Very sensible and stylish too. I wear an open face cycle helmet for 15mph or less, full face motor cross helmet for up to 30mph - I don't go faster, wrist guards, elbow guards, knee guards, high ankle shoes. My rides are a KS-6X, S18 and a Ninebot One E+. I'm considering a jacket with protection built in. The light grey jacket Adam wears looks good. Good video, soft professional style, you obviously put some effort into producing them.

Thank you for this information. I wear regular skating knee pads and elbow pads as well as wrist guards and a second hand downhill bike helmet that I found at the thrift store . I always think it looks cool to wear all black- I think it represents the EUC coolness better than random jeans and hoodie- like it gives the impression- this chick is sure of herself yet safe and serious. I'm glad you have made the point about EUC's being new and how we should try to always exhibit safety and coolness to make EUC's generally appear safe and desireable as a mode of personal transport. I am just starting out and only go at low speeds, so I don't get armored clothing yet..

I had to travel overseas to get my gear! It’s very hard to find women’s gear let alone PEV-suitable gear. I wear the same Leatt knee guards but in the larger size or for slower trips I found some motorcycle jeans I like locally with slim but effective knee protection, though they’re probably a size too small as that’s all the shop had. My jacket is Street & Steel from the US and it fits ok, but as you point out still not a perfect fit. I can move ok in it. I managed to find one without pink! I sometimes wear Demon crash pads for hip protection which I actually bought for inline skating a while ago. I can’t wait for specific PEV protective gear and especially women’s fit to hit the market. Surely can’t be far off... right? Perhaps we’ll just have to design it ourselves.

In California we have Motoport which is a company that creates custom-sized motorcycle gear. You can pick the design, color, add pockets, add reflectors, add armor, etc. for jackets, pants, and even jump suits. Unfortunately it's super $$$. Also, if I ever used them I would fly to their store to get measured because I don't trust measuring myself. They also alter or re-size gear if a person loses or gains weight. It's pretty cool.

Anything can happen. I got into bike riding over the last two years. I have a lot of nice bike paths in my area where there are stretches of up to 10-12 miles where you don't encounter any cars. Even on the busiest days, there are not a lot of people on them. I was heading out on ride to the beach. I had a strong headwind so I tucked using my drop down bars. I try to keep my head down also to cut wind resistance. I am not sure exactly what happen, but I veered right on the bike path and when I noticed I was about to contact a fence that prevents you from going down into a large drainage ditch, I think I panicked to move my hand away so that it wouldn't hit the fence and when I did that, it caused my bike to swerve more and ram into a metal post. The bike stopped, my body didn't. Even though the event took a fraction of a second, I do remember thinking that it was a good thing that I was wearing a helmet during my brief flight through the air. Luckily, nothing severe except having a few spots on my body hurt for a week. I would never imagined that something like that would happen. I always envision a collision with a car, person or another bike. Maybe a freak mechanical failure, but not running into a metal pole because I just wasn't paying attention. When you are young and weight nothing, falls are much less likely do to do damage. But I was 59 years old and weighed 215 pounds naked, so accidents are far more dangerous.

My worst fall was at 40-50 kmh when my V12 had its pedal snapp off at the 4 screws. I had zero gear that day and got away with bruises on the usual spots + sprained wrist which is still healing 1.5 months since the incident. Today bought Leatt knee guards (they're awesome!) and a full size warm motorcycle jacket with built-in elbow and shoulder guards. Looks fantastic, is a bit heavy (good workout) and provides me the confidence to be between motor vehicles in not too busy traffic. As an added benefit, I must repeat what cat said regarding other road users to take a geared-up euc rider more seriously. Oh yeah, and I have a full-size motorcycle helmet with jaw protection though something less bulky will be needed for summer months (motocross helmet likely).

EUCs are so awesome. I’ve had mine for less than a month now and ai never want to be without one again. Mine is a slow wheel though, the V8f. I have a Bike helmet and wrist guards. Now I’m looking around for what other safety gear to get for the eventual crash I’m sure will come at 35 kph. From what I see, lightest full face helmet I can find, pads for the joints and some abrasion resistance (perhaps lazyrolling will do).

Thanks for the video. The search for gear for my wife was a holy grail quest...thankfully it's done now :). The sizing is often really off for women gear, we had to return things more than once. We got the same kneeguards (leatt) and wristguards (decathlon) in the end; very good for the money. She liked the Predator helmet (DH6-Xg) in white and for a jacket we could find a dainese airframe D-1 (white with pink zippers) in which we put a back protector. She doesn't go fast yet so the jacket is fine for "basic gear" as you say, but eventually she might need a full chest protector like you have.

Great informative vid! It's funny that my worst falls have been at slow speeds: < 20 kmh. Luckily, I haven't gone down faster. Even with ~8k km on three wheels. V8; Nik+; EX. I stupidly dropped my Nik+ in the ocean. The result of a freak fall, at a very slow speed, next to a marina. Oh, lithium batteries and seawater. Not a good combo! I've only gone down on my EX once when the main board died ~15 kmh. I get a new board Monday! :) My best piece of protection is my pro skateboarder pad shorts. I tend to fall onto my left side. My first fall, V8, I got a huge bruise that had to be drained at a sports clinic. Most of my gear is 3D and kevlar motorcycle gear. It's OK at best. I thought it would protect better. I still have gotten bloody from falls. I would like a full jacket protection yet it's too warm for me. I'll probably get and wear one as the temp drops, here in Maine, USA, as winter approaches. EUC girls! Wonderful! Peace...

Having recently broken my hand in an EUC crash, I'm finding that the state of hand protection is frankly inadequate. Gloves and wrist guards just aren't able to keep your fingers and metacarpals from breaking if you hit the ground at 25mph like I did. Interested in anybody's thoughts on more aggressive hand protection strategies...currently toying around with boxing gloves and considering 3D printing some supports/guards to go with them. Only problem is they're awfully bulky.

Hello! Great video. I am just getting into riding with my husband and have a begode 14". I am using gear I have from rollerblading and snowboarding right now but need to invest w/ better gear b/c my husband does longer/faster rides and I might want to be able to go up to 50kph at some point. At least i want to fall well, as I'm 52 yo :). I am reading a lot about level 1 vs level 2 gear and also about hard shell vs impact protection (ie/what is more important, sliding or crash protection). I am bit on the smaller size, about 62kg, 167 cm, so finding things to fit with level two protection is challenging. Also, we mainly have heat here (even in the winter, the coldest days are about 20 c- summers may be 40c +) Any pointers would be helpful. I live in the UAE and can have things shipped from about anywhere. Thank you!
@monocat.1011 Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your comment! For going up to 50kph, most mountain biking or motocross gear will be enough in my experience. I like to wear mostly motorcycle gear, as most jackets have multiple layers and can be adjusted for colder or warmer seasons. For higher speeds I’d definitely recommend getting a good pair of motorcycle boots and a jacket (and maybe some pants) that are abrasion resistant. :) Hope that helps!
