I learned that 1) massage guns/foam roller don't increase muscle length , what they do is they it creates a relaxation response. Two lessons learnt: 1. You're one of my favourite youtubers I've subscribed to because your content is real, raw and amazing which expands my knowledge and confidence in life and training. You're camera quality and back drop settings are also beautiful. 2. Albeit I feel a benefit from deep tissue massage especially on the mental health side of things...it may not fix my muscles that I refer to as tight and I need to stop obsessing over loosening my muscles through stretching and massage. I must develop my muscles to improve their quality more through exercise, movement and watching Coach Eugene to feed my muscles and brain. 🧠 🤯

Great content. A good coach will always answer things as 'it depends' which means it's not a cookie cutter approach for everyone.. . 2 takeaways from this video: 1. I’ve had a massage gun for a while, but have always been a little skeptical as to the important of using it for improved training. Listening to you explain how these may be better for just perceived relaxation of the muscle gave me a better understanding of what foam rolling / massage gunning may be good for. Also learned from this that just taking the muscle through the full range of motion is more beneficial than spending money on some fancy device. 2. I recently started reading Circadian Code by Dr.Panda after I heard you talk about him on one of your Instagram stories, so I’m glad you covered a sleep topic in this video too! Learned that an ideal sleep position could be considered one where airways aren’t obstructed and muscles are in a neutral position. Obviously dependent on whether or not it’s a comfortable position, but perhaps finding the middle ground is what anyone would consider the “ideal sleep position.”

2 LESSONS LEARNT: 1. 'tight' muscles are not tight. muscles technically can't be soft. but somehow the marketing industry have us believe that we need to soften them 😂 loading through a full range of motion will help more than foam rolling it. you are probably just increasing your tolerance for pain. or maybeas humans we are just lazy and want an easy way out instead of painful hard work to make changes 2. muscle building = 'activating muscle fibres' and both works strength = what your goals are. some people just want to do as many pullups as they can and some want to compete in squats so plan according to your goals!

Just smarter ones. Like whether we do a behind the neck shoulder press or not. I currently love behind the neck pressing with dumbbells and get my best mind muscle connection with them. I like to let the weight sit at the bottom and stretch down, then slowly apply pressure and press it up. Behind the neck dumbbells with lighter weights and stretching at the bottom have brought up all my smaller delt muscles and I have solid caps now. Lighter the weight, the farther you can go behind the neck and get more delt engagement IMHO.

Would it be cost by the way they sleep as well?

I learned that massage guns do nothing (and I was tempted today to use a test one in the store, but I remembered that if you were here, you would slap it right out of my hands, I think). And then I also learned to chew your food. Which seems obvious, but I for one am guilty of just hoovering food down. I blame it on growing up with 7 siblings and you had to finish what was on your plate before you could take more. So naturally, I would eat fast to be able to grab more food since I had so many siblings.

Hi Eugene, Big fan of your work videos and work and I thank you so much for your workout info!! I am a massage therapist so I was curious as to how you felt about the foam rollers, massage, sleep positions and some things you're spot on and others I think you're slightly incorrect but I don't blame you since everything is business and some things get blown out of proportion. I agree that foam rolling and trigger point balls are not good when you're simply smashing your body weight on it. However with awareness and knowledge of what a trigger point is, you can locate these and simply "hang out" by placing minimal body pressure. This shouldn't be aggressive in any nature because as you may know, this will also cause a neuromuscular response to contract due to physical stress and trying to "protect itself". In other words Overload. But a body with trigger points will inevitably come across pain and limitations. I have other points but I'm not here to debate or argue, just want to shed some light on certain things but this is getting long lol. Sleep positions play a huge role on how you will feel on a day to day basis as well as how you perform. Also body awareness is key!! If you slouch and constantly crane your neck down when looking at your phone; there is no doubt that massage will only give temporary relief. It's all about knowledge my friends. Stay safe 🙏 I'd love to share more info if you're interested and have time.

