On my own run, I had some crappy luck. Wolgast was allied to Burgandy AND the neumark event didn't fire. I had to declare through a claim on Neumark to occupy the Tutons where I managed to get almost everything occupied before Poland attacked and occupied 2-3. Except poland was at war, and as I didn't have any access to the baltic sea I couldn't get any of their provinces in the peacedeal. But I couldn't peace out or Poland would take it all. So I declared war on Stettin which had grown into Wolgast by taking... the province of Wolgast. Spent time coring it, then could finally get the Tuton provinces except that Poland had peaced out the year before taking the province of... Dramsburg. RIP the mission claims for getting Dramsburg and Neumark together, something normally so easy (Poland was going to be a long-term ally). To add a little salt in the wound more than the massive amount of war exhaustion, manpower depletion, and gold loss I'd taken from like 5-6 years of permanent war and conflict? Well, how better than to give me the option to buy just neumark (and only neumark) a year after our war, and the extra debt I needed to take on to pay for it was caused by the Tutons in the first place... Still, as my first time seriously playing in the HRE (which I'd always avoided except for Austria due to the AE) it could have been worse. I could have done it before I had the experience to survive all that bad RNG.

Is anyone else struggling to play as brandenburg in 1.33? I've been looking for some good guides to follow but after several restarts it's really hard to meet all the conditions redhawk mentioned in the video. Usually poland won't ally me (even after royal marrying them, and then they go and ally someone that rivaled me) and the first war against one of my rivals is really difficult as they tend to ally two other nations, not just one. Is there a more beginner friendly way to play brandenburg that doesn't require cheesing and near perfect starts?

You can often get an agenda to take a port in Wolgast, so you can attack them before the neumark event fires - If not, fabricate and declare. As soon as Neumark fires, you can trigger the mission and get the other claims - If Neumark doesn't fire, either annex as normal and pay the dip, or restart. And if you couldn't humiliate any rival for the age objective, leaving Wolgast with one province and Humiliating them is the better option - You don't need all five provinces to trigger the next mission.

I found your 1.31 guide better than this one in one way - it actually demonstrated (not just talked about) how to turn Protestant and form Prussia. IDK why, but the first time I did Brandenburg>Prussia a couple of years ago it seemed easy. This time I when I converted to Protestantism, I ended up with 3 Disasters building simultaneously!! Religious Conflict, Peasant's Revolt, and a third one I can't remember but it gave me a -3 Stab hit - OUCH. Thank God you can only have one active disaster at a time, but helping the player navigate the transition from Catholic Brandenburg to Protestant Prussia is definitely helpful, imo.

19:40 You forgot one reason to keep Poland around: fighting Bohemia! Delaying that one carries the risk of letting Austria PU them and you REALLY REALLY REALLY want Silesia, which is an economic giant and their province with Rudohori, Plzen and Cheb is very valuable too. The nations in the northwest are small ... but Bohemia MIGHT be expanding into Hungary and get that second gold mine, which would make them really powerful ... so "beating up Bohemia" is important!

It's usually better to expand into germany when starting as BB. This is bc you can usually vassalize TO after their war with plc. Bc of this you can focus on allying Austria + 2 electors to become emperor. After becomming emperor you dow Poland and call Austria in to take the provinces. In my last BB game i had 150+ AE with most of HRE before taking back Teutonic lands. 5 years later or so (1549 ) i changed to protestant for printing press. Its crucial to stay Catholic as long as you can so you get less AE with allies / GP's like France, Aus, Eng, Den, Swe, Pol etc.

What I like to do as brandenburg is to neutralize Bohemia early on with Austria and go Hussite. It has some great military aspects, including allowing a resting army tradition of 100(or at least close. Cant recall off the top of my head) 20% national manpower modifier, and a 10% war score cost reduction against other religions. Once you unlock the holy war cb with religious ideas that is very OP as it basically gives you claims on the entire planet.

I have tried this play through as Brandenburg over five times, and I’m unable to replicate it. My loans put me in enormous deficit, which means that if I don’t want to go bankrupt I have to delete my armies, which will get me invaded. I’ve had Bohemia declare war on me twice, because of which I went so far into debt that I was forced into bankruptcy. Both Austria and Poland suddenly became domineering and unallied me, leaving me even more vulnerable to invasion. I don’t know any solutions to any of these problems, if anyone knows something on how to get rid of debt/pay off loans please let me know.

its not that bad if poland declares on the teutons before you are able to, from my experience they never full annex them and you can get them with minimal AE as a vassal. Then just get their cores back in exchange for favors or break alliance and take cores back by force. resulting in less admin cost, AE and a vassal with stronger troops than the HRE minors

I like the starting strategy, but personally, since I *know* I can't become Prussia until the Reformation fires anyways (barring some shenanigans where I get really lucky with a Hussite Bohemia spawning a center of Reformation), I start by forcing the union on Bohemia. I just promise the Poles land and then don't give it to them. The Ottomans will eventually rip the PLC a new ×××hole anyways, so I can always be a carrion bird and steal Prussia then. The gold province and the sheer amount of land you can get for a relatively low amount of AE is more than worth the opportunity cost.

How are you selling titles with no Crown lands at the beginning?

This was the previous patch, it was still possibile to sell titles with any amount of crown lands. Now you need at least 10%.

I want to become Germany so I guess I gotta dismantle the HRE as early as possible. I'm trying to get the Palatinate elected as the Emperor so I don't have to fight Austria as early, though.

It is so hard to get Wolgast and Teutons without guarantees or strong allies. Also in 1.33 Selling land doesnt owrk anymore, so better takem burgher loans and pay back 2 of them instant.

I tried this in 1.33.3 but I couldn't sell titles only seize land. After picking what everyone gets. so, I just seized land and now my burgs and clergy are a minor inconvenience away from "screw you guys I'm going home" then got war decked by bohemia cuz to heck with prussia i guess XD

I've been trying for over an hour and every single time Wolgast allies either Poland, Lithuania or Bohemia. It makes me simply not want to play when the dice aren't in your favour in the first month of the game
