I got clip by the EUC pedal right above the high top boots. Luckily only broken skin and not bone.

I'm enjoying your detailed safety talks. So that jury-rigged lower leg protection you were talking about at 15:30 actually exists! The SK-481 Ankle Protector made by Komine is one. I bought one and don't use it much, but I keep thinking if I get a really heavy wheel I'll use it (those pedals scare me).

Very nice coverage Dawn, love your videos! I am definitely investing in foot protection as a new EUC rider still in training with a pulled hamstring. 😂

Ok! I'll try to do that later this afternoon. This is an easy one and I've tested it out a few times too!

I love my Sidi ST. It took some time to get used to riding with those, but now, I can't ride without my boots. They have already saved my leg when a car hit the side of my boot while trying to turn right and didn't see me.

Thanks for the video! I have to say you think the same way I do. But I take away a few good observations.

Hi Dawn , Great and informative. Ive soent hours researching this and my take is a balance between protection and foward back flexibility. Brings me to ' trials boots' The are super comfortable and very flexible, particularly sole. ( As this is needed for trials riding) . Protection is way better than high tops and actually depending on brand you can vary this. Im thinking of getting the Gaerne balance pro tech or xtr. Currently i have a pair of shima strato . They tick all the boxes ! Except the boa system of closing comes loose when pushing on the pads sometimes. Very frustrating. Hence the change Hope this info is helpful Cheers, David Lynx and 64 years young 😅

Try adding soccer shin guards to your boots, front & or back. I did that for my first moto boots, before I could afford better. A whole lot of duct tape held it all together quite well for a custom fit.

Very useful video, thanks. I have hiking boots and work boots that I use for the euc, but Im ordering the forma adventure low boot to try as well.

Hi Dawn, I tested my motorcycle boots on my S18 and found my Italian MC boots, "Forma Adventure Low cut", just about right. Thanks for the videos.💜

Very informative, as usual. A lot of riders went the skate shoe route, which I get. However I went with Redwings Fire Chief boots with a zipper opening upgrade. They have protection for toe heal and the metal shank at the sole. For my next boots, this video is a perfect guide to use. Thanks for posting.

You're welcome and thank you! Reinforced toe box is a good idea. A friend got hit by a car at low speeds but impact still broke his little toe.

In S.E.A, people ride with flip flops on. Same crowd that rides 7 up on a motorbike, without a helmut :-)

I have been wearing a quality pair of Salomon hiking boots. They seem to strike a good balance between protection and stability and comfort.

I think next protection topic would be upper body inflatable vests. Like the ones now required for motorcycle Dakar participants. Maybe not as silly as it sounds for the folks that want to go as fast as Coach, but without his incredible balance abilities.
@DawnSChampion2 жыл бұрын
I've made a lot of videos about inflatable vests already - for equestrians. There are a lot of cons, in my opinion.

Thank you for this great insight --so thorough, detailed and introspective. ‘Arc Rides’ also said a thumbs down for motorcycle boots, because they lack sensitivity, but his choice leaves you very little protection--so I’m torn cause Zen Lee loves the track style motorcycle boots which are stiff all around--also it seems (?) your not riding with spiked pedals, so these adventure boots or possibly tactical boots might be a happy medium…? Thank you

I ride with spiked inserts. It's all personal preference. Get the most protection you are comfortable wearing. I do 100 mile rides solo as my favorite ride...so all day comfort is one of my top priorities.

For thick..combat boots it seems. How’s the sensitivity? Or will you get used to it? I’ve seen one from under armour, maybe it’s worth it?

Not over, if you’ve seen the accidents. They were probably going fast though.

Totally disagree I'm afraid. Maybe you haven't seen enough falls , particularly off road. I've fallen on steep MTB trail and hit rock and wheel with upper ankle. Boots every time . Trials boots recommended as reasonable protection but not stiff like most motorcycle boots.
