Heiser was either embraced or tolerated by Biblical scholars. His hole purpose of uncovering the Bible was to let the Bible speak for itself. That is why he called it the Naked Bible Podcast. He was not afraid of the hard to understand and weird passages in Scripture. His books opened up my eyes to a more fuller understanding of Scripture. I own several of his books. The one I read the most is Reversing Hermon.

I'm just grateful to his thoroughness of writing (bringing acadamia to the little people) and all the thoroughness of his documentation (you can look everything up, should you choose to). And he tried to teach nondemoninationally. I really feel he opened doors to a lot of the younger KZbin crowd and made it cool to understand spiritual ideas. Wes Huff comes to mind. Thank you for creating this video! Doreen took down the original video interview she had with Heiser. She claims it's a dangerous message and doesn't want to convey it. But, she will play snippets of it. Interesting 🤔 I remember that interview clearily and felt she had a hidden agenda. Heiser corrected her a few times about the council/angels. Heiser has many, many published papers and videos that refute what Doreen's argument is. Doreen cherry picked her guests to stack her agenda. Heiser has a book called, "Angels." She knows this. Dr. Heiser didn't choose the word "divine"; the translators of the ESV, NRSV, Tanakh, ISV, LEB, and six other that I could find chose use that word. I'm absolutely amazed at how difficult this is to understand for so many. For the rest of us, he taught us how to think well and let the text speak.

Personally, having watched many hours of Dr Heiser's content. I think the core of his content relates to an exhaustive examination of scripture using scholarly material, and making that content freely accessible to laymen. Everything else is bait to draw people into the scripture. We are all being very understanding to these individuals, and I'm not going to be any different, but I think what has been done by Doreen Virtue is actually quite dark, and unacceptable as it relates to the Spirit. I can't think of anything Dr Heiser has ever produced that warrants a public rebuke.

Gosh this upsets me. I've read Supernatural and I'm busy with Unseen Realm and it blows my mind. I've listened to a lot of his teaching presentations, especially about the unseen realm and reversing Mount Hermon. This man had absolutely no alterior motive, he just let the bible speak for itself and dedicated his life to teaching. I learned so much from him and he made me look at the world through a biblical lense. Those Doreen Virtue videos were so poorly argued and aggravating.They got so many things wrong and were so self assured in their errors. Nunnely was so stuck on the english word 'god' he wouldn't engage with the Hebrew word Elohim and how that nuances the text. He got so many things wrong like the etymology of the word "nephilim" to start. He clearly hadn't actually studied Heiser's work. However it wasn't just the misrepresentation, the poor argumentation, the strawmanning, it was the tone and timing of these videos. The intense, righteous indignation in Nunnely's tone was really hard to listen to, he sounds so angry and stressed out, the accusations of Dr. Heisers character and intentions were plain false, and the smug laughter and triumph Doreen and co displayed through it all was so cringe. Also, why did they wait until Heiser died if Doreen knew this so long? Sadly, it reflects poorly on the maturity of her character. Her disclaimer at the beginning about how great of a guy Heiser was just seemed like sugar coating. It was a profoundly immature and inarticulate attempt at a criticism without engaging in Heiser's actual arguments in an honest way. Profoundly disappointing.

Dr Heisers’ research and understanding of Hebrew grammar makes it perfectly clear to what he meant by the divine council. Indeed YHWH is an Elohim but not any of the Elohim are YHWH. As a linguist, I fully understand his explanation, anyone else refuting him on this clearly doesn’t have the understanding. This is why we NEED the Holy Sprit to help us understand the biblical meaning because already so much of scripture is lost in translation and man made doctrine.

When we hear the descriptive words, Divine Council, we must bear in mind that these beings are not gods, they are created beings that inhabit the heavenly realm. When we state they are in(part of) the divine council we must avoid thinking they are even permanent members of the divine council, I believe that Lucifer was once a member of the divine council but he overstepped the boundaries and tried to usurp God's authority - God removed him from the divine council and banished him. When a Judge appoints jurors for a trial he gives them his authority to decide whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty of the crime. this doesn't make the Jurors into Judges, their judgement is as it were 'in the gift of the Judge' and the judge can withdraw that authority if a juror breaks (for example) confidentiality and speaks to the press about the case.

