for me, the most important part was missing: playing with the actual high speed technique, and focusing on your right hand shot from the neck. The most difficult thing with this piece is to figure out right hand picking, and playing slowly you sometimes alternate and sometime sweep between the strings. All that can be clarified when if you record yourself playing at 75% or 80% speed.Nice lesson.
@danaeverhart64873 жыл бұрын
Alex I know there are parts that I could perform with much practice, but my fingers and my hands have become stiff and less than good! But I accept these things that come with the aging process, but that surely won't stop me from watching and listening to you my friend. Thank you for all you do! I still do a rough version of Steve Vai's " For the Love of God" that is enough for me. Lol peace 🍻 Cheers Alex

This reminds me of learning this from tabs in a guitar magazine back in the 1980s. The shifting part is hard and I resorted to pull-offs too because it's so fast, even if it's supposed to be more staccato than legato. I think the tab had the last note as a bend to super high B (1/29), which is hard enough on a 24-fret, not to mention a 21-fret Telecaster like the one Eugene Martone was playing.

Brilliant as always Mr.H. I have just got up to the end of the arpeggios and now ready for the fast run to the end. It is so good to see this in a different light. I really want Vai to come out and do a lesson on the opening arpeggios on how exactly HE played it. Alex is one of the best guitarists out there - and I still don't like the way he transcribed this because it involves a lot of rolling (like the Dminor arpeggio) and you use the percussiveness of what Steve did.
@damianval46263 жыл бұрын
I'm obviously really late to the party on this one mate but I'm an avid watcher of all you do👍🏼my question is "why does this piece (to this day ) give so many guitarists so many problems 🤷don't Think I've heard anyone play it "JUST RIGHT" to this day.
@AlexHutchingsMusic3 жыл бұрын
No worries man, and thanks for checking out the vids.... Well I could talk in great length about this but let's just say it is a tricky piece for a variety of reasons and personally I believe the original could well have been a comp of a few takes together as it's very difficult to 'perform' it all the way through well.... Each section has difficulty and you could play it 100 times and 1 time you'd play the first bit perfectly then the middle bit suffer or visa versa... Now that also being said I'm sure if someone was really adamant they wanted to play it it IS certainly possible but it's a question of time and intent. I like the piece but was only prepared to spend a matter of days on it whilst other may invest more time into it.... HAhahah Just realised I've basically given you the long answer.. 😂🤣 but in short it's a matter of time, I don't think most people are willing to spend the time required to get this fully up to Performance Standard, but acceptable standard is good enough for me. Goodness I think this is my longest comment ever... And I'm sure I really answered your question either really 😂🤣😂 Anyway thanks for watching mate and all the best 👍🎸🙏
