Man idkw but any day that i lift i sleep awfully, i hate this, also started to listen to audiobooks to be able to quit my non-stop train of tought, too much stress, no sleep, i go through massive meals but no weight gain at all

The biggest struggle is not during the workout. It's getting the proper nutrition and sleep. I calculated calories for a few days after not gaining weight whatsoever thinking I was eating 2500 calories. Turns out I was eating like 1900 or so. I'm still struggling adding that extra 600 calories every day. Some days are a success, others not so much. It depresses tf out of me. Like how do I eat the amount I have to eat to gain weight.... I workout like crazy and eat as much as I can but seeing no results (even declines sometimes) pisses me off. My patience is running thin lol.

Yo I know its been a year. but here is a super easy slick trick for you. first off if you get your protein goal on 1900 thats great, and it makes this easier. simply add a shit ton of nuts and seeds to your diet. they add a ton of calories with being barley noticable when you consume and high in healthy fats and protein. it is super easy to add say hemp seeds to a -salad -cornfalkes -lunch -dinner anything. add peanuts or almonds or any other nuts. and you basiaclly add about 20 grams of hemp seed is 120 calories. adding 20 grams of hemp in 2 meals are easy 250 calories and 6 grams of protein and 10 g of fat. thats pretty worth. a random different source of calories thats healthy came to mind is Tahini. for 30grams (which is a good amount) you get 180 calories 5 protein 16 fat (a lot of fat) but its not that bad. These foods do not cost a lot, and are easily addable to most of your regular foods you already consume! hope this helps! im vegan and while everyone would assume I would not get enough calories or protein, I now hit about 160-180 grams of protein a day, with 2000-2500 calories a day. my goal is to maintain at the moment because im a noob, and really no need to bulk or cut for me just yet.

@@ThatDude925 Unless you're really overweight you should bulk. I'm not saying you should eat 5000 calories but you should be on a calorie surplus. 2700-3000 calories is nice bulk, I get it eating a lot of food sucks especially if you have a small appetite but it's the only way to put on weight. If you continue to eat at maintenance you are not going to progress especially if you are natural.

eat animal fats bro. Butter, lard ghee, tallow. Get in extra egg yolks and drink full fat milk. you can reach 500-1000 calorie surplus easily this way!

It's so refreshing to hear you say about reducing volume and to do less! With all the generic influencer coaches the general message is DO MORE! Recovery is king IMO and often massively overlooked. I have personally seen the best results by training less... At the end of the day if you're training truly hard and honest it will be VERY hard to train 6× a week.

I struggle with the same thing. Slowly putting on fat instead of muscle is a real downer for me. Telling myself I need to change things in regards to nutrition but never actually doing anything about it... not knowing where to or how to start eating less whilst dealing with hunger and sugar cravings

I think my biggest issue is eating. Firstly not always getting enough calories enough or the right calories, this is compounded by the fact that I've never really taken calorie tracking as seriously as I should. Other than that I feel like my actual training and recovery is fairly good. Not too much, not too little and it works well for me.

I also tend to struggle with calorie intake but I've found what really helps me is liquid calories. With the right ingredients you can bring a protein shake up to 700 to 800 calories. Adding things like frozen fruit, milk, peanut butter, even ice cream if it fits your macros. This makes me less full as it's more like a drink and I can drink it quick on the go

"I think" might be your problem. Really make sure you're eating enough and getting enough protein before you write that off as a non-issue.

count calories for 2 weeks, then u'll have an idea of what to eat evereyday to be on either maintenance or slight surplus and work from there

You don't eat enough if you did you would gain weight it's that simple. Count your calories for a month and eat the exact same amount or above to gain weight and see if you're actually gaining weight

When I started working out, my two main mistakes were lack of sleep and not eating enough (not being in a caloric surplus). I always thought I have been eating enough and was disappointed that my weight stagnated. Then I created my first diet plan (I think it was from the website called Dietarize). I realised that my previous food intake was way below my needs, although I thought I'm good. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3600 kcal in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd understood the importance of diet earlier.

@@eduardop2111 idk bro 2000 in meat is a lot. say you choose a fatty cut, rib-eye...330ish for 4 oz. 2000 would be 24oz of meat. 5k wouldnt be sustainable if it's everyday.