@@richiejourney1840 We must be careful not to stray into pantheism - these beings are not God or even (as you suggest) Lower-case gods. It is impossible for us to fully grasp eternity, we either think of it as a static state, unchanging and unchangeable or we fall into the opposite viewpoint and think of eternity as linear, which throws up other difficulties. How can God be unchanging if heaven experiences linear (time)? Our finite minds find this sort of thing beyond comprehension. I believe the beings that are part of the divine council act as agents of God's authority but must always stay in submission to his authority. If (like Satan/Lucifer) they usurp God's authority they transgress (sin) and must be banished from God's kingdom. When angelic beings interact with humanity they are always clear that they are not allowed to accept worship. Jesus accepted worship from his disciples demonstrating that Jesus is God.

I’ve always known not to worship the lower Elohim-even though *they are called* and act like little created “gods”. Yet-I’m still monotheistic without worshiping other “gods” and at the resurrection will be an adopted “god”. It’s not my term…it’s Gods Word. This Word has been known for millennia’s. My pastor, whom I respect deeply, gave me a copy of heisers book 'the unseen realm' and I'm nearly finished w it. I can not express how amazing this book is to me. I found myself in awe at every page. It explains so many things I would of never put together and opened my eyes to the Bible bringing revelation after revelation. I can never read my Bible the same again, and that's a good thing. I fully respect Mr heiser. I accidentally saw Ms Doreen on a video about new age content and had no idea who she was. Shortly after watching it these videos popped up. The Lord was leading me to steer clear of her false theology clearly. My pastor delivered me of over 70 demons. Spent hrs w me. So when he gave me this book I knew it was going to be good but had no idea it would enlighten me as much as it did. Ty for this video. But just to clarify, Heiser's point is that elohim refers to divine* beings in a generic sense, and not exclusively to the one true God. They are "gods" in the sense that they were created above/before humans, but just because they can be called gods does not make them worthy of worship, or in any way on par with Yahweh. Yahweh is an elohim [pardon my sloppy grammar], but no other elohim is in the same category as Yahweh. The word 'divine' does not only apply to the supreme creator God of the Bible. We don't even use the word 'god' to only apply to the supreme Creator God of the Bible. This is why we use a little 'g' and a big 'G' to distinguish them. Dr. Wave is trying to claim authority over language and meaning. That is a false authority that he is claiming for himself and his theology that is not biblical, let alone linguistically legitimate. We know that people believe in different gods. The fact that there is disagreement about their existence and their power does not mean we can't refer to deities as deities, or divine beings as divine, or gods as gods. Dr. Wave is actually being childish by insisting on his definition being the only definition and can only be used in reference to the God of the Bible. If it did, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. I could say some things about the type of personality that commandeers language to control a following and alienate anyone who dissents. In the world of cults and brainwashing it is referred to as 'loading the language,' and 'cult jargon.' The confessions of the church are irrelevant to whether or not the Bible refers to a "divine council," since the purpose of church confessions is to enumerate the essentials necessary for salvation, and church rituals and hierarchy. The "divine council" paradigm plays no relevant role in salvation and church rituals. Bringing up church confessions as evidence against the divine council paradigm is like using the U.S. constitution to prove that traffic laws are unconstitutional because they aren't mentioned. These people are ridiculous in their logic.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for doing these rebuttal. She and her guests are being SO disingenuous !n their characterization of D:. Heiser and his work. So often, Heiser blatantly says, "I am saying "this".I am NOT saying "that""! They disregard it and purposely twist him out of context in order to try to find fault and discredit anything he's said. Even the people interviewed show, and practically admit, that they did NOT do enough research on him or his writings to quote things or summarize things correctly. She didn't even know the name of his book, "I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible" but tries to quote whats being stated in at (wrongly too). On top of it all, she flings her proverbial mud against the Heiser wall to see what sticks by her videos, and then TURNS THE COMMENTS OFF so no one can point out her misrepresentations. If you have any rebuttals, you have to message her privately, so she can cherry pick the ones she responds to, if any! Just SO one sided- seemingly arrogant and gravely disingenuous. It's like she's saying "Here is my opinion. Now, just take it as gospel and don't try to correct me or confuse me with the facts! Dr Heiser made the Bible make sense. Everything fell into place. It opened up everything for me. The people that criticize him are cowards. Why didn’t they invite him on and ask him, when he was alive? Dr Heiser had the desire to teach the layman, things that was only available to Scholars. He spent his time on earth doing just that! I have a thought about Doreen, a former Satanic priestess that garnered mula galore from sales of her books and tarot cards and paid to entertain at new age festivals. Part of the reason I lean towards the Council in v26 is the other plurals in Gen 3 and 11. If it was a reference to the Trinity why would it be relegated to just the prologue of Genesis? Of course, that question could be raised concerning the DC as well. But I feel there's good reason in the latter's case. The last "let us" statement is regarding Babel, where we learn in Deuteronomy Yahweh delegated authority to his heavenly council.

