I was looking up rhythm stuff with the keyword "eurhythmics" on the Internet because I am teaching street dance in Taiwan, but I didn't get any official musical training or education, so I am surprisingly thankful of finding this video. Trying to put together all the stuff I know and create a beginner-friendly system about street dancing is so hard because the street dance culture in Taiwan is mostly taught by oral expression, never has a person really wrote down or sort all the things dance teachers taught us. While frustrating how to teach beginners to dance and listen to music, I think this is a mind-blowing great approach, so again, I am super thankful for this upload, although this video is uploaded at 2012 and now its 2021, if there is any other knowledge or lectures you can provide, I am more then happy to pay for it and learn from you through the Internet, THANK YOU !

The whole time I was like this is silly...but the whole time I was wow this actually helps. Good job and nice to see different approaches.

Shannon - thank you so much for your kind words. I wish I had more opportunities to tape these kinds of lessons, but as of now I do not foresee many more in the near future. I would highly encourage you to look into some of the summer Dalcroze programs if you are interested!

If you don't mind, I would like to ask for your opinion. I am not sure which composition would be better - orchestra music or piano music?
@TheHiddenMana8 жыл бұрын
+Ulla Nanuk it depends on your objective. Piano is good for something simple you can play so that you can improvise. But orchestral music is great if the flexibility isn't necessary and you want to really focus on the students. I typically did piano when I just couldnt find the right music to suit the lesson.

I want to use some of these activities. I am not a good pianist. What is a good resource for accompaniment?
@TheHiddenMana5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly! Sorry for the late reply. I've often used recordings of orchestral music and just given commands while playing them. It's hard to get really specific with the type of movement that way (like with the Laban Effort Actions). I'm also not really a pianist... my main instrument is trumpet. I intentionally chose simple stuff I could do that I just needed a little practice with. Don't be afraid to take a leap of faith and try the piano! Dare to fail :)

Hey Jesse, great stuff! Where did you do your training? I'm working on my certificate at CMU currently. Not sure if I met you, maybe at the National Convention in Princeton last June?

sound equals movement

Their tendency is to act the descriptive instruction but they are not being the notes and sounds. I'm guessing that we are all not used to moving like this, and we are habituated to hardly move.

Thanks! One CD I would definitely recommend accompanies a great book on Eurhythmics: The Rhythm Inside by Stephen Moore and Julia Schnebly-Black. The CD contains a number of audio tracks with verbal commands modeled after Eurythmics games. If you'd like some more suggestions, my email is JesseLivingston1@gmail.com. I don't have enough characters here to go into more details.
