Seemed more like it was the best edit for a bad situation. The bits and pieces are small, and Bret kept "talking with his hands" while holding them so it looks like it was difficult to get and keep a close enough shot of the components so you could see what he was talking about as he waved them about. Plus the "script" transitioned very quickly between hands on demo segments which are best suited to a close up, and general information that is best served by the medium shot. Not insurmountable problems, but maybe not worth whatever considerations are necessary to re-shoot it with everyone's schedules and such.

************************** THE GREED OF MEN **************************** Why the hell does the new simple add-on to the existing solenoid cost so much? The people have bought more than one of these things as ALL of the previous revisions were weak/flawed. Now there is a $150 tag, just for a cap, to contain the proper pressure that should have always been contained. This product - which is plastic, a spring and small piece of metal - should not have been more than $40 as it is functionally required to work with an existing non-included solenoid. It is difficult to call someone passionate with a mark-up such as that.

@PatrickAguilar

Ceazar Carr it doesn't replace it, euro manufacturers use a diverter instead of a BOV because they use an air flow meter instead of a manifold pressure sensor

Ceazar Carr from what I was told and from what I saw on my mk4 jetta, basically the diverter valve is kind of like a blow off valve but like the name says, instead of getting rid of the extra boost it divertes it back into the intake. I might not be right but it would make some sense, to me at least.

Historically I have seen a lot of confusion, misconceptions, misinformation and many questions about waste gates, blow off valves and diverter valves. Hopefully the following helps. The Waste Gate is located in the hot side of the turbocharger and is responsible for setting and regulating the maximum boost pressure. It is a valve that opens and bypasses the hot exhaust gas around the turbocharger turbine and either reintroduces the exhaust gas into the exhaust tubing downstream of the turbocharger or releases it into the atmosphere. The Blow Off Valve (BOV) is located in the pressurized charge air tubing after the turbocharger compressor (cold side) and is for relieving boost pressure helping to mitigate damaging compressor surge when throttle is rapidly lifted or closed. The discharged charge air is usually released into the atmosphere or anywhere in the turbocharger intake tract on vehicles employing Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensors for engine fuel management strategies. The Diverter Valve (DV) is located in the pressurized charge air tubing after the turbocharger compressor (cold side) and is for relieving boost pressure helping to mitigate damaging compressor surge when throttle is rapidly lifted or closed. The discharged charge air is usually recirculated into the turbocharger intake tubing before the turbocharger inlet and after the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor on vehicles employing MAF sensors for engine fuel management strategies. Why recirculate the charge air? To preserve the correct air/fuel ratio (AFR) that has been calculated by the ECU/PCM using air mass measured by the MAF sensor. Releasing that already accounted for air mass into the atmosphere would result in a very fuel rich condition. Waste gate regulates max boost pressure. BOV helps mitigate high volume/pressure compressor surge on MAP applications. DV helps mitigate high volume/pressure compressor surge on MAF applications.

can you explain why you need an intercooler. if you live in a cold climate, does it still matter as much?
@mmorzan
@mmorzan 8 жыл бұрын
Matt McAlister I think it does matter because when you compress air it's temperature will always rise so you need intercooler to cool it down no matter of outside temperature
@andrewmcewan9145
@andrewmcewan9145 8 жыл бұрын
Matt McAlister it makes it more effective as the reason an inter cooler is used is to reduse the temperature of the intake air to get more o2 /cm^2 same thing as being lower down (sea level or lower ) you will make more power as the ambient air is more compressed ex (not real numbers) ambient air is at 1 bar flowes through turbo increase in pressure to 1.5 bar now compressing the air adds heat and the turbo adds heat so let's say +10 * c and the inter cooler is designed to compensate for that. so if your ambient is 10 *c lower then where the car was built you could run no intercooler and make the same power or run inter cooled and make more power as the air is more dense leaving the inter cooler. now in the real world it's a lot more complicated then that and long story short you still want to be inter cooled.
@nbgydf
@nbgydf 8 жыл бұрын
Matt McAlister doesn't matter what temperature it is, once the air has gone through a turbo it will be hotter than it was, that's why intercoolers are always a good idea.
@bwickham195
@bwickham195 8 жыл бұрын
Even in cold climates compressed air coming out of the turbocharger is always warmer than ambient (because you have the same amount of energy packed into a smaller space). Intercoolers are just a radiator for the compressed air, moving heat from the compressed air to the cooler ambient atmosphere. This makes the compressed air charge denser, which means you can cram more O2 into the cylinders and burn more fuel = more fun.

