on your device, whether it is actively or retroactively. E2EE is dead until we move away from Apple, Microsoft and Google.

This is a bit misleading. The EU is not a monolithic entity. There are at least 3 different entities involved: the EU commission (which can propose laws), the EU parliament and the EU council. While the commission loves to propose weird regulations, the EU parliament usually stops them and right now is against chat control.

With all the modern “neural” chips embedded in modern devices they can basically intercept a message before it is encrypted. These AI chips will have the ability to know what is on your screen at all times. The only way to have encrypted communication is to do the encryption on a separate offline device and then move the encrypted message to the online device somehow.

And the EU sees itself as something better than China. I give up, im leaving this sinking continent once i finish my degree. These guys have no idea how hard and resource hungry scanning AI client-side is. How many legit apps or websites would be massacred by some irrelevant officials who are so bright they cannot open .zip files but decide all technology. Lack of resources to implement scanning killing off small apps is esentially enabling and deeply encouraging monopoly as if current lobbying and bribing for favorable laws was not enough. Or that a nokia from 2004 would not handle any scanning and would be illegal. Absolute joke that just proves that democracy is not the best people ruling, but anyone that gets enough people to yell their name is the one to rule. As immature and wild as picking popular jocks as captains of teams during PE in middle school. Policies and common welfare is nowhere in the equation because the crowd decided and everyone who disagrees with the majority gets no power. Scientific method and all common liberties we got were an extreme minority views at one point, to not respect minority views is to despise our own origins. It is a blasphemy to criticize anything that the majority supports and it is treated as hostile as if i told bad stuff on church some 50 years ago. People believe we advanced but we did not, we just changed our pantheon and what was sacred yesterday is not sacred anymore, and what was not sacred yesterday is sacred now. People only know of democracy as a religion and solution but people forgot that separate states were also meant as a quality check, combined with freedom of movement people would leave tyrants but in europe and america on federal level cannot flee from it. Wasnt federal law meant to be only the absolute necessary, now extended to any whim of the congress? Or in europe where our cops ask no questions really whether to extradite anyone? It could even be made up accusations and a headhunt from a government and nobody cares. We got it so good we can live entire life in ignorance and never feel any meaningful consequences for it, while a minor cut in finger was enough to depart back in the day where everything required attention and wisdom. Now we can believe whatever delusion we pick and get by, pursue pretty much any career and get enough food to live, even if we break the neck we can live till old age thanks to modern hospitals. Consequences are gone and ignorance and arrogance is beyond belief. As usual a peasant cant do anything while his lord sets the rules without any quality control just to exploit more. We have not advanced much from middle ages besides having more wealth and a bit more knowledge, the same backwards spirit that burned witches, bullied scientists and allowed executions on a whim of any lord powerful enough. Now that the laws are getting tighter, all common sense gets illegal or gets you harrassed if legal, monopolies are set up so hard i do not feel like i want to achieve much in this world. I honestly do not wish for a house, career, fame or even having ever a family of my own. Overrated. There is nothing worth of notice and aspiration of any sentient being in this world. And the sacred majority is the reason for demoralization of everyone else.

Thats fucking insane, and would destroy security, as if you make encryption illegal means anyone can read your stuff, not just authority. If they need the key, get a warrant and get it from person with the key, don't just make more copies and leave them laying around where anyone can get them. Plus its not like you can't encode your messages manually, so it doesn't even stop criminals. It legitmemetly just makes crime easyer and thats about all it does.
