Tested AEB in my Rio last week in an authentic situation unintentionally. Was driving about 40km/h in a queue when traffic light started to change red. Car in front of me immediately slammed brakes (too late, his/her car run through the lights before stopped). My car hit the brake automatically just before I pressed brake pedal.

They also sell this in the US, and the IIHS rated this good, their highest rating, for a 2018 model.

markmd9 No lane support system, minus one star. No autonomous braking system, minus another star. The car gets full five stars if it is equipped with all those expensive optional features.

Gary Stinten Yes they do come as safety options. The full options model is the car that has been rated full 5 stars safety ratings. The model that excluded the option only given 3 stars, due to lacking some important features. But performance wise it is still the same.

Has Kia Rio 2021 upgrade the aebs? Is comparable to that of Kia Sorento 2020?

The 2017 Rio was available with the following safety systems: Forward Collission-Avoidance System (FCA), Driver Attention Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Departure Warning. The 2020 facelift also added the following safety systems (optionally): Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Alert, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control (on the automatic), Lane Following Assist and Leading Vehicle Departure Alert.

safety pack selling optional if you buy it rio take 5 stars safety pack included lane assist and Autonomous control wheel long and short lamp automatic Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for cars and people in front car going to far etc.

Got to test out the autonomous emergency braking a few weeks ago. Was going 60km/h in the city and a car infront of me didnt use blinkers while turning and slammed the brakes. As I was about to push the brakes, the car had already depressed the brake pedal.

Euroncap is not realistic: Pole crash test is representing cars sliding to pole at 32 kmh,but why cars slide to pole if EuroNCAP had TC and ESP as mandatory? And this,the car is sliding on a sled so no drag on the wheels and how we can slide on 32 kmh if tires drag reduce speed much?

That's why it's simulated approximately at 32kmh to counter if you slide at 50khm it's easy for a car to still slide with all fancy gizmos. Road conditions and such

Warum sind immer die Fahrer-/Beifahrer-Seitenscheiben bei den Tests unten??? Diese Scheiben gelten als integrierte Sicherheits-Bestandteile eines Autos. Klar gäbe es Spiegelungen beim Fotografieren von aussen, aber hey, wir sind im 21. Jahrhundert......................... Auch finde ich, dass bei den Fahrzeugen bei einem heftigen Frontalcrash immer alle Airbags (Window etc.) ausgelöst werden müssen. Auch muss man endlich mal die Kopfstützen verbessern. Jeder Insasse erleidet heftigste Nackenverletzungen beim Zurückschleudern, weil der Kopf neben den Kopfstützen aufschlägt. Es gibt noch viel zu tun, sehr viel sogar!!!!!!!!!!

Este Rio 2018 esta genial en diseño y equipamiento, pero si bien cuenta con 6 bolsas de aire no me deja de sorprender que al momemto del impacto las bosas traseras no se inflan completamente, permitiendo incluso que la mano del Dummy trasero se escape del abitaculo....a mi juicio se ven como una simple sabana blanca que no cumplen para nada con la promesa de seguridad ofrecida para los ocupantes traseros. ¿Que opinan ustedes?

No le dieron 3 estrellas porque las bolsas son "malas" sino por el hecho de no tener lo que es el frenado autónomo y el asistente por si te sales del carril, con estas dos funciones obtiene las 5 estrellas como podrás ver en el inicio

En mi país los baratos son Changan C55 14.900 Chevrolet Sonic 13.995 Suzuki ciaz 12.100 Suzuki Swift 11.500 Chevrolet Aveo 9.500 Digamos que eso casi nadie lo compra en mi país. Lo que si compran es Toyota, Nissan,Kia, Hyundai.esa son las marcas más vendidas

Pete Thompson Exactly. To be honest, every single car that was made has no excuse to score anything other than 5 stars. Equipment that's needed for 5 stars is probably already well available by the time they made it a standard. Take AEB for example.

I imagine it would be down to cost. I would love all new cars to be as safe as we can possibly make them. The "Cheap" cars are cheap for a reason. Manufacturers are partly to blame, because it gives them a reason to segment their products i.e spending extra for the safety pack or an automatic braking system like one the Rio has. We already have the ability to make every new car sold today avoid almost all collisions. The Tesla has already proven to be much safe driving itself than a human driver. People at the bottom of the economic ladder would struggle even more buying a new car if thousand were to be added on top of the price for something most people don't care all that much about until they actually have a crash. I think if we want to be serious about this we could lobby our governments to provide a subsidy for new cars sold that have an agree upon level of safety features. The UK ran a scrappage scheme some years ago. The scheme provided a £2000 grant towards a new car when you scrapped your old car (cars over a certain age only). No matter what your car was worth, as long as it was over a certain age they would give you a £2000 grant towards a new car even if your car was only worth £200. It wouldn't cost the earth for people buying a new cars under £30k (People who are buying a car worth more would likely not be driving 10+ year old cars) with all the agreed upon safety features present, to be be given a grant towards a new car in exchange for scraping (removing the car from the road completely) their old vehicle, which has been owned, taxed, insured for at least a year. It's hard to find a party that wouldn't benefit from doing this.

Of course, they count pedestrian systems as well as other premium devices that not even your car might have to rate 5 stars. For occupants the rate is 5 stars but they also consider automatic break system, pedestrian crash, among other things.
