No, that song was shit. Never liked it when it first came out, never will. I mean... the lead singer couldn't even sing, those costumes that they wear probably cost less than 100 euros to make, they looked so cheap back then, ever more so now. Only reason they won because of their "shock" value, they weren't really musicians, rather performers, their appearance won, not their "music".

metal: >enters eurovision once >breaks all point records and wins >hailed as best eurovision winners of all time >boosted eurovision's popularity more than anyone before or after them >2 years after their victory, a guinness world record was set when a record number of people sang this song in karaoke in helsinki >I think the only act that year that refused to be on playback one hell of a track record x) Lordi are great, they have this horror movie/monster gimmick that made them stand out even more and most of their songs are actually super catchy, like "blood red sandman". They were super fresh in the contest, almost everyone in eurovision just does the formulaic 3-chord songs with mediocre vocals at best and you see noone showcase any sort of musical skill or anything. Not that lordi are a band with complex music or whatnot, but they won because they were such a breath of fresh air in the sea of plastic, run of the mill formulaic pop that eurovision usually is...

Absolutely epic! Metal gets it done. And to think Finland's conservatives didn't finance the band and fans and general population got the funds for Lordi production in Eurovision. Aah, Finland how I adore you! The true outlaws of Eurovision. Since its debute in ESC (1961), Finland has managed to finish last an admirable 10 times and can proudly put three 0 point finishes to its crest. No need to feel bad about it though as even the earliest losing entries are still fondly performed at every local Finnish karaoke bar. Before the semi-finals were introduced in 2003 Finland had to sit out from the contest every other year from 1995 to 2003 due to bad placement the previous year. This hasn't changed much as Finland has only made it to the finals 7/14 times since then. Finland has sent a colourful variety of entries throughout the years and always seem to miss the mark at finding the winning formula. So it is very fitting that it is one of the 'up yours'- entries that has given Finland its only victory in 2006 (we have the brief few years of only televoting to thank for that one). Apart from 2006, Finland has not been able to reach top 10 since 1989. The stats from previous years are a thing of beauty as they sit well with both our self-pity and overconfidence :D The Finnish 'Sisu' (determination regardless of cost/perseverance) shines through even in our ESC history :')

Mirai Bai 100% yes... Lordi was the ultimate 'up yours, ESC' in history. Hell, even the production crew in Athens denied Lordi the pyrotechnics they wanted cause they were too expensive... so they CROWDFUNDED the money xD not only was it historic as the highest scoring winner at the time (until Alexander Rybak in 2009), the first country to win both the semi-finals AND finals, at the time the longest run of no-wins in ESC history (taken over by Portugal), and finally the first ever rock/metal song to win the Eurovision... which if you watch previous shows and then subsequent shows you can tell this opened the way for countries to send in more daring choices and not just pop. We might not be the most consistent, and since the loss in 2009 think now the committees have swung more towards the mainstream again... but honestly, Finland should do what we do best. Angry rock/metal that's all about FU to authority. Who cares if we win or even get into the finals, let's embrace our thing about being the outlaws xD
@Aurinkohirvi6 жыл бұрын
Yeah we are the weird kid of the neighborhood. But I think it's honest to be yourself and go as you are, even though others wouldn't necessarily get you. And too often we have tried them lame pop-songs that have no heart and substance in them at all. Just commercial crap. Rather lose with zero points being real than get some points from fakeness.

I watched Eurovision religiously (no pun intended) when I was younger, back when my home country of Sweden only had two tv-channels and there was basically no other choice. I stopped watching some time in late 80's early 90's, and just ignored it for over 15 years. But 2006 I was glued to the tv, and saw the whole show, JUST for this performance! They (Lordi) were perfectly placed too, right in the middle, with 16 acts preceeding them and 16 acts following them. Their show felt like this awesome rock concert that just happened inbetween the real competition, and Finlands legendary amount of epic losses made this contribution feel like a big 'Fuck this schlager shit! For once Finland is gonna do what Finland does best; METAL!' I have never voted for any song before 2006, and I have never voted for any song since 2006... But that year I spent the cost of one text message vote - for our dear rival neighbouring country, Finland! Sure, his singing voice leaves a lot to be desired, but I think the record breaking number of 12's from a LOT of countries speaks for itself. This - is - awesome!

One thing is for sure, of all the winner videos you have watched lately, you will NOT forget about this one.

This is different. I fed up boring pop songs and performances. This is the real music and the real winner. Greetings from Turkey❤️❤️🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Lordi is the least horrifying band in the world compared to many others. His reaction is priceless... xD

I from Finland and we do not seem to like that or not/that looking for real.😅 If you look at the Eurovision 2018 Saara Aalto (who represented Finlands this year) does not look like that.😂 Lordi is a really nice guy and if you look at pictures from Google, he looks like no fancy clothes from a very basic finnish❤

Some of the best metal comes from Finland!! It was totally different from anything that year. In a country that should not have won in the first place.
