Remember 2019 in Tel Aviv? The whole arena was literally the size of a sport gymnasium. The stage was even smaller. They worked with camera lenses and visual tricks to make it look bigger on tv.

I've actually always wondered how these would look like in the audience. I can really see why San Marino was chosen to perform last. They were like an encore! Iceland's song actually worked well for the screen-only performance. It's got that Daft Punk-adjacent vibe. France made the event look intimate/warm. You guys (along with another blogger who I follow) have unknowingly got me through a truly rough year and made me forget the hardships for a minute. For that I thank you. All this eurovision coverage gave me something to keep my mind occupied. My question for you guys is, do you think the points system needs fixing? Because four lots of 0 points is incredibly bad and puts the 0 scoring countries under a negative spotlight on the night with the press and public sneering at the results. My thoughts are that the very nature of Eurovision was to uplift and unite all the countries post war. The uplifting and celebratory nature has continued throughout the decades with recent slogans like "Building bridges", "we are one", "come together" and "celebrate diversity", but in recent years 'nul points' has taken on a life of its own and often humiliates the singer who ends up with zero points. I know most people will say "well someone's gotta come last". Well, yes...they do. But to have to come last with 'Nul Points' is a double whammy of embarrassments to deal with and the press make it worse when they make a meal out of it bringing further shame on the performers. Personally I think that the points system needs overhauling to end the dreaded Nil Points situation. There are 26 countries present in the finals, so each country should get points. When a country votes, they should give 1 - 23 for the rest of the countries. The top three could still be called out the way they are now respectively, but with 24, 25 and 26 points instead of 8, 10 and 12. At the moment, only the top 10 countries are celebrated and rewarded with points. It almost negates the hard work put in by the likes of Germany, The UK, Spain and the Netherlands, and many of the other countries who don't get the same focus in the finale for not making the top 10. By the current standards, a song could rank 11th with all the voting countries and come out with zero which puts them at the very bottom. This isnt a fair representation of where the song truly placed as another song that could have ranked 26th with almost all the countries, but may have just snuck in 10th with one country meaning that it scores a point and ends up above the song that managed 11th across the board. What do you guys think? Time for a change?

So many songs were left behind. Such as Azerbaijan 🇦🇿, Bulgaria 🇧🇬, Cyprus 🇨🇾 or even San Marino 🇸🇲 not placed in anywhere good. It still makes me sad till today that voting wasn’t honest enough to vote for the good song as this is Song contest.

I think there were just too many up-tempo glitter girl pop songs (Greece, Azerbaijan, Serbia, Cyprus, San Marino, Malta and Moldova) There are many many people who love this style, but nobody's going to vote for all 7 of them. They're going to vote for the 1 or 2 they like the most, so these songs got in each other's way. If there had been 7 rock songs, Italy and Finland would have had to share their points with the 5 others as well. San Marino and Azerbaijan not doing better does surprise me still. Azerbaijan really is my favourite country in Eurovision.

@@Lumosz When Maneskin won, some french journalists started saying Damiano was sniffing cocaine during the show; the news spread very fast and many people started believing it. Damiano offered to do the drug test and resulted negative... It was obvious they said it because they lost after Italy (it is well known these two countries don't get a long very well, but this was low and pathetic...). P.S. obviously I'm not talking about every single french people, but many accused Italy so I generalize in this case

I'm not a fan of Serbia or San Marino but you gain a much better appreciation of the way their performers used the stage here. Whilst Greece, Switzerland's and to an extent Malta's staging looks awful although Destiny's still a queen. Ukraine's staging looks even better in person so to speak. France's is even more minimal but then again even as a small black clad figure on a huge stage she's slaying. Finland and Italy are still lightning in a bottle.

i just don't know why most of the audience didn't sing along to the songs (for non-English songs I understand, but for English songs with catchy hooks? really?). it's not as loud as I expect. even the crowd who shouted Finland in the semi 2 announcement and applauded James' 0 points, they are much much louder.
