Euronymphing Djetinja Serbia Vol.2

Short but sweet euronymphing session on Djetinja river in Serbia. Low water conditions, inactive fish, so we had to use smal nymphs. Sizes 16 to 20 were the best catchers, even in faster water. Goal was to get them near bottom, which can be tough with size 20 so we used fine tippets 0.08mm thick....
Trout is dominant here, but its pretty common to get graylings over 45cm or even 50cm here... One more bonus for streamer fisherman is that this river holds some decent hucho, up to 15kg...

What would you say if i told you i had around 15 trouts in one tiny spot.... 😀 but it was almost dark so i am not sure i can edit that video to look nice... just too much noise and its too dark. Fish were all healthy....but that one is chubby one 😀😀 i love it too

​@@Oholisfliesandfishing I would not be surprised Vladimir - seen low water concentrate the trout into the deeper pools and runs. Fished a spring fed beaver pond once after the farmer had blown the beaver dam (the pond was flooding his fields). Looked like all the trout from the 10 acre pond were concentrated in the small area where the cold spring water was coming out of the ground - there was a solid mass of brook trout a meter thick and two meters in diameter milling around - hundreds of fish - and none were biting. By the next weekend the beavers had rebuilt the dam and the water level had risen up enough that the trout had dispersed into the flooded timber. Fishing was very difficult to thought we managed to pick up a few by dabbling dry flies in the small open water areas.

@@hankvana2149 i am happy we dont have so many beavers.... just a few.... and not in my area. But they dont build dams. Maybe cause rivers are large where they reside... but i agree, low water is the most difficult one to fish often

Glad u loved it, fish are all wild, no stocked fish here. Hence the average size is not so big. But they fight really good.

That's a great stretch of river. Reminds me of a river in Bulgaria, so feels like home :). Thanks for sharing!!! Quick question: do you have any tips for building the leader for this kind of fishing ? I assume you are not using a fly line here.

Thanks. I guess rivers are pretty much the same in our countries 😀😀🍺.. Before i was using leaders that i would taper... Try finding online lance egan's and devin olsen's formulas... Thats good for nymphs with 3.5 and 4mm beads.... Or when using two nymphs... I like to use very small nymphs... Size 18 very often... So i would thinner my leader down accordingly... Now my setup is very often just level mono 0.18.. Plus sighter and tippet. Hope this helps? Cheers Vladimir

Thanks Vladimir! Some of thw rivers are quite similar indeed indeed :-). Thanks, your suggestions and links are spot on. I was consifering tryinh a tapered leader, but for my nymph fishing on a chalk stream, with #16 and smaller flies, for grayling and trout it might be an overkill, especially using those formulas with Maxima 20 lbs at the butt section. I lile experimwnting so I will probably try some tapered formula, but perhaps starting at 0.20, then 0.18, then sighter and tippet. Cheers and many thanks for your advice!