@@eduardop2111 I understand, I see it all the time, people are training too weak zero difficulties. I am now helping another friend and only after two months of training together he started eating normally, I just had to show him how it should look . For example, the plan requires you to do 10 reps, these should be heavy reps where the first set feels hard and you can do max 12 and the last set you barely do 10 most people just do 10 reps with a burden that doesn't even tire them out and therefore they complain about the lack of effects. The body does not have a strong enough stimulus and the appetite does not grow because it does not require a caloric surplus

Eugene, about stratigically leveraging junk food to meet caloric demands, I also came to that conclusion. I find it humorous when I hear bodybuilders complain about the difficulties of eating enough to continue meeting increasingly higher caloric demands, when a simple and easy fix is adding a little junk food. I can even leverage junk food and stay; I could stay lean eating peanut butter most days of the week, after an evening martial arts class or gym session. As long as it was moderate, controlled portions, didnt blow my caloric allowance, and my basic nutrional demands were met beforehand. It worked.

@@aimelo419 it's a personal choice for me as I like the taste of it. However, can't deny the overall benefits of including pomegranate in a diet. For example, I have fresh pomegranate as my preworkout and I've never looked back since due to the nitrate benefits to increased blood flow to name a few 💪🏽🔥

Sleep is the hard one for me. I'm up early, work all day, run kids around after work, get home, eat dinner, make sure the kids are squared away and in bed, and only then do I get to work out. 8pm to 9pm is when I get to work out and I get up around 3am to 4am. Puts a serious limit on how much I can sleep.

Put on some bulk on my pecs by switching to dumbbells and doing 3 sets close to failure and a bigger range of motion, when compared to barbell bench press, where I typically did 5 sets and stayed further from failure for fear of getting stuck under the bar. I totally endorse cutting number of sets to avoid junk volume.

Training of late has been tough with a busted knee and damaged shoulder that's preventing much progress of late. Nutrition has been challenging as well for a long time now... Think that may be the biggest thing holding me back. Thanks for the video!

Fitting in the necessary calories has always been a huge factor for me. I never feel like I can eat everything I need in a day and even if I am on top of it for a few days. One off day where I miss a meal or don’t eat and I’m right back to square one it seems. Consistency really is key. The other thing is little injuries like my wrist and ankle which make it hard for me to return back to training at full capacity. Would love to see a video on injuries in the future if possible. Also curious to see how gut health may play a part here. Keep up the good work, love your content Uncle Eugene! 🔥

I’m doing calisthenics and have been gaining muscle very slowly. I track my diet and weight. I’ve slowly shed my beer belly but am struggling with the last inches. Also my weight remains fairly constant. I tend to underestimate carbs and overeat on fats. Finding that balance in food is the hardest challenge of all I guess.

Some do everything meticulously and still struggle. The reality is not everyone can look like Ronnie Coleman or Phil Heath. I have been training for over 15 years and am still only about 195lbs in shape at 5 11" so still on the small side and its not likely i will be able to get much bigger at this point. I still love to train so I have come to terms with this and just focus on enjoying the process

I have thought the same thing about Junk Volume. I am cutting down! I did read up that Krieger has now said 20+ sets is okay. Jeff Nippard has a video on it, if you're curious. Though I still think junk volume is a thing as I have already adopted some of your training tips and am seeing improvement - Thank you!

My biggest problem with building muscle is building it evenly on "both sides" of my body. My upper right and lower left tend to be stronger than the opposit side. But I know they don't have to be perfectly equal and currently I'm pretty okay with it. I try to stay aware of it while training and build muscle on both sides and connect my muscles to the mind. Including unilateral movements really helps to keep proper intensity and gain size and power! Great video !! :) Greetings from Germany

I agree with you about having a non physical mindfulness hobby. I just recently started hiking again. I walked everyday for a month before I set off on a 24 mile hike. My body and mind was absolutely destroyed after that. I couldn’t recover at all. I was still hiking everyday after that and was lifting weights. I couldn’t even concentrate. It was affecting my speech. It was like I was drunk. That’s when I started to realize the importance of recovery and I truly learned how overload can really affect someone’s life mentality and physically. I started reading everyday while drinking coffee or tea. I haven’t felt better.