25:05 yes it does, I have 25 years of experience in sleeping like that. Same with my family and girlfriend. The imbalances (shortened bicep and some shoulder muscles that actually led to injuries in high school) can be counteracted with simple stretching, but I'd suggest all belly sleepers to get rid of the pillow, or at least use a small cushion with a lot of give - better breathing, prevents neck and trap strain (something I've struggled with almost all my life), forces you to change position more often. It's also easy to adjust by squeezing with your arm :v From what I've learned sleeping on your side or at least belly is generally better because of the risks and drawbacks of sleeping on your back (and the study of mammals including hunter-gatherer humans which just reinforced my conviction). Even if you don't suffer from sleep apnea you most likely have short periods of choking or snorring which wake you up for long enough to affect the quality of sleep, but not to restore all the brain functions (it usually happens during deep sleep), so we don't even remember it. I'm fairly sure there are tons of videos about sleep research on youtube. People with sleep apnea often use a golf or tennis ball attached to the back, supposedly helps some of them, but getting rid of your comfy pillow and using a harder mattress is 10/10, lying completely flat with your skull on the hard-ish surface isn't fun and even if you fall asleep like that you'll shift to a different position at night.

I learned that if you don't create the need for your brain to increase ROM, why would your body change the way it currently moves (my left ankle is so tacky and lacks dorsi-flexion due to multiple injuries; I'll try a different approach!). Cracking Q&A as always!!

I've been consuming weight lifting content for the past few years and only now after watching your channel for the past week have I learned that there's actually a difference between training for strength and training for muscle building.. I've always assumed they were one and the same.. don't your muscles get bigger the stronger you get? What's the difference?
@davepazz5803 жыл бұрын
There is a difference but they are still intertwined to some degree... If your goal is strength only, you have to train by constantly being mindful of weight loads being moved and chart your overall progress by exactly how much you are able to lift... this of course will have the side effect of growing muscle over time. If your goal is muscle building only, then you have to train by being constantly mindful of the amount of muscle tension being delivered to the muscles and fatiguing them well... However, you *still* have to be concerned about getting stronger in your lifts to some degree... since adapting to lifting heavier loads will mean muscle growth as well.

It's almost the more you learn the more you know Then the more you know, the more you realise the more you don't know and want to know .. hahah

@@davepazz580 I've found that my views and methodologies have changed, exactly to what you said. I've found that trying different methods that may have no worked in the past, have worked better now (especially since I've began to get older). So things like TUT, Eccentric training and even time based intervals have worked well too. I don't know if I'm getting smarter or dumber as the years go by and and I try new things 😂

Things I learned: 1. Sleep position DOES matter and impacts your respiration. As something we do on the daily, we tend to ignore it and let our lazy asses lay down but if we constantly do this, we should maximize the benefits of it. 2. Massage / Therapy guns are HYPE. They're used when muscles are 'tight'... except muscles don't get tight

First up, thanks for the fist bump. I learnt to ditch the foam roller for some better training. And to ditch the probiotics. That was some interesting content, also Dorsiflexion! Gunna stop bashing my calves... Downloading Gambaru and signing up, I’ve taken advantage of your free content for too long!!🤣 for reals though, so much of your knowledge is in my routines and methods. Thanks, coach!

1) there really isn’t any optimal sleeping position because it is subjective and is driven by unconscious forces- your body will move spontaneously whilst you are sleeping. However, you should be focusing on keeping your airways unobstructed. Get a mattress and pillow that suits you. (I Highly recommend the dunlopillo luxurious latex!! And if you want to learn about sleep importance, read Mathew walkers book “why we sleep” it’s a must 👍) 2) understand your why! Keep authentic and organic. When thinking of starting or your business, Just start. Be self-aware. Wanting to help people is a important factor but you need to love what you do. Do more critical analysis! Aim to elevate people’s problems, because not everyone is the same and it requires you to have critical thinking skills. Be a genuine human 😃.
