As a spanish Eurofan who helped to send a joke entry in 2008, I have to say: Do not be ashamed of Dustin. Aprreciate the fact of sending one of the best protest jokes entries, tied with Iceland 2006 and Montenegro 2012. In fact, Dustin is not your worst result anymore. At least you have win in "recent years". We do not win since 1969

I just discovered Eurovision and that delightful entry a few months ago. I couldn't stop laughing because it seemed like a very Irish 'screw you'. Your american cousins would have done something like that but less subtle. They would have sent several drunk southies (south boston) screaming insults and obsenties over a dance beat, they would have gotten into a fight with the stage hands who tried to pull them away and vomited all over the stage. It should not be forgotten that in early 2000s, Eastern countries started to dominate Eurovision. After 1998, 7 out of 10 next editions were hosted in Israel, Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, Ukraine, Greece and Serbia; and Russia won in 2008. This was also due to the fact that Eastern countries were voting each other in the contest. That is why at the end of Dustin the Turkey's song, he calls all Eastern countries to vote for him. Result? Getting 22 points. 7 from Estonia; 4 from Belgium; 3 from Israel; 2 each from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Finland; and 1 each from Montenegro, Norway, the Netherlands and Spain.

A good way to describe it is that Dustin's Eurovision performance was a joke that didn't land, despite how funny it was (PKMX thinks it was a dark point in Irish history, but Matt Murphy thinks it's one of the funniest things Ireland has ever done). It is hilarious how it didn't work out at all, and even though it completely backfired I find the whole thing so intriguing for some reason

What if I told you that the song is actually a criticism on the vote block? Basically he mentions countries like France, UK, Austria, etc (who were always voting in the Irish acts no matter how shit they were) and later on he mentions the Eastern Europe countries (who pretty much never votes in the Irish acts due to the fact that Ireland has the biggest number of wins) saying things like "Listen Bulgaria we love you, Belarus, Georgia, Montenegro, Moldova, Albania, Croatia, Russia, Ukraine and Macedonia too" .
