Did I find the satirical entry of the year? In this video we react to Ireland’s entry for Eurovision 2008, “Irelande Douze Pointe” by Dustin the Turkey!

Unpopular opinion: this is one of my favorite Irish entries of all time. Nothing short of legendary.

It's mine as well, right after the voice, and ahead of Johnny Logan

You need to know Dustin is super famous in Ireland, he's a child TV presenter and he's also very very rude, the equivalent to you would be sending kermit the frog, he wasn't just invented for the contest, he's a perfectly legit person. He won the televote that year, they've never put the selection to the televote ever again 🤣 Yet he's the best entry we've had in the 21st century, and the lyrics are completely on point. Eurovision was violently corrupted back then. Nb: Estonia sent us 7 points, bless their great sense of humour.

Dustin somehow has the most no. 1 singles of any Irish solo artist so is very much deserving of being remembered!😂 This song is not one of them and a bit shite, but deliberately so😆 Dustin loves winding people up above all else. His twitter is great too😂

2008 has many joke entries. And I found them all good and funny. Spain was the best in this category don't forget to check it out. Also Belgium, Latvia and Croatia 😅

Basically Ireland was tired of the voting system and so mocked the entire event as it's very predictable what countries will vote for each other and it was listed in the song. Also, Ireland was in a financial crisis at the time so couldn't afford to hold the event if they won as it costs millions to do so they sent a contestant they knew wouldn't win

I didn't know where to ask you to react to Ireland 1970 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIScXqhmhLOWsJY), but this video is perfect... from one of the weirdest Irish songs on ESC to one of the best Irish songs on ESC.

Basically we sent this because the Irish were sick of the way Eurovision had turned into a lot of maybe not so great quality songs and we were fed up of not doing well so we sent a joke act insulting Europe and that’s why now we no longer do well😂😩😩😩

You know what though, there are a number of Irish entries that I would argue should have/could have qualified.

People either love or loathe Eurovision, there's not much middle ground... Unfortunately those who deride it have entries like this to illustrate their point. I think that's why the hardcore fans in the arena booed and, conversely, also why it didn't come last. This will have got votes from the section of viewers who tune in to make fun of it all. Also, the title was misspelt. The correct French spelling would be Irlande Douze Points. Hmm... that's just lazy and perhaps a tad disrespectful too (unless it was deliberate attempt at being satirical, who knows??). In case you hadn't guessed Jordan, I didn't care for this one much :) Take care

Very much a satirical entry. The voting system was corrupt and has since changed. Ireland does not loathe Eurovision it does have respect, Ireland has won Eurovision the most times and at the time could not afford to host again. The lyrics in the song state countries that vote for each other tactically.. it was a movement of an entry and my favourite entry. Dustin is very famous in Ireland and is known for being rude. He won a competition to be chosen to represent, that’s how valid he was and still is to this day, he actually has many albums which when I would go to Ireland as a kid my granny gave me to listen. And if you think he’s bad check out JEDWARD they represented Ireland for 2 years and then look at the UK even we / they (identity crisis) used scootch one year

@@elusiveenigma2114 Aine, I'm British but cannot defend the UK's disrespect for the contest either. Ireland may not have wanted to win, I totally get that. Yes, it was satirical, but humour doesn't always translate across a pan-European mentality. Eastern European countries (for the most part) take this far more seriously than we do in the West and Dustin, as popular as he may have been in Ireland just didn't translate across a wider audience...

@@thingybob4375 on some level it did translate to Europe I mean the jury came back to stop the tactical voting that’s “sung” about .... and on the British side don’t put the country down in regards to taking the piss out of Eurovision .... I’m Irish but im born and bred here and I’ve always been into Eurovision and as a kid I never knew anyone that had these Eurovision parties etc but go to uni and suddenly it’s a common thing - I’ve been to a few now 😅 not even embarrassed about it tbh
