HI, which foam are you using for the second ant? It seems to have a much more open structure than regular EVA. Thanks in advance!
@Oholisfliesandfishing2 күн бұрын
Hi, i think its called evazote foam. It is more hollow. It even pops when squeezed with thread. Unfortunately, i cant tell you brand because i got this from a friend. And it was taken literally from package for underwear from Japan. Maybe semperfli has some foam that is similar. All others i tried are not near this one.

What about tying the body for an emerging sedge with kapok using a spiral for the contrast? I wonder if it would dive when pulled then slowly float up..😊
@Oholisfliesandfishing9 күн бұрын
It needs wings to pop up back to surface. I do that with F fly pretty often. I tried it with kapok wings and its also possible. I only did test it here with tropical fish around me...

Commented on comparadun video but coming to most recent to let you know how fantastic your videos are. Tying for 25 years, learned from VHS, and your instructional acumen is next level. I find that us Americans aren’t the best at teaching finer points for whatever reason. Amazed that you do it so well in your (presumably) 2nd language. Kudos.
@Oholisfliesandfishing9 күн бұрын
Thank you so much Seems we had similar journey. I started some 25years ago too. Without internet it was more difficult. I think Americans did leave significant impact on tying. Probably most important one. Europe is more detail oriented, hence most fashion brands are European i guess. But people like Doug Swisher, Gary La Fontaine and many others are amazing teachers i think. And yes, English is my second language. I am serbian. 😀😀

I’ve been tying for ~25 years and learned more from your 20min video than hours combined in others. Thank you. Subscribing. PS…I know it’s banal but imo always nice to list recipe in description. Good for newbies to be able to reference and for others who may just like the look of the hook you’re using or want to know exact thread in video.
@Oholisfliesandfishing9 күн бұрын
Thank you, i found this comment after your second one 😊. Listing materials is something people have been recommending, and in all honesty i am lazy to do it... And personally i was never following recipes so i never suggest it to others either. Its all about techniques involved. For example i use owl feathers often, but in US those would be illegal. I also use lot of materials i buy here in China that arent available elsewhere. What i am trying to remember is to show materials in first minute or so. That i can do. Its not extra step in editing videos . Thank you for all comments and subscription. Best Vladimir

My issue now is I’m looking for better flies each time. I look at some older flies and they look terrible….. thanks for the video.
@Oholisfliesandfishing13 күн бұрын
Marking the fly with marker is from the book. Tail and thorax are techniques i picked up from Wayne Luallen. Measuring thread and pasting it to the feather is just one of my ideas to help people be more consistent. However, both books Gordon wrote are amazing literatures. They teach so much more than just patterns.

Vladimir it’s so nice to see you enjoying the wonderful flies you tie. If I wasn’t on the other side of the planet, I’d be right next to you pursuing those fish! Fishing gin clear water it’s sometime best to just sit and wait 5-10 mins after you approach the area, it’s hard to be patient and wait, but the fish calm down and forget you walked up and don’t see you as a threat. You are a good fisherman I’m sure you know these tactics, just thought I’d mention for others.
@Oholisfliesandfishing19 күн бұрын
I was glad to finally have some proper fishing in a while. Same as you say, waiting is the key. Oftentimes i am hasty, cant wait. I regret it on my way home :) Some times i do wait, i do enjoy the reward after it :) I like to say to my friends i stant and pretend i am a tree :)
