I've been shopping for a security system for about 2 months and I settled on the Eufy system (because a subscription wasnt necessary). Two months ago, the Eufy battery powered security camera doorbell wasn't available so I postponed purchasing the Eufy security system. Today, I was getting ready to buy a Ring Bell 2 because Groupon was having a sale. I'm so glad I searched for battery operated Eufy securitiy camera door bells today before buying the Ring Bell 2.

Good summary. I think this may be the one I'll get for my house. I like the option to use it wired or battery powered, although I'm not sure if power goes out whether the inside doorbell would sound or not.

If you loose power to the house, then no. But i'm not sure what would happen if you loose power to the doorbell itself. I'd think the indoor chime should still work. I'll ask them.

I do like the battery-powered option with this one and 180 is pretty awesome. Also, the thumbnail is pretty cool! Comparatively, the Arlo doorbell's 1:1 aspect ratio is a solid point on their side. It is a tough choice to choose between these two, but I think I like the Arlo doorbell more. Especially if it will be able to connect to the Arlo base station.

Actually that usb port on the back of the HomeBase 2 will be for external storage soon maximum 128GB. It says in the eufy security app -> HomeBase settings -> video storage -> question mark icon top right

Battery powered seems like a good idea for people not comfortable with doing the wiring themselves or renters (where it may not be allowed to wire). No monthly fees is great as a starter.

Good review. The dealbreaker for me would be the fact that it is a non-removable battery. One of the worst things about the ring doorbell version one is that you have to take it off of the outside wall and bring it in to recharge it. Version two made it much more convenient with a rechargeable and removable battery. So this in that regard is like the first version of ring. If they came out with a battery that you could simply take outside to replace the drain battery with, I’d be more inclined to think about it.

This is a nice upgrade from the previous model but apparently it no longer has the 3s buffer prior to alert for some reason. I like that it can be hardwired as well especially since the battery is not removable and chargeable outside the device. They may never do it but I personally would like a power over ethernet version since Wifi can be finicky and ethernet is more reliable and secure even though it sometimes is a hassle to install. I also would like it to have a way to easily back it up to a home server instead of there home hub only. This new doorbell may sway me in the meantime though.

While Eufy is absolutely my first choice for a smart doorbell, fwiw, although 256 bit encryption is what you want for smart home device security, the term “military grade” means nothing. It is a marketing term, nothing more.

I am currently looking for camera options for my home and havent quite decided which products to purchase. I have decided that I want to purchase products from Eufy. After watching many of your camera videos Eufy seems to stand out in every category. My hope is to start off with purchasing the Eufy doorbell 2 and wire it to my house. SteveDoes I have watched many of your videos and they were very helpful. I orginally went with an Arlo ultra 2 camera and an Arlo video doorbell, but Arlo cameras were not performing as advertised and Customer service was terrible trying to resolve camera issues and ended up returning all of it. Thought about Ring, but still concerned about security. Eufy seems like a perfect solution, with a battery version and local storage. I had a package stolen a week and a half ago, and it was a purchased item on behalf of my friend (who gave me the money and I ordered it). So I told my apartment manager and she recommended getting a ring camera (said she has one), so here I am checking out different options. But I live in an apartment and right at 12:00 from my open door is a wall so I would need the camera to pick up if someone came from the side and tried to take a package, even if that person ducked.

Local storage is good except they need an sd slot so you can add your own sd card (up to 1tb). They have limited your storage to 16gb presumably having a way to delete unwanted ones and I would hope it records motion as the person approaches. Rings chime is compatible with the wireless doorbell, and comes with many sounds that you can choose from. It appears that with Eufy you can have any color you want as long as it is BLACK. At one time (not sure if they do it today) RING had a policy that if your door bell was stolen, just call them , they would shut it off, and send you a FREE replacement. Like you I also prefer mine attached with double sided tape. Of course a thief could just pull it off and away he goes with it. But I did like the review, gives me some things to consider when I do my replacement door bell.

