Invasive European Green Crab are being found up and down the West Coast in larger numbers than ever. These crabs outcompete native species and destroy sensitive and ecologically important habitat.
Coastal Restoration Society, in partnership with BCSRIF (British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund), Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Ahousaht, Tla-o-qui-aht, and T'Sou-ke First Nations have launch a project to study industrial trapping as a way to mitigate the impacts of European Green Crab on the West Coast of Canada.

The official stance of DFO is that you should document and submit photos/locations when encountering them, but I wouldn't be surprised if EGC start popping up on menus in the future...

There's a green crab industry in the state of Maine. They are indeed edible. Softshell EGC is on menu's on the East Coast.

These have completely taken over the East Coast. It's sad to see we couldn't stop the spread westward. Companies are starting to commercialize green crab for consumption and they are tasty. Guys are selling soft shells in ME and this is the best approach we can take to put a dent on them. Also, if you fish for ground fish that eat crustaceans these are awesome bait. We use them for tautog fishing almost exclusively but they work for striped bass, porgy, sheepshead (east coast), black sea bass etc.

If only the first Nations would actually allow the trapping of this species in their own land. Maybe we could adress this problem in the west coast.

Even though they are bad for the environment, I can now get more crabs to eat because the red crabs I get are usually too small to eat

EGC are indeed good to eat however they are only really viable table fair when they are soft shell. Unfortunately when they are molting in any numbers is during their breading cycle during which they don't feed, or so I've been told. So trapping isn't going to work. That guy in Maine that is selling them has quite an elaborate grow out setup that he houses them in until they peal. Also, here on the east coast you cannot legally harvest them according to DFO.

Would large halibut and sea otters prey on the green crab?

Halibut typically are in deeper water. Not sure about sea otters they tend to eat more urchin then crab.

Here in Norway (native lands of E Green Crab), seagulls are natural predators of juvenille crabs, and COD fish and otters prey on their adult versions.
