The Thriller was my favorite ride at Euclid Beach Park. I am now in my eighties and wish the park had never closed. In a way these old wooden coasters were scarier than the newer ones which are higher now as in the new coasters you are locked down pretty tightly but in the older coaster, like the Thriller, you just had a bar over your knees with plenty of room to be lifted off your seat. Being held tightly as the modern coasters rather takes some of the fright out of the ride.

Thanks for recreating Thriller and the Racer! Two more coasters I just missed riding and regret to this day. I only lived maybe 20 or so minutes away on Cleveland’s west side but missed this greatness. The Thriller looks awesome and a nice long ride too. The Racer is no slouch either. What great coasters. I contacted Russell Alan Hehr and he spoke at our historical society. What a fountain of knowledge. Thanks again.

Thanks for the memories. I went to Euclid Beach every summer between the mid 1950’s - 1969.

Euclid Beach was the park of my youth! They HAVE saved some of the Thriller cars and one is mounted on a truck and you can go for rides on it when they bring it out at special events. I’ve promised that if I won a lottery and could afford it, I’d have The Thriller rebuilt somewhere! Interesting fact: there was no “lap bar” per se. You slid under a handle bar that you could hold on to, but you were not locked in. Also, my understanding is that the original 2nd hill was much taller, but it was rebuilt to a lower height because it slowed down the train too much!

Yes, the second hill was taller, but only in the first season. They changed it for year two, so those who rode it opening year got a rarity.

I was too young o ride this coaster but walked the property as a kid while growing up on 168th and Grovewood.

I wish I could have ridden this, closest I got was the truck mounted car Ken mentioned. From this recreation it seems sort of similar to Big Dipper at Geauga Lake.

I believe the highest wooden roller coaster was in Denver. I went on it in 1971. I was higher than the roller coaster!