Also did the front resonator delete and rear muffler. I bought the car a year ago and just rebuilt it 5,000 miles ago for oil consumption myself. Add these bolt ons and tune after the rebuild. So glad I kept the car and put my time into it. Maybe a intercooler and k04 in the future but I've invested enough at this point. The gfb dv helped hold the extra boost from the tune and dp

go release that turbo charge and let the turbo and compressor work harder so I can release all it built up, it is hard for me to believe that it will actually go faster, also this valve lasts no problem but what about the tube, it is not designed to release and pressure build up as frequent as this thing in there. still, kids love them. kids, buy an instant pot, not GFB DV+ on your car.

I have one of these fitted to my MY11 Polo GTI twincharger. The engine is stock besides the DV+. I haven't dynoed it, but seat of the pants it feels like it holds more boost towards the top of the rev range (above 4000rpm), so I think the factory diverter was bleeding air. The car is DSG so I can't comment on improved throttle response when changing gears.

I have the GFB DV+ in my 1.4T multiair engine, and I am very happy with it. I read some forum posts that say that the forge valve (which is a direct replacement of the stock diverter valve) is better. They say the forge valve has zero leaks, whilst the GFB one, is better than the stock, but still has some minor leaks. Is that true? My opinion is that the forge one is way more complicated to install, with many more prone-to-fail parts. Brett can I please have your comments on this?

I installed one on my 2015 USDM Fiesta ST, I couldn't believe how flimsy and shitty the factory DV was! Its guts literally fell apart the moment I touched them with any tools to begin this install. Install was really straightforward, parts are very high quality as well as packaging and associated materials (instructions, etc). It really improved with turbo lag between shifts. I've been reading on some forums though, that some people are experiencing low boost "flutter" type noises. I would assume this is normal, as my stock ST with an open airbox had the same flutter type noise on the stock DV. I'm running a COBB CAI (closed airbox system) and man, is this thing quiet yet aggressive sounding, especially if you opted to install both springs (per included instructions)

i know the fiesta st suffers greatly from dumping all the boost pressure during shifts. you get back on it and theres a good quarter to a third of a second before it moves. its so slow 0 to 60 because its losing all that time between shifts from boost dump, and it takes 2 shifts to 60. if these internals do as you say, thats something that is needed on the fiesta st.

tocsa120ls the kit comes with an assister spring, if you fit the spring it reacts different (priority closed has to snap open) and can bring check light on, If you don't fit the spring (it's optional as stated in the fitting instructions) it acts like a standard valve, I've ran mine for 15,000 miles and 1 year, 0 problems just huge gains.

I have DV+ on my MINI and I have to say, its a lot better than stock. I had a boost leak and I realized it was the diaphragm that was broken. Brett, I was wondering why DV+ doesn't come with any spring stiffness options? That is always confusing to me. I looked at your competitor like Forge and their DV/BOV setup have many springs included for different pressure.

Ch28Kid On mine for the mk4 you can put different Lengths bolts in the top and I believe it is like using Stronger or weaker springs in the forge DV. Like setting pre load but I could be wrong.

just looked this up for my 2002 Audi a4 1.8.think I'll be getting this. I've noticed that I'll peak at 11psi, then bleed down to 7psi. not cool!