Title should read "Michael Heiser Was Wrong About the Divine Council and Opposed Jesus" Heiser was a blind guide. He was correct in God/Elohim capital "G" and gods/elohim lower case "g" but his application was all wrong. His book the unseen realm falls apart in the first few paragraphs. From Heiser's Chapter 1 Unseen Realm "One such moment in my own life-the catalyst behind this book-came on a Sunday morning in church while I was in graduate school. I was chatting with a friend who, like me, was working on a PhD in Hebrew studies, killing a few minutes before the service started. I don’t recall much of the conversation, though I’m sure it was something about Old Testament theology. But I’ll never forget how it ended. My friend handed me his Hebrew Bible, open to Psalm 82 He said simply, “Here, read that … look at it closely.” The first verse hit me like a bolt of lightning: Psalm 82:1 God stands in the divine assembly; he administers judgment in the midst of the gods I’ve indicated the Hebrew wording that caught my eye and put my heart in my throat. The word elohim occurs twice in this short verse. Other than the covenant name, Yahweh, it’s the most common word in the Old Testament for God. And the first use of the word in this verse worked fine. But since I knew my Hebrew grammar, I saw immediately that the second instance needed to be translated as plural. There it was, plain as day: The God of the Old Testament was part of an assembly-a pantheon-of other gods." >>>>Okay this is from Heiser’s book the “Unseen Realm” Chapter 1 in his opening of this book. Let’s look at the word “pantheon”, this one word changes everything about Heiser’s theory. Heiser’s view of pantheon of other gods is spiritual/non-human/angelic, what most people do not know is that the word pantheon has a dual meaning, so it is not just pantheon spiritual gods. Let’s look at dictionary definiton for the word “pantheon” 1) a group of particularly respected, famous, or important people: somewhat formal : a group of people who are famous or important "the pantheon of the all-time greats" example: a building in which the illustrious dead of a nation are buried or honoured. 2) all the gods of a people or religion collectively: the gods of a particular country or group of people "the deities of the Hindu pantheon" (especially in ancient Greece and Rome) a temple dedicated to all the gods. So with the definition can apply to both 1) people and 2)pagan gods. What Heiser did when it came to Psalm 82, he applied the pagan god (elohim) meaning to the pantheon, which is the second use of the word pantheon, this is where he error's from the first chapter in his book the unseen realm. What Heiser should have done is apply the “FIRST” meaning of the word pantheon to the gods/elohim in Psalm 82, which would be people. When a person applies the “FIRST” meaning Israel now fits in Psalm 82 as the gods/elohim. Israel is Jacob’s decendents made up of 12 tribes. Psalm 82 is totally about Israel (Jacob’s decendents). Israel is the “Chosen People” of God in that time period, Israel is important because Jesus Christ, the Messiah would come through that people group, Jesus came from the tribe of Judah, Judah is how we get the term “Jew” from. So the pantheon of gods/elohim would be Israel all of Israel, which would consist of people that are Judges, Rulers, Kings, Elders and even the common Israelite person.>>"The Chosen People" So when a person Pairs up Psalm 82 and John 10 Israel, Jacob's decendents/12 tribes makes more sense. I don't care what an internet dictionary says; that's not going to override the biblical use of a word. As to your question, I think you're alluding to John 10:35: "...35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came..." I think there are two options. One, contrary to what you just implied, the angels did have the law at one point just before giving it to humanity. This is that "law delivered by angels" thing you get a few times in the NT. It could be an allusion to that. Or, and this is Heiser's position, it's referencing the condemnation in Ps 82.6. "To whom the word of God came..." = the audience of Ps 82.6-7. They are literally the ones who the word of God came to. The Israelites or it's judges are never called 'gods.' The logic to get that is completely circular.

I have no serious issue with Heiser’s divine council concept. I’d name it differently, though. What bothers me is his refusal to concede internal dialogue within the Trinity when it’s a perfectly suitable interpretation and his slipperiness in on the nature of God (e.g. implying eternal energy/matter was mere organized by God). Merely calling YHWH “species unique” is insufficient.

This reminds me of a Christan radio call it, the lady was a new christian, or an uneducated one, and she met someone claiming the King James Version of the bible is best, but she was saying Jesus is King, not james, so you are a false teacher.
