I watched this video when it first came out and I was stunned by how much it covered. I was expecting a geological story about the world and also got the story of world civilization. Interesting tidbit-the Roman Empire was founded on a polytheistic religion. This is why they were so opposed to the monotheistic religions like Judaism and Christianity. Monotheism was considered to be rejecting the government and couldn’t be allowed. Despite the army trying very hard to eliminate christianity in the end a lot of the soldiers were converted and christianity was spread everywhere the Roman army went. Instead of eliminating it the army was the reason for the relatively fast spread of Christianity all over Europe. I enjoy watching your videos because it’s very interesting to see things that I know of from the point of view of someone else. Your view of american history is especially interesting, much like when I watch the oversimplified stories of history of shared events when they are viewed by english reviewers.

@@Netscape-kd6mg I would suggest you do literally any research into African history. You're speaking with a level of knowledge that makes me think you've never studied it formally, which would be fine if you weren't going around making authoritative statements about the topic.

@@CLKagmi23 Guilty as charged. i've never been a studious person per say. even my own countries's history i don't quite remember it despite getting a formal education about it so i guess you can imagine african history where asside of egypt, the phenicen and greek colonies, carthage, there's pretty much nothing between those and teh slave trade in my educationafter that it's basically colonial history and WW2 battles that happened there. that basically sums up my knowledge of history concerning teh african continent

@@Netscape-kd6mg I do appreciate that you're able to admit that. And really a big part of the problem is that the education system in America often focuses almost exclusively on European history. When you start studying history for yourself after school it's reeeal interesting what you find out they didn't teach you. It just bothers me too because these days there are some people who are aggressively dismissing non-European history in an active way as part of some weird ethnic nationalist agenda, so I'm glad you're not one of those.

Fatima, where you can go see Nossa Senhora de Fatima, is Arabic in origin. Moors had a huge influence on Portuguese history. Last time I visited family there I found out that even the yellow castles on the coat of arms on our flag represent castles that the Christians took from the Moors (Arabs). There used to be way more castles, but the government later decided there were too many and limited to the seven we see today. There's still Moorish castles in Portugal to this day, like the one in Sintra. Portuguese history has a lot of intersection with Arabic history.

I still remember my 7th grade unit on the protestant reformation where we watched a couple of videos which were TOTALLY paid for by the Catholic Church, casting Martin Luther as an evil man who wanted war and death and all the stuff that happened as a result of the reformation, though arguably, almost all of the was the fault of the Catholics in the first place, at least for the first couple hundred years. Okay, first hundred years. First fifty years? Several decades? At least one lifetime before the reformation got fully entrenched and started being able to do commit its own atrocities. (Being Lutheran myself, I had some problems with this unit, but being cripplingly shy at that age, I didn't say anything.)

One of my major problems with this version of history is that he makes it seem as if slavery was just something that happened in America and was just a black and white thing when slavery existed throughout the entire world including the natives of the America. The word slave comes from the slavs who were taken so much and for so long their name became synonymous with the practice. The Arab slave trade was even larger than the north Atlantic slave trade. The United states was the only country who ended the practice the way it did, the rest of the world it was ended by Britain over many many years. Slavery still existed in most of the world after US had ended it (and the world did not agree, except Britain and France until they were made to). Thomas Sowell has some good videos on facts most people dont know about Slavery you should check out.
@hatleyhoward719311 ай бұрын
America’s slave trade happened at a time where industrial advances were happening, and the slaves ended up powering the entire worlds economic growth and an argument can be made and heavily supported that it’s the reason America moved to be a super power. America is rich and a global power because of the commodification and forced labor of black people. It was all about timing with economic advances and it’s why there is such an emphasis on it. Even today, the super rich don’t like to think of their fortune as made by slave labor, they would rather consider themselves as entitled to it. But if we want to really be honest with ourselves, America is powerful because of the horrific slavery era. Specifics: America’s slave labor accounted for $42 trillion dollars of economic growth. All while they were be robbed of any generational wealth that is still being felt today. In summary, America’s history with slavery should be a main focus because it had more of an impact on the world’s economy than anyone else’s slavery eras. Also, I’m just going to attach this article that explains what’s problematic with Sowell’s theories and conclusions. The best quote is, “Slavery is not unique to America, true enough. But American slavery was unique, and it has warped the culture and politics of the nation in innumerable ways.” www.the-american-interest.com/2013/10/10/the-simple-falsehoods-of-race/
