Euge is great. It takes me such a long time to do drums (I usually use BFD or Superior Drummer when I really want a lot of control of the drums). EZ Drummer and BFD Eco are for simpler drums that do not have to sound as real. First there is picking the samples. Then assigning them to places on the music staff (I usually put everything on a grand staff--bass and treble clef--for large drum sets). Then programming the drums beat by beat. Then recording guitars and bass (which I do while snapped to grid). Then I go back and vary the velocity by hand (especially on hi hats) and shift the drums slightly off grid to sound human. Maybe 1/32nd note. I am working on a cover of Metallica's "Dyers Eve" right now. It is a fairly short song but the drums are detailed. It is very, very, very time consuming for me to finish a song all by myself. Maybe up to a year working a few hours a day to do a 6-8 minute metal song with a lot of technical parts and changes? *Euge, do you like to use parallel compression/NYC compression?* This sounds like it makes punchier drums but some samples are very punchy out of the box (BFD's DW kicks need very little dialing in, for example).
