Quill, there's absolutely no relation between your size and the amount of overextension you get. It's a simple as: 1% overextension for each point of uncored development, modified by administrative efficiency. You can see that the total amount of development you got from Granada is 27 (15 from Granada, 6 from Almeria, 6 from Gibraltar), so 27% overextension.
@TheDsterman
@TheDsterman 8 жыл бұрын
+marcelobk1000 He probably thought it was the same as in EU3, where you get the over extension modifier if you have less cored provinces than non-cored ones.

It's so interesting to see videos like these. I bought this game when it came out and gave up on it after about 20 hours since it was just too difficult. Inspired by this series I fired it up again, playing as Castile. Everything went fine for about 7 years then Aragon declared war, wiped out my entire army and fleet and stomped all over my territory. So I gave up and started again; this time I managed to ally with Portugal and Austria - thus avoiding an early declaration from Aragon and got to the point where I could try to boot the Moors out of Iberia. Unfortunately they had allied with Tunis and they wiped out my navy so I couldn't continue to prosecute the war and had only sufficient war score to claim 2 out of the three provinces. My religious strength wasn't high enough so I couldn't start converting the population and naturally they were threatening to rebel. I had therefore to keep my armies at full strength whilst trying to build up my navy. During this time I suffered some really crap events which wiped out my stability and my relations with the Papal states and lost me over 100 ducats. Just at the point where I had built up my navy again Aragon declared war; Austria decided to join in despite being my ally; Portugal refused to join me because it was at war with France. Aragon and Austria dumped over 40k troops on my territory, wiped out my army. Not seeing any way to recover from this I gave up once again. So just how do you guys that make these videos make these games look so easy?

Plenty of failures I am sure. This game really is hard. It takes a lot of tries and retries to finally get to the point where you can manage yourself well enough to survive and a little bit more. Even more attempts to get better at the game and actually make your country a very powerful one. Unless you are a natural genius at the game well that's a different story

Reading the above basically reminds me of my experience with this "game" and leads me to wonder...how does this = fun? Especially with no real victory conditions or goals to start with - weee! can go on and on, aimlessly! Hmmmm... (I KNOW I KNOW, you make your OWN goals as you go....shhh!!) ALL that being said, quill definitely makes it seem amazing and rewarding...

Great tutorial! You always have good reasonings to do something and you explain it splendidly. It makes me more aware that there is always reasons for everything I do. I always thought I'm a slow tempo player but knowing that there's so much more to learn makes me think I really need to go much slower to absorb and study every interface and features in the game. You did a great a job explaining that and whats more excellent is you explain as you play which makes me more attached to the gameplay. Great job!

Actually overextension doesn't really depend on how big you are. It's just 1% per development of the province before applying modifiers. So 100 uncored development is 100% overextension no matter if you are The Papal State or the Ottomans.

I bought this game a few years ago, when it went on sale. Never played it. (Well, I'd already owned EU3. Never played that, either.) Then the Conquest of Paradise DLC went on sale, so I bought that. _Still_ didn't play the game. Heh, heh. Finally, just recently, I decided to play it,... as the Iroquois in North America. I'm completely lost! But this tutorial has been a big help, even though the native societies in the Americas play somewhat differently. I only wish the fonts were bigger, because my eyes aren't that great. But yeah, I think I'm starting to figure it out. Thanks much!

Zimfab Hey, thanks! I'll check it out. Incidentally, playing the Iroquois has been a blast. I've had a great time. I didn't think I'd survive, but I've been lucky. I finally got westernized - and turned Catholic, which certainly caused a lot of problems - and I've got a big enough army to keep even European powers friendly. Nothing much has happened for awhile (it's the mid-1700's now), so I might start a new game. But this has been so much fun that it's going to be hard to find anything to match it, I think. Again, this tutorial has been great. It really helped.

So with unrest is it just advised to leave troops there and if they rebel smash them? I'm playing as Ottomans and am dealing with a few high percentage unrest provinces while trying to convert them since they were Orthodox before. I've cored everything and am working on conversion but it's taking forever with only one missionary. Their Autonomy is 75% already, would it be wise to just put it at 100% and let it cool off over time or just let them rebel and kill the rebel armies?

