Javelin has always been my personal favorite event since watching Stanford's Bud Held perform in the early 1950s or late 1940s. I may have watched him set the World Record or at least throw close to it.

Came down to techniques! Hudson was consistant! Some of the others were bigger & stronger looking. A bit off on your timing or mechanics was either short or foul!

Witek and Sietena are the most beautiful. Btw, why do these "world-class" athletes mostly fail to have a clean landing? Almost all the men during the Olympics had good landings and were within the designated area where the javelin would dig into the ground.

Javelin is also lighter, lighter javelin travels longer and farther. They had to ban the original javelin for men, because some dude literally threw it to 104m all the way to the other side, it carried significant risk of it landing on one of the spectators or runners if all others started catching up to him or going past him. The current OR and WR holders could easily cross 100m multiple times with the original javelin.

I just finished watching the history of the greatest Javelin throwing in the history of the Olympics. Jan Zelezny 98 meters record and they had to change the javelin because he would have passed the 100 meters. These women throw less than 1/2 of what he used to throw. I guess biology has a say in women's sports and that men are much stronger than women.😀😀😀
