Interesting to watch the development process. Just a thought, in the future owners manual it would be good to quote the recommended inch-pounds required to snug up each screw.

Any possibility of captive takedown pins for the upper and lower, or are you too worried about appearance laws, so you're playing it safe with all the receiver screws? Cheers.
@AustralianSportingAgencies11 ай бұрын
Nothing to do with appearance laws. The reason is that Jim and Rick believe that take down pins for the upper and lower have shitty tolerances. I know this will piss off every AR fan, but it does make sense, this design will last longer and will be more precise due to the screws.
@atomicsmith11 ай бұрын
Take down pins have been standard since the STG-44. The G3, MP5, FAL and SCAR have all used them. Have they had issues with reliability and tolerances? I think you might be inventing the round rotating thingies all over again…@@AustralianSportingAgencies
@AustralianSportingAgencies11 ай бұрын
@@atomicsmith they sure do work, did they have issue, don't know to be honest. Probably not. In the end it is up to the designer Jim and his believes and in this case I think it is a dividing opinion. Don't get me wrong, from a manufacturing perspective a pin is way easier. But I think what he is trying to achieve is to build a gun you buy once in your life and then you work her hard, forever. Time will tell but I hear what you are saying. Thanks for the feedback!
@sokhar6911 ай бұрын
It's interesting that they're worried about tolerances between the upper and lower. Many other firearms designs would suggest it's not an issue? I would have thought the main goal for tolerances is in the upper receiver, between the barrel, barrel extension, upper, bolt, and bolt carrier. I would have thought the lower with the safety, trigger, and hammer, could have some slight looseness? Takedown pins just make ease of cleaning so much simpler. But I'm no firearms designer. Just my 2 cents. Cheers.

Looks really good, I love how much you guys are putting out. But I’m just wondering why you guys didn’t go with captive pins for disassembly?
@AustralianSportingAgencies10 ай бұрын
Jim the gunsmith wants to ensure that the gun works for many years to come and we try to minimise expensive warranty returns as this drives the overall price of the rifle up. We have experience with pin systems and from a distributor perspective, the amount of warranty return we get with pinned systems is not worth the time saved to dissemble. I know everyone loves to take them apart in seconds, but when you suddenly loose a pin in the field or it wears out, you wised that this was screwed. We are however looking int a screwed pin system which hopefully meets both expectations.

Is the final version going to use captive pins or something similar so that these rifles can be serviced in the field without fear of losing parts?
@AustralianSportingAgenciesАй бұрын
No captive pins. It's a mantra of the designer. This gun is not for field stripping as you will not require it. Field stripping is only a thing if the gun has been designed in a way that requires it, meaning it is unreliable and requires fixing constantly. Time will tell if that philosophy is better or not 😀

Just seeing how tricky it is to separate upper and lower, is there a way to remove the bolt for transit without tearing down half the firearm?

Rather than pins, could the barrel be secured with a tapered thread, which would tighten the slot. Overall simplicity if manufacturing process can maintain tolerance.
@AustralianSportingAgencies10 ай бұрын
Sorry unsure if we are talking about the same thing, but we are not using pins anywhere on or in the rifle. Everything is set with screws. Does that answer your question?
@Wint91011 ай бұрын
would really rather captive takedown pins or the angled bolt in the receiver for easier disassembly tbh
@AustralianSportingAgencies11 ай бұрын
The reason is that Jim and Rick believe that take down pins for the upper and lower have shitty tolerances. I know this will piss off every AR fan, but it does make sense, this design will last longer and will be more precise due to the screws. Rick said in the video that the angled screw will potentially cause issue when we get to the 308 design, hence it would be better not to do it. That said, it may take 20 seconds longer or 5 if you use a drill. In the end, it is not a combat gun, so you should have the time to clean your gun without being shot at......hopefully!
@Wint91011 ай бұрын
@AustralianSportingAgencies yeah i get the take down pin thing, but not really because of being a AR fan but more a practical thing. I bought a taipan because i was sick of taking apart the 7615, only to have to do 5 bolts to take the taipan apart. Hopefully you guys think of a way to reduce the bolt count or angle the bolt near the pistol grip

@@Wint910 Thanks mate, I hear you. Leave it with me, maybe we can include a twisty take down tool to be able to reach the screw with ease.

So basically we are talking a seriously beefed up Armalite AR-18 on steroids that uses AR-15 barrels, purpose-built for accuracy for $2500 AUD/$1640 USD, right? Got some questions... Does it use standard AR-15 bolts or could bolts be modded, ordered, etc? I'm thinking this in 6.5 Grendel, .224 Valkyrie or any wildcat that uses avaliable AR bolts. Will this be imported into the US either as a full rifle or build kit (rifle minus barrel/bolt)?
@AustralianSportingAgencies11 ай бұрын
Great questions mate. 1. The Eureka is closer to the 1500 USD mark but yes in that area. 2. The bolt is a AR18 bolt or at least very similar. The Eureka can not take AR bolts or triggers as we can't import AR bolts without major headache. As our government hates ARs we stay away from it as it might cause restrictions in some of our states. Think of California vs Texas basically. 3. we have a 6.5 Creed on the roadmap. 4. The barrel is not compatible with an AR as the gas system is different, so dropping in a standard AR barrel will not work. 5. That all said, this is all due to our legislation, when we start importing into the US it is very likely that we make adjustments to those firearms so that they become more customised to the US market instead of exporting a product that is firmly made for Australians. Hope that answers your questions?
