I wired my battery doorbell because I knew motion detection would eat up the battery....family going & coming mostly from our front door. But my situation is different...live in the country on a not busy road with only a few deliveries to the door a week. Good, fair review, thanks.

I have been researching video doorbells in the UK for weeks now. There are so many contradictions, e.g. reviewers versus users on the web, and a lot of the comments emphasise the difference between what manufacturers claim and what actually happens in practice. Have given up for now!
@Byteofgeek
@Byteofgeek 2 жыл бұрын
I take some of the claims, battery life for example, a little bit like how car manufacturers claim MPG 🙂 it's all done in ideal conditions guaranteed to get the best results. There are a lot of factors at play with these devices, they're not perfect by any means however there are significant differences between brands. As a consumer it's not until you start researching that you realise some of these differences are more important than others, local storage being the one for me, for others it might be how long the battery lasts or how good the 2 way audio is when they're on the other side of the world 😉

The doorbell will work if your internet connection is down but you may lose some functionality, however it will still ring and I think you might actually get to play a small clip as well. If you're recording locally instead of the cloud then obviously it will continue to record the footage.

First of all thank you so much for your detailed video. I do have a quick question / issue on Homebase2 connection to my router. I do have tp-link Deco X20 mesh system, when I try to connect my homebase2 with the internet , it has blue blinking light only and then I could see error message "Network Exception, please try again later." With an error screen titled "Unable to add HoemBase2". Could you please help me out? When using the 2 way talk feature how is the delay. Numerous reviews have said its not great compared to the competition (Google, Ring etc). Have eufy tried fixing this. I know it’s dependent on factors like WiFi, distance, 4g. How has this delay been for you when using it daily.

I don't use the 2 way voice that often but when I do it's about a 1 second delay which I think is perfectly acceptable given what has to happen. You're correct in that type of connection and speed of connection does affect these things but I've never had problem in that regard.

Don't think there is anything as standard in the app which kind of makes sense given its detecting people approaching however there is a tutorial on the forums I think or in the help section of the app that uses an external sensor to control the doorbell camera. You might be able to hook that up with an automation/geofencing to achieve what you want.

After about 4 months, and changing the settings from most sensitive to hardly any, no matter what the setting is on, my doorbell will pick up any car or a walker going down the street. I have my zone set to just in front of the door, but the street- 45 feet away- still triggers the camera. I've called customer service (very nice to deal with!) but nothing they suggest provides a difference in operation. And it's not uncommon to have someone leave something at the door and the camera doesn't pick it up.

Thanks for the feedback Clive. 5 is the most sensitive so if setting that then you'll probably want to set it to human only. I just got the Ring Doorbell Pro and the audio when talking to the person at the door is hit and miss to say the least, don't get half of the conversation their end and when they speak they get an echo of what they are saying. I nearly bought this Eufy kit but went with the Ring Pro as I wanted good instant notifications to my phone when the doorbell is pressed and also I ready sometimes Eufy servers or something go down and the doorbell doesn't work for hours which was something I didn't want to happen. My question to you is, Does it alway register and notify when the dorrbell is pressed to you phone? Do the Eufy servers or whatever often drop out and then the doorbell is inactive? The 2 way conversation via your phone decent quality and you can actually have a conversation without missing what the other person is saying>? Thanks
@Byteofgeek
@Byteofgeek 3 жыл бұрын
OK, let me take each of your points 🙂 When I first installed the doorbell there were some issues with the servers but that seems to have been sorted a while ago now. I've not noticed the servers being offline for at least 4 months now and when they are it seems there is also an update to the doorbell available so it might be they are updating their systems. When they did go offline the doorbell would still ring for me as far as I can tell or maybe nobody rang the doorbell. I have however tested it with no internet connection and it definitely still rings. Notifications are instant, I've never had a problem with them but I know some people have. Those that have seem to have it resolved by reinstalling the app or resyncing the doorbell from what I can tell on comments on this video and in the Eufy forums. It's easy to blame the product but people forget there are so many factors involved with notifications and any one of those could be at fault. I've only used the 2-way audio twice and on both occasions I've been miles away from the house, the audio had a delay of less than 2 seconds which I think is pretty good considering it's got to go from my phone to the Eufy servers and back down to my internet provider and then my doorbell. When I've tested it outside the house, the audio has been almost instantaneous. I feel you can have a conversation perfectly fine, there are environmental factors that might affect this, how good your mobile signal is, how far is the visitor from the doorbell, is there any traffic noise in the background etc. Hope that has been helpful 👍

OK so all these security doorbells can be stolen if someone wants it bad enough but a lot will depend on what you fix it to as to how secure it is. In some regions, but not all, some of the manufacturers will offer a replacement under certain circumstances - I don't believe Eufy is one of those that do but your house insurance would more than likely cover it. As for the security issue you've mentioned, I'd not heard of that. I've read the thread on the Eufy forums and it is concerning so I'm going to reach out to Eufy/Anker about this given the number of views on my video to get their response. Personally I've not had a problem and it's still in use to this day however there are solutions to this if you're really worried about it happening 👍

Suggestions I've seen for this that have worked are to try, 1) log out of the app and back in again or 2) restart phone or 3) reinstall app and resync or 4) if none of that works then contact support - they are very good and will get to the problem with you but try the previous suggestions first.

Nice review, purchased the Amazon repackaged unit and it is currently going here for 129.00 with taxes. Amazon refurbished units come like new, they are new from my experience so 70 off is a good deal. I've also done that on their Echo's and basically got 3 for the price of one. I had a Ring pro but it only lasted 2 years, probably a fluke.

@@Byteofgeek Well I received mine today... The unit was received as new, normally renewed products come in a brown box but this came in the normal packaging. The instructions are horrendous to start. They say boot red and then to white, this does not happen but rather boots to flashing blue. When registering the base I choose the base 1 model but needed to reg under the base 2 model. Right out of the box that is an issue, you should not have to select it, the software should identify which is which. The difference, Base model 1 does not ask for scanning of the QR code from the base where version 2 does. I actually started a return until I went through my own built in trouble shooting to figure it out. Their manual is an absolute disaster, basically a quick guide with zero trouble shooting, zero led codes, zero. What it came down to was looking carefully at the choices during setup. When you choose the base for setup it should ask whether you have V1 or V2 or better auto detect. Let's add something additional to the homebase one homebase two idea. It should say homebase 1080 and homebase 2K, it does not only a picture (they look pretty much the same) . I believe those are the differences. Diabolical user manual, with really zero instruction nor troubleshooting which in the end only shoots their company in the foot. Sorry for the rant but in the end this might help someone out there. Wish I could say I was the only one but there are many case out there on Reddit and others. The answer is not on the web. It's right here. Just some thoughts.

If you can possibly power this with a doorbell transformer (available from Amazon) then I would highly recommend it. The camera doesn’t run directly from the transformert, but the transformer charges the battery automatically, it seems to let the battery drain to about 80 - 81% and then charges it back to around 90 - 91%. Also Eufy have been promising HomeKit compatibility for a long time now, but there’s still no definite date yet.

That's pretty clever really as it should avoid the overcharging fire that lithium loves to give us. I was thinking about replacing my 720 Ring with the Ring 3 but I think I'll go with this Eufy instead. Kind of a shame they are both owned by Amazon though.