Any time I play Castille, I never vassalize Granada; only annexation. What would be the relative benefits of vassalization?
@Ecdyson
@Ecdyson 8 жыл бұрын
+Karhu Gaming You'd avoid the ADM cost of coring and, since Granada does not have increased coring cost, you could feed moroccan provinces to them, later force Morocco to give up its cores and integrate the land at no additional cost.
@KarhuGaming
@KarhuGaming 8 жыл бұрын
Ecdyson Ah. I see. Thanks for that. It sounds like its gaming the system somewhat -- as opposed to any attempt at mirroring historical practice -- but I can see the benefits.
@marcelobk1000
@marcelobk1000 8 жыл бұрын
+Karhu Gaming In this case, since you have claims on all their territory from the mission, the only benefit i see is using diplo instead of admin to get the cores. But vassalization is great when you don't have claims on all the territory for purposes of AE using conquest CB. Using this CB you get 75% AE on the territory you have claims, but 100% on everything else. If you vassalize, you get 75% of the AE of a annexation. It will act like you have claims on everything. It's a great way to reduce the AE you attain.
@danjal87nl
@danjal87nl 8 жыл бұрын
As a vassal they don't give overextention and if you integrate a vassal I do believe you don't have to core or something like that. So if you've been going heavy on the conquest path its occasionally better to spill out some vassals. Similarly if you're breaking up a larger country into smaller bits then you can create a vassal, subsequently slowly feed it bits in following wars and then integrate that vassal as a whole - which also ought to avoid some of the negative consequences of plain annex. I also believe vassalization affects aggressive expansion differently. Especially when you "free" a nation and make it your vassal. With the specific Granada/Castille situation you generally wouldn't run into that problem I'd imagine. But Quill is showing the general options for the mechanics. Not 'just' applied to a Castille game.

I'm searching for a game like CIV6 or EU4 which is not too hard to get into. I have never played something like this and I would love to try something out, but I want to start with something relatively easy to learn... Any recommendations? Or should I try CIV / EU? And which one? Thanks guys :)
@KaneDeitsch
@KaneDeitsch 7 жыл бұрын
Obviously it's up to you but, speaking from experience, if you want to start playing grand strategy games I would suggest actually playing Civilisation 5 with all its DLC (Gods & Kings and Brave New World). Like most recently released Civilisation games, vanilla Civilisation 6 is lacking mechanically in some areas as well as issues with AI and balancing. Civilisation is easily the most popular grand strategy series in terms of amount of players because of its accessibility (Civ 5 I don't think has left the Top 10-15 concurrent player list for Steam since its release or something like that). With regard to EU4, there are a whole throng of similar games built on the same Clausewitz engine and published by Paradox (Crusader Kings and Hearts of Iron to name a couple). If your criteria is to find a game that is easier to get into, I would personally lean towards Civilisation rather than the former (note: I am well aware that the notion of 'easier to get into' is in some ways subjective but simply from a mechanical standpoint EU4 is far more complex as shown by Quill's videos). A personal favourite of mine are the Total War games made by the Creative Assembly. While they certainly don't possess the same level of intricacy on the campaign map with systems such as trading in EU4, it's the real-time battles that add a whole level of addiction. Their games are set in a wide variety of periods and their most recent release (Total War: Warhammer) is not necessarily the best game to introduce yourself to the series - Total War: Rome 2 still regularly has thousands of people playing it and it may be more appealing to play if you are not a fan of Warhammer and the like. Hope this helps.

+Mike Fluffgren Considering Admin points are the most precious one, you have to be careful with which admin idea group you pick. On my games I can only pick 1 admin idea group, normally for my 2nd or 3rd slot. Economic is a cover all, never weak, solution. It's not a bad strategy, but another admin idea group can be even better, depending on your nation. As Brandenburg, for example (my most played nation, by far) I struggle between picking Religious or Administrative, but never have even considered Economic. Brandenburg is a conquest heavy game, where stability or cheaper mercs and cores are way more valuable than money or development. It matters on the nation you are playing, but Economic is never a wrong pick, it may just not be the best one.

Thank you for the advice. I will need to read on to the different ideas more and then make a better pick.
