I always thought the Entombed/dismember-sound was the ONLY thing that pedal can do. :D ..But after getting the Waza-version, I found out one can use it for anything! I really love it. My pedal is strange in that if I turn down the gain completely it "cleans out".. probably looses contact with the pot or something. Then it just gives the chainsaw-tone and feel to the next gain stage. That's very useful. Very Good video!

YES !!! That is THE sound! I now actually recall an old interview with Thomas Skogsberg, from sometime around the release of the second Entombed album, where he was talking about "an old BOSS pedal" that he liked to use a lot. Not only on guitars, but on other aspects of the mix as well. I later came to take for granted that he was talking about the legendary HM-2 (which we all know they DID use) , but I now recall that he actually mentioned the COLOR of this specific "old BOSS pedal" in the interview, saying it was "brandgul" - the Swedish word for the color orange. (Literally meaning "fire yellow".) I didn't understand it at the time, and I later forgot that part of the interview completely, but It all makes sense now. He was actually talking about the DS-1 !!!

If i remember correctly metal zone and hm-2 together was the "at the gates recepie" (it was released in 91 or 92 i think, but not sure) It's wonderful how two fully disgusting sounds (on their own) can creat a so cool sound in the mix.
@lowqualityguitarvideos Жыл бұрын
@@krisania96 I have heard the at the gates stuff was indeed a metal zone and hm-2 together. Possibly the HM2 boosting the metal zone.I think thatd make some sense bc the metal zone has a flexible EQ which can sort of 'mix' the tone before sending to the amp. And then I dont remember what the amp was, but the cab was a homemade 210 I believe.

Well well... as an old guy, who lived the golden era of death metal and enjoyed so much entombed, dismember and some others, after what i' ve seen heare, what i suspected all my life is confirmed: i was much more in mood with american bands, like Morbid Angel and, above all, english metal like Carcass, just because, in my noob ears (and now professional) the excess of bright was something anoyng, even compreensible musical phrases and tone. The adjustment presented heare, increasing low frequencies (even in mid ones), to me is the best way to listen this tone selection and in my opinion, those e(ye)ars would be so much superior in aesthetics - once the pourpose was so different of black metal, for instance, wich had no one compromising with musical business - than was. If the compromising with total violence or paradigm break was the goal as norwegian black metal, swedish death should appart from blues, hardcore and classical music, some genres embraced by entombed and dismember to complete their violent aesthethic, but, once denied this posture (because swedishs are soooo musical), excessive violence in a tone, who express tradicional music, always was more a problem to my eyes and ears than a new way of art. Anyway, nobody asks to me about it so... Well done E.V., to me, you fixed a long term musical problem of swedish death metal, contribuing for the genre with this tone selection. Great!

Have you ever thought about or tried to use HM-2 little bit in a way people use a Tubescreamer (and its clones)? Like just spicing (or kicking) up the sound of 5150, Marshall, Rectifier, etc.? I mean, the way you use it in the mix with 4 guitar tracks is great and so is the way In Flames did it back in the day on their albums, but what I have in mind is getting just a little bit of that swedish tone into a single guitar track/signal. Like maybe lower the level knob or the dist. knob (not getting them full on). Would that work, or is just nonsense? I don't own the HM-2 myself, so excuse my question ;)
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын

Actually a lot of modern swedish death bands roll back the gain knob on the Hm2 all the way and use the amp for the gain. This almost makes it a fuzz pedal but it does boost it a little bit with the level and eq, You can do this with the ds1 too i have tried both. This gives it a tighter sound while keeping the crushing tone

I checked out the video and I mention & show quite a few times that the HM-2 goes into the Peavey amp and the DS-1 into the Marshall amp and even had pics of the pedal that was on any given time and did a screen rec of the session where you can see everything so I’m not sure how to present it more clearly 😁.