So just to confirm, you can wire or run off of battery and it works with a preexisting chime? Are you able to mute either of the chimes and just get notifications? We have a dog that does not like hearing the doorbell.

The pre-existing chime will only work if it's wired. If you don't have it wired then the HomeBase will chime. If you need additional chimes you can use your Echo devices to announce someone has rung the doorbell. And yes, you can mute the chime on the HomeBase and just get phone notifications.

Both are great products. Eufy doesn't have a monthly fee and you can place it anywhere you want. Arlo is going to cost $3 a month, comes with a few more features and you have the piece of mind of having your clips saved to the cloud. I've mostly leaned towards No Subscription products but, i just had a friend that was robbed. They took EVERYTHING. Unfortunately he had no cameras but, if he went subscription free and just saved everything locally in his house the robbers would have taken that too and he would be left with nothing. It has me leaning a little more towards a subscription and saving clips to the cloud now.

Great review. Just what I've been looking for. Please I don't want to screw the doorbell on my door as I stay in a rented apartment. I want to stick it like you did. Do you have a personal suggestion of the tape I can use that's strong enough and won't fall off. I am not worried about someone pulling it since it'd record the face of the thief in the home base storage. I need a strong adhesive that can withstand any weather. Please your suggestion.

Great review. I was wondering if the doorbell camera allows you to do live view, so that you can pull up and look at your front door at will, without having to have the camera triggered by someone walking up or someone ringing the doorbell. And do you know if the doorbell works through the echo show so that you can see and or talk to the Camera through the Echo Show Screen.

Great video as always. However, all of these video doorbells are a bit of mystery for me, $200... for a doorbell. I have a $25 wyze camera that will notify me when a person is detected, has 2-way audio, and local storage. So what do I gain in a doorbell? A button someone can press to send the same notification that a person has be detected on the front porch, I can then open 2-way discussion of who and why are you here. Another reason I find a $200 doorbell hard to justify for me, is that delivery persons do not ring bells, they toss, take the pic and run off. Its rare to have unexpected guest, but again, the Wyze cam will notify when it detections a person walking up the sidewalk and alert me of their arrival.

If you are planning to run a Eufy ecosystem meaning security cameras + video doorbell like this ... I strongly recommend you buy the cameras separately and then buy the wireless video doorbell. Today ( 3/12/2020 ) they have a special going for the cam 2. Cameras are going for like $106 I think. The thing is the camera kit comes already with the base station. If you buy this doorbell it will come bundled with another base station. This means you'll have an extra-base station ( not really needed unless you are going to run a lot of cameras ... like 12 ). You can save like $64 or so. Again this might not apply to you as you might only want to buy this video doorbell but for me that I want to use their security ecosystem this would make more sense. I chatted with one of their online representatives and they said this doorbell can only be sold bundled. Good luck :D

Still work to be done - I have had this installed for a week so far and here are my thoughts. Looks slick - quite understated. Decent build quality. At first the doorbell was picking up all motion - even when set to human (even outside the activity zones). Every passing car triggered recording. Now this has been fixed in ver 2.2.0.0. Still it captures humans walking by outside the activity zone - needs to be fixed - Eufy has told me 2-3 weeks. Video can be jerky at 2K resolution and delays in audio between me and people at the door. If I change the setting to low video quality compression (1600 x 1200) this resolves video smoothness and audio delay. Apparently this will be improved and is also an issue with the iPhone which they are fixing. Battery lasted for 5 days in week one! Week 2 is better but have already lost 2 bars - probably because everyone walking past still triggers the recording. This has to improve as so far the battery life is terrible vs my Eufycam’s. The Homebase chime is loud and clear. Cannot get it to connect to my Echo Dot to chime though - despite it enabled in the Alexa app and doorbell press activated. More work to be done on the firmware and in a month or so reviews will probably be more representative of what the doorbell is capable of...
