Fact about Portugal, the guy that written the song is José Cid, is famous in Portugal, he had reprensented Portugal in 1980 getting a good 7th place with a "iconic" song :) 🇵🇹

The Swedish song "Kärleken är" is a tribute to Princess Diana who passed away 9 months ago. The first year of the televote was actually 1997. That year the UK, Germany, France and Sweden had televoting. 98 was the first year of mass televoting with 22 of the 25 countries having televoting. Also yes Koit Toome came back in 2017 with Laura

Sweden's song is about Princess Di - it's translate title is Love is. I think the singer might be related to the guy who came 3rd for Sweden in 95 - he's Jan Johnson, she's Jill Johnson.

Dana International was the contest's first openly transgender participant and became the contest's first openly LGBTQ+ winning artist, however her participation for Israel was controversial among sections of Israeli society and resulted in opposition and death threats against her in the run-up to the contest. It was the first contest in which the results were determined predominantly through televoting, and would become the last contest in which all participants were required to perform in the language of their country and the last to feature an orchestra and live music accompaniment for the competing entries. Uk got their last and 15th second and best result until 2022. Netherlands obtained its best placing since its most recent victory in 1975 by finishing in fourth place. Greece(12p from 🇨🇾)Slovakia (8p from 🇭🇷) and Romania (6p from 🇮🇱) got points from only one country and were saved from stuck with 0 point like unlucky Switzerland.

1998 is my fave Eurovision ever followed by 1995 and 1996! You won't believe how excited I am for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool because it's only 90 minutes from me in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Are you both going guys? I'm not spending hundreds on a ticket so I'll be in Euro Village for the final at the side of the Mersey and then a train back to Barnsley the day after! ❤️

This year was quite good, I was only 8 years old back then and didn't get into Eurovision Untill 2000, but I've watched it online, and I really like that year. My favorites are Sweden, UK(always thought it reminded me a bit of Toni Braxton), Israel, Croatia, Norway, France and Switzerland.

I think this is the second year of the Barbara Dex award as Guido Horn won it for Germany. I agree completely about Hemel en Arade being one of the best songs the Netherlands has ever sent. Edsilla and Imanni got on like a house on fire and Edsilla named her daughter after Imanni. Imanni is indeed gorgeous as is Dana both of them look amazing.

Croatian commentator said for Dana that she went to hospital as a man and woke up as a woman. But no media mentioned that she was a tran after Eurovision. Croatia had great songs in 1998/99 with,4th place but after that everything was very bad.
