Yeah. I think that whole process kind of stinks. I mean... if you're one of the top runners in the world... defending title holder... defending bronze / silver / gold medalist... and you get tripped or fall in a qualifying heat like that... you should get a pass or a 2nd chance or something. What if it was intentional? Tonya Harding style. Should Michael Jordan have to "qualify" for the Olympic team?

Mu was not in same form as last Olympics, would have been no certainty to make Paris final.

The PARIS OLYMPICS should be a (barn burner)Ms. Keely Hodgkins and Ms. Athing Mu are not the ONLY 800 meter runners on (PLANET EARTH) my GOD .....There are the (MORAA SISTERS) the older one (Mary)won the last world championships last year in Budapest ,Hungary with (Keely) getting silver and (Ms. Mu )getting bronze.
@TheEulerID5 ай бұрын
True, but Mary Moraa was comprehensively beaten by Keely Hodgkinson in Eugene this year. Incidentally, watch out for Phoebe Gill, who aged just 17 years and 3 weeks, ran a 1:57.86 in May 2024, almost 2 seconds inside the European U-18 record. Since then she has won the UK National 800m in a 1:58, outpacing Jemma Reekie, the 4th placed runner in the Tokyo Olympics (Keely was in the 400m). A bit of a wild card given her youth, but at that age improvements can come on in leaps and bounds. She's also an excellent 1500 metre runner and has a lot of strength.
@piffpete4205 ай бұрын
It’s unfortunate Athing Mu won’t be competing. But she wouldn’t have beaten Keely. Her recent health struggles probably would’ve put her chances of even making the finals in the Olympics questionable. Let alone a podium spot.

Keely was sick in this race and up until the last minute had not decide to run. Every other 800 metres this year she has won comfortably running away and see beat Mary Moraa in Eugene in a 1:55 running away from the field in the final straight. As for times, then the UK also has Phoebe Gill in the Olympics as well who, this year, aged 17 years and 3 weeks ran a 1:57.86, just half a second behind the time of Nia Akins in the US trials. Keep an eye on her, as she is very strong and simply ran away from Jemma Reekie (4th at the last Olympics).