Tried everything, I am a skinny fat dude. Tried to cut and shed some fat but my arms shrank. Tried to bulk my love handles increased. I just want to look thick with definition. That's my main goal. But I can't achieve it. Been lifting naturally for 3years. Right now I look big but I do not have any separation that I really want. My training is more strength than hypertrophy.

Perhaps include a hypertrophy phase here and there to grow more muscle. Strength training is good for size, but training specifically for hypertrophy will grow muscle just a bit faster. Bigger muscles will push against the skin more, and over time the "separated" look will appear more.

I know this is probably not something you are super familiar with, but would you consider doing a video for people who put on fat really easy, but who want to pack on a lot of muscle? Seems like the problem there is that carbs help you pack on muscle, but they also make the scale just climb super fast in easy fat gainers.

For me its always been finding time to do all the meal prep and eating as my work is unregimented shifts. This also has affected when and what kind of workout i can do, keeping my weight stagnated.

I love to eat but also hate looking flat and fluffy most of the year around. I also feel fitter when i'm lighter. But then feel like i'm spinning my wheels when i try and "gaintain". The constant battles within myself :')

Great vid coach. I found during lockdown in the UK that my training at home probably wasn't giving me the stimulus on the muscles to compliment my calorie intake, therefore ended up with a little more body fat than I wanted. Now that gyms are back open, I'm hoping that stimulus will kickstart some new muscle growth 🤞

One of my biggest struggles is getting enough sleep or getting a decent sleep rhythm. Also, finding the right amount of Training Volume is something i struggle with all the time. I maybe need to say that i have a rare Bone disease and i can't train with extremely high weights. So i use to aim for higher Volume and the use of intensity techniques. To me this is really demanding most of the time and i'm constantly struggeling at finding the right amount of regeneration time (sorry my bad english.)

Used to think I was a hard gainer in my teens, quit smoking, quit drinking, started eating right and doing the right exercises. Back then I was 60kg, now I'm at 85kg, was at around 95kg during the first covid lockdown.

Hey Eugene, in regards to mistake 2, I think you’ve missed the fact that you can build lean muscle while being on a caloric deficit. As long as you eat an adequate amount of carb/fats for energy to fuel a stimulating workout, and a sufficient amount of protein to induce muscle protein synthesis, you would be able to gain muscle (and potentially even lose fat simultaneously).

Sure it's possible but it isn't sustainable. You can grow on a deficit for a short while but not year round.

@@ArifKhan-zb6fg chances are you just wouldn't gain as much muscle, honestly I trained like that unknowingly for a long time and my gains were very slow. I stayed lean, but as soon as I added ONE extra meal a day I started growing much faster with no noticeable fat gain.

In the 4 or so months I've been going to the gym as a hard gainer, ive gained a solid 8 pounds. Brining me from 150 to 158, sometimes I wake up and I'm a wee bit over 160 and then I lose it sadly. It's definitely diet for me, my breakfasts are usually great, it's just lunch and dinner suck because I hate cooking, also because I'm too lazy to get ingredients. We'll make it, slowly but surely.

Btw, there are also studies that suggest that being a non responder to training doesn't mean to reduce your training volume but to actually INCREASE it. You might neeed way more than the usual 10-20 sets per muscle per week that work for the majority of people.

My biggest issue is mind muscle connection. At the beginning it never used to be too much of an issue but since starting strength training I stopped focusing so much on mind muscle connection and now later on in my lifting journey it’s worse than it was at the start which is a bit strange I imagine lol.

About the only thing I'm good at is being present, unwinding and sleeping. For bulks I gotta track; to avoid bloat, to eat enough but not too much, I want a very lean bulk because too much weight very easily affects my form (disabilities) and it's nice not needing a new wardrope, but cuts are easier so it balances out. Training I'm unsure yet, still finding the perfect balance, good exercises for me, etc.

could you make a video on recomping while skinny fat? I mostly train with calisthenics and I know I've been getting stronger (e.g I couldn't do any pull-ups in Jan but can do 6 now) . Physique wise there isn't much difference unfortunately

Train harder to see your muscles first you need to build them recomposing is a basic beginner's mistake . Worry about reduction or recomp after a year of continuous training, otherwise you will be skin fat
