Favours represent some kind of "moral obligation" between allies and are naturally accumulated over time between allies. The rate of favour accumulation depends on the relative strength between allies. At any rate, favour accumulation can be accelerated by sending over a diplomate to an ally in order to "curry favours". Once you have accumulated enough favours, your ally can reduce their moral obligation toward you in various ways: accepting to assist you in a war, giving you money, manpower, sailors, ... Provided you have accumulated enough favours and circumstances allow your ally to accept, there is no restriction on how often you can exchange favours for war participation. However, exchanging favours for money, manpower or sailors can be done only 1x every 10 years with one single ally (it can be a different ally 10 years later). Favours can also be exchanged for more "exotic" things, like placing an heir of your dynasty on their throne, etc... That costs more though, and it has other implications. Considering your current manpower situation, you would be inspired to exchange some of the favours you have accumulated with one of your allies for manpower. If you do not have enough favours yet, you can send a diplomate over to one of your allies to curry favours and increase the accumulation rate. It is however important to know that what you get for 10 favours depends on your ally's economy, manpower or sailor generation, and that varies from country to country. Since you can perform the exchange only 1x every 10 years, optimal is to go through your allies to see which one offers the most manpower for 10 favours before asking (same for money and sailors, of course). In this episode, Vijayanagar and Orissa proposed to give THEM money to reduce YOUR moral obligation (favours) toward them. The reason the numbers in the diplomatic feedback didn't change is that it displays the favours THEY owe YOU. For example, Vijayanagar owes you 14 favours (of which you could exchange 10 for manpower for example, if their circumstances allows for it). This number (the favours THEY owe YOU) is not affected by the deal since by sending money you reduced the favours YOU owe THEM, not the favours THEY owe YOU. I am a bit rusty with EU4, not quite sure where you can see how many favours your allies have on you. I seem to remember it being under the "diplomatic opinion" tab, but there's a fair chance I am wrong on this. Great series! Nice to see you playing EU4 again. Looking forward for more episodes!

I quick addendum: refusing to exchange favours for cash, manpower or sailors will only slightly agrieve your ally. Opinion will be reduced by only 10 if I am not mistaken, and the impact of your refusal will decay over time, to be completely forgotten after just a few years (3, I think?). In the current patch, there is hardly any circumstances where it makes sense for the player to accept exchanging favours for cash/manpower/sailors.

you owe your ai allies favors too. When they ask for money they are using their favors not giving you more. Love the series! Keep it up.

@@eXistenZ15 If you hover over the amount of favours they owe you it tells you how many you owe them at the bottom of the text box.

16:29 you're misunderstanding the Favours. It says how many they owe you, and in the tooltip, at the bottom, it says how many you owe them.

Loving this series, one thing EU IV demands is control over trade nodes, as many as possible as much as possible as fast as possible, which I do enjoy in a game.

The favours thing, they are trading favours you owe them for money, not building up favours they owe you... if that makes sense.

The chance to die, while leading an army, is no longer a thing for leaders or heirs. PDX patched it out with the "Austria" patch/dlc. And the heir was average, with a meh trait, so no big loss. The favours system is kinda garbage atm. PDX didn't bother implementing anyway that a player can see how many favours they owe to an ally, only the reverse is displayed in the diplo interface. One way to dodge the constant requests for money is to make sure u'r always dumping all cash into buildings. That way, even if the request comes in, spend all and you don't have enough to honor it, it doesn't count as denial, if you click the accept button. The better option would be to not ally any NPC derps and just create a massive vassal swarm. Each one has their own manpower pool and they provide a small increase to army limit, plus other NPC's focus their attacks on vassals during wars, rather than the overlord. Win-Win situation. Quill should have looked in his lands for a lvl1 trade centre, with a valuable commodity, and improved it for the institution after buying the lvl 2 trade centre and empowered the traders ( jains). It would have saved him a ton of points.

Hey Quill, I know you only just started this series (and I really missed your EU4 videos), but have you ever considered doing a series with the Anbennar Mod for EU4?

8:40 Gain 50 admin to then pay 75 admin to reduce inflation; how do you figure coming out ahead with that?
@witchfynder_finder
@witchfynder_finder Жыл бұрын
Paying 75 admin reduces inflation by 2.00, the event raises inflation by 0.50. This means that 1 point of admin will buy down roughly 0.0266 points of inflation (2.00/0.75=0.026666....) and that 50 points of admin will buy down roughly 1.3 points of inflation (0.026*50=1.3), meaning you are getting 0.8 points of inflation "for free" (2.0-1.3=0.8). It's a weird and kind of counter-intuitive way of looking at it, but mathematically speaking he is correct, you come out ahead on admin.
@lordnorrie

@@witchfynder_finder Or just multiply everything by 4. as you said 75 admin buys down 2 inflation, so if you get the event 4 times that means you got 2 inflation (4*0.5 =2) and 200 admin points (4*50) vs the 75 needed to get inflation back to 0 again. I think its an easier way of realizing that you come out ahead.

You should only have the minimum number of troops +1 sieging a fort when you aren't going to be attacked since the whole stack takes a percentage attrition each month. The smaller the stack, the less manpower you loose.
