Thank you for this. I’m in 8b and want just one eucalyptus but was worried about it being out of hand tall. Appreciate seeing they can be lopped to stay shorter.

What zone are you in and how cold will it get there in winter? I would love to put Eucalyptus in ground but not sure it can survive our zone7b winters of 10-20F at night

What would you say is the most hardy one you've had success with overwintering?
@RainDropFarms10 ай бұрын
Nicolii, willow leaf, is very hardy. So is gunnii.

@@RainDropFarms any suggestions on where to source those seeds or starts? I can't seem to find them available anywhere in the US.

I tried to overwinter my silver drop in my hoophouse (Zone 5) and cut them down so that there is only about a three-inch stump. Now that I'm seeing your video I'm thinking that I cut them back way too much. Any chance they will sprout from the base or root suckers or do they need those leaf nodes to come back from? Thanks for the video!
@RainDropFarms4 жыл бұрын
You may see foliage sprout from the root stock, don't give up hope! We have a few varieties that are more cold sensitive that do this for us every year.

I have some baby eucalyptus that I started from seed recently. My question is, do you think that I could overwinter my eucalyptus in zone 7B, upstate SC.??? The lowest temperature we get here in the winter is maybe 15 and that's rarely. I've considered growing it in large pots so that in the winter I can move it back inside my tiny greenhouse. What do you think?
@RainDropFarms4 жыл бұрын
I think that you should certainly consider it, yes! I have a grower friend in zone 5 who is successfully experimenting with overwintering outside in her field. She mulches heavily and then builds mini tunnels over them and they've survived. It will be dependent on variety and the winter, but you should try!

@@RainDropFarms I also want to try planting some Eucalyptus. I think it's the one that you mention in the beginning. It is listed as "Eucalyptus Silver Tropfen". I live in a region where it can go down to like -5 Fahrenheit. It says on the website that it is perennial but needs some extra protection. Could you give me any tips and tricks ? Some suggest covering it with a plastic bag in winter time

We send many of them to market, dry some and sell some locally, but they all get used!
