Thanks so much, Paul! Quick question, how has the coronavirus affected you, from an economic standpoint? Since demand is so low now, are flights much easier to afford? Or are they more expensive?

@@Paul_Lucas , BTW, careful when referring to pisco sour as a "Peruvian" drink (or a "Chilean" one, for that matter). Chileans and Peruvians have a serious grudge due to Chile having won part of Peru's former territory in a war, and this is compounded by a heated controversy about which of them invented pisco and who makes the best one.

Keflavik Airport, the non-Schengen area (after the gift shop) to fly back to North America on Icelandair... they had about 5 flights leaving at the same time (JFK, Chicago, Denver, Calgary and Montreal) in the summer of 2016... this part of the terminal isn’t very big... it was stuffed with people and getting worse. So they opened up boarding for JFK early, just to have us wait in the area behind the gate (why this pretty much unused space was separated from the terminal is beyond me)... but we weren’t allowed to go up the stairs/elevator to access the jet bridge until someone walked over from the plane and invited us on board.

Although LAN and TAM merged into a single parent company 2011, they only started sharing branding in mid 2016. In fact, these two subsidiaries of LATAM Group are are still operating as two separate airlines, LATAM Chile (formerly LAN) and LATAM Brasil (formerly TAM). LATAM Group also has other subsidiaries LATAM Argentina/Colombia/Ecuador/Paraguay/Peru, which are all separate airlines operating under a single brand. This is similar to Avianca, which consists of Avianca Colombia (the parent) and Avianca Costa Rica, Ecuador/El Salvador/Guatemala/Nicaragua/Honduras/Peru.

Great vlog as always my friend! I have worked as a ground staff at SK (SAS) for 11 yrs, the reason for the pax in the finger is because of the blame game. The crew was not ready for the pax, but the staff started to board. If it was a delay the brass can see that boarding was started on time in acc with the SOP, so the crew will now get the blame since they were not ready to board. The only thing that is not OK here is in case of a fire. Who are in charge of the pax that are in the finger? The ground crew or the cabin crew?

Thanks Torgeir, never even thought about the "who's in control of the pax" thing...makes me dislike the practice even more!

I did a short stint as an intern for a ground handling company a couple of years ago and the reason we started boarding early was to save time. We were under a lot of pressure to get flights going on time and it does help sometimes. Most airlines have a small tolerance of about +- 2 mins off block but some dont and if you're the reason the aircraft is late you have to file a report and explain why. We've never had pax waiting in the brigde for more than 5 minutes though. Literally no reason to do this until the cabin is just about ready. Great videos as always mate!

I took this flight in both directions a few years ago and I loved the experience. Crew were really friendly and approachable. So good for such a nice price. So sad that LATAM are ending this fifth freedom route at the end of June 2020 and switching it to a nonstop cos it was certainly a fun quirky Tier Point Run (or in my case I used it to earn a chunk of Alaska Airlines miles)

I used to work for BA and we were made to ‘board’ passengers by the dispatcher before the aircraft was ready because there was a lot of pressure to board on time and avoid any delay going down to the dispatcher or customer services. It would go down to crew or cleaning. It’s all about reaching targets. Unfortunately.

I flew LatAm's 767-300ER from Lima to Los Angeles. It was an overnight flight, so not much meal service other than a crepe for breakfast, which was pretty good. No Personal TV's though, so that's a knock on this important route. I also wish they had provided bottled water at each seat, given that this is an overnight journey.

Paul, eight years ago Lan and Tam made "GRUPO AEREO LATAM" or in english "Latam air group" but they were still two different airlines. But it wasnt until 2017 that the two airlines dissapeared and they finally became "LATAM AIRLINES". Thats why Lan´s previous planes are still with the old livery. I hope this info was useful !

While LAN and TAM merged eight years ago, the rebranding to LATAM didn’t start until 2016 so there still are quite a few aircraft in the old liveries flying around.
@goytabr4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and the former TAM planes are even more delayed in the repainting process than the former LAN ones. In Brazil, many people still refer to the airline as TAM because it's hard not to when you're most likely to fly on a plane still branded as such.

The aircraft has the old LAN livery because Latam didn’t exist until 2016. In 2012, LAN and TAM merged, but didn’t become Latam until 2016, and the aircraft was delivered before the company was created.

My guess (probably wrong) is that the LAN livery is like the American predecessor airline liveries. E.g. they have a US Airlines livery plane in the American Airlines fleet.

Latam is a South America airline so I'm guessing this is a fifth freedom route ( Routes flown completely outside of an airline's home countries. ). Also Latam is now a Delta partner and soon will have combined frequent flyer programs. Not sure if Latam is joining Skyteam however.

If you mean some sort of "retro" promotional livery, no, it's not that. Both the former LAN from Chile and the former TAM from Brazil, which merged to form LATAM, have been very slow to repaint their planes. LATAM Brazil has been even slower than LATAM Chile, and in Brazil you're still far more likely to fly on a TAM-branded plane than on a LATAM-branded one. They certainly wanted to spread the investment, but I think they underestimated the brand damage, as almost everybody in Brazil still refers to the airline as "TAM" because of that.

Here in Brazil (and presumably Chile too) we still have a lot of planes without a Latam livery - they still "TAM" or "LAN". And this is even stranger for us in Brazil because TAM had its A330s replaced by some older 767s from LAN, and they still carry a TAM livery, most of times, instead of a proper Latam's. Anyway, TAM used to have a better service and better planes before the merging of the two companies - I really don't know if the same applies to LAN.
