Gujarat is the best trade node in India, you can route pretty much the entire subcontinent+ Malaysia there, and even without it there's plenty of value in there. Trade can be really valuable for you relatively early.

Do NOT be afraid of fire pips at the start of the game. I don't remember the exact numbers, but fire pips on a general are effectively worthless until about tech 7, when you unlock artillery (you must ofc also *field* artillery), or about tech 8, when infantry fire is sorta comparable to infantry shock (but make sure that your tech's *unit* pips are also good in fire damage). This is all especially true if the general's army has cavalry, because they'll do relatively no fire damage compared to the shock damage of their cav. Tech 13 is when fire damage becomes very relevant, and artillery becomes necessary for a good army composition.

Here I am, casually just under a 1000 hours into EU4, and only now discovering auto-diplomacy... I already had my annual 2 runs in the game, but dang, this is kindling the itch for an eastern run as well...

Quill, you should be shift clicking when you consolidate. Youre disbanding units that you then have to pay to retrain.
