Well, not until USA blew up the pipeline, but rather until EU had a fantastic idea to set price caps on the products they are buying. Of course Russia would stop supplying you. If you had a long-term contract, you can't just cap the prices, that's the seller's job. And if you didn't, Russia has no obligations to continue to supply you. Russia has Asia, and oil and gas are doing there incredibly well. If you remember, even unfriendly countries like SK, Japan and ROC went in on cheap Russian fuels

The West abuses their currency status of being the world's reserve currency. In Sri Lanka, if lacking money, they just die or suffer. But in the West, they simply print money or get loans, letting the future generation to pay. The investors are ok in giving loans, because the West's still dominant in the world. Not sure if enough is enough someday?

Now let's see how much incredible debt Russia and China have.. 🤡
@msealol
@msealol Жыл бұрын
You probably should look at the footnotes in relation to Singapore's debts: The external debt of US$1.766 trillion, quoted in the Wikipedia article cited by the reader, refers to Singapore's gross external debt. As the Wiki article explains, this is defined as the "total public and private debts owed to non-residents which are repayable in internationally acceptable currencies, goods, or services". Much of these gross external debts can be traced to the debt liabilities in Singapore's banking sector - a reflection of Singapore's stature as a major international financial centre. When a bank receives a deposit from a saver, this is recorded as a liability on its books as it is considered as a "loan" from the saver. When the bank lends out the money, this is recorded in its books as an "asset" because it has given a loan to a borrower. As a major financial centre, Singapore receives large inflow of capital from overseas and a substantial portion of this money is deposited with its banks. This is recorded as external liabilities or borrowings. That means that much of the so-called gross debts reflected in the Wiki article are, in fact, deposits kept in Singapore banks by overseas banks and depositors. This money is then recycled by the banks to lend to big overseas borrowers when they take up loans from Singapore-based lenders. Once that happens, it becomes part of Singapore's external assets. What is important to note that in the domestic loans market, Singapore banks are able to attract sufficient deposits from local depositors to support their lending to local companies and households. That ensures that these lenders do not have to resort to borrowing overseas in order to lend to resident borrowers. This will help to insulate Singapore from any financial fall-out if the world banking system suddenly faces a credit crunch, making it difficult for banks to borrow on the international financial markets to fund their borrowing needs. Taken as a whole, both the public and private sectors in Singapore are net creditors with a strong net asset position equivalent to around 200 per cent of its gross domestic products in its international investments. There have also been some international reports which list Singapore as having high levels of government debts. These may puzzle some readers, given the fact that the Government runs a balanced budget. Contacted by The Straits Times, a Ministry of Finance spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to assure you that the Singapore Government has a strong balance sheet that has assets well in excess of our liabilities. This means that taking into account our assets, we have no net debt." A Government article on the subject explains that Singapore does not borrow to spend. Instead, it invests all the proceeds which it has borrowed. The income which it earns from its investments is also more than sufficient to cover the debt servicing costs.

It is clear that for many years European countries have been increasing the number of people employed by government, increasing the number of politicians and increasing the levels of government. Consequently, to use the analogy of that famous book by George Orwel "Animal Farm" we now have too many pigs on the farm which is why debt is at levels of 145% of GDP. Internal employment of people for government paid jobs does not increase GDP as these jobs are paid out of taxes on productive work, but in fact this type of employment actually works heavily against it, whilst giving the illusion of low unemployment. But it is just an illusion of low unemployment. In UK for instance 70% of workers are funded by central of local government.

Seems insane to not demand public oversight of the EU and state politicians through any means necessary. Maybe there should be a mandatory lie detector interview every week with people of power to tackle corruption and uncover hidden agendas. It would be a drop in the bucket compared to the current spending and even if it stopped a very small percentage of corrupted spending it would be an investment.

The more debt a country has, the less willing World Bank is to provide them with more debt. Basically, it's like when you borrow some money from a neighbor - if you don't give the money back, they will stop letting you borrow their money P. S. The only reason USA manages to get away with their trillions of debt is dollar being an international reserve currency. I never quite understood why tbh, but it is what it is. If dedollarisation proves to be successful, USA is in for a fun ride
