This year the top 4 could not have been more different so really worth checking out. The crowd favourite on th enight was Finland and they also won the public vote. The voting is split into two halves 50% is decided by a jury panel of musical professionals from each country who vote for their top ten and those ten are awarded points. Loreen was well ahead after the jury vote. The public vote then put Finland ahead leaving Loreen to need 187 public votes. She got well over 200 so she took the crown. it is her second win as she took the title in 2012 for Sweden. Many think her song then was better than Tattoo. The Swedish group ABBA were the first band to ever win the contest and next year is the 50th anniversary of that win. Some are heavily hinting Loreens win was fixed so Sweden could host the contest next year. But some vote rigging was attempted a couple of years ago and those countries were called out and their vote disqualified so seriously she won fair and square.

I think you said it perfectly: "It was spectacular, it's just not what I expected." I personally think that the more open you are to music, the better time you have with something as magnificent as Eurovision. @@swedishmetalbear Not far behind??!!! Are you delusional? There was a huge gap because Finland was the landslide winner. Loreen got even less 10 points than Käärijä. CCC got 376 points if I remember correctly and Tattoo somewhere around 220-240. One of the worst public vote scores for a winner ever. Why not admit the facts and try to turn them around?

4:48 "I thought it was like bands and shit. I thought it was heavy metal bands and rock." - Naah! Eurovision is definitely not that. It often has something for everyone but that also means that you have to go through lots of stuff that may be for "somebody else" before you find something for you. The last rock band to win was Lordi in 2006 with "Hard Rock Hallelujah" - performed in costume with monster masks and animatronic demon wings. It has to be seen to be believed. Eurovision has pretty much no bounds when it comes to music - and often features a wide mix of rock, pop, ballads, power ballads, cultural, electronic and more than the occasional "WTF?!" act. The main rules are entrants must be at least 16. Entries have to be chosen by their respective nation states (whether by an official local panel or by a local heat judged by the public). Songs last max 3 mins. No more than 6 performers on the stage and all performances must be live singing/playing (though they are allowed to use recorded backing tracks too, if required). There are also about 45 entries, with 40 going through a semi-finals stage and the current winning nation and the "Big 5" (countries who give the biggest funding to the contest) automatically qualifying for the final (though that doesn't necessarily give them a better chance of winning). Countries taking part come from Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and also Asia - and we've also had Australia for the past 8 years (thiough I don't think they're taking part next year as their current contract has just expired). Voting is by a selection of local judging and by an audience televote - with 50% of the points allocated to each. It throws a rather random element to the voting. I would definitely recommend exposing yourself to an entire competition - whether by watching a recording of a past competition or waiting for the next live one in Malmö, Sweden on Sat 11 May 2024. At 4 hours long, it's a bit of a marathon and you have to decide whether just to watch the grand final or also watch the two semi-finals (which take place on the Tue and Thu evenings before the event and are about 3 hours each). But it's definitely an experience and one that everyone should do at least once in their lives.

Eurovision is a contest for the song each country chooses to represent them. It can be any type of song. Maneskin winning was a pleasant surprise for everyone. Especially Italy as they hadn’t won in many many years. Metal is not always a popular genre but its been selected the lasted years and we see it more often in Eurovision. Eurovision made Celine Dion famous so its not for bands. Any artist can participate.

You should also see Finland, they came into the second place. They also won the audience votes The song is Cha Cha Cha by Käärijä. And if you have not heard Euphoria from Loreen, it is better song. With that song she won the Eurovisions in 2012.

Hey Alex. I bet someone mentioned this in the comments already, but gotta add it one more time. In Måneskin's name, the å is a scandinavian o, which is pronounced the same way as the "mon" in the word monster. Even thought the band is Italian, the name comes from Danish and means "moonlight". Just thought to mention it since you said it's one of your favorite bands. :)

Eurovision is the most diverse and entertaining show, full of different genres, styles, props, pyro and whatever you can imagine. The winner is chosen 50/50 by the public and a professional jury. They give points from 1 to 8, 10 and 12 and each country can't vote for itself. Basically those are the main rules.

@justgreat3292 Жыл бұрын
to be fair, the jury vote has been rigged for years. They often vote for who they want to win instead of who has the best song in their opinion and don't even vote on the final performances but rehearsals before the event instead, meaning that if someone had an exceptional rehearsal they can theoratically win with the worst final performance ever. Loreen's performance that evening was weak in my opinion (the one that got voted on, not the one she performed after she won, that one I enjoyed) and the public vote reflected that. I'm honestly not sure whether the jury actually would have voted for her as much if they voted on the final performances. I didn't really care for Cha Cha Cha. Was a fun listen, but nothing I'd expect to win Eurovision. Though they were the favourites of the public vote by miles. Actually enjoyed Australia the most. It just doesn't sit right with me that for a few years by now you could predict the Eurovision winner before they even announced which songs will be in the finals.

@@Dds123-l3z I'm sorry but are you really defending a jury not rating the actual performance (which is written on the official Eurovision page, so I'm not making this up)? Because for me a rating that isn't based on the final thing is never acceptable in any competition. That's like watching a boxing match but the winner got selected before the match by someone rating on who had the more convincing training. I'd argue that Formula 1 would be way more interesting if the winners of the last race had to start last in the next one instead of the fastest ones always starting first after finishing the Qualifying first as usual. Previous efforts shouldn't be a factor in any competition and in my opinion Eurovision jury voting takes this to an extreme by not rating the actual performance that gets broadcasted to the world. Of course the majority of people televote based on the studio versions and which band they support but I believe that at least 30% of the televote actually consists of people going in blind and enjoying the show. Additionally I don't think the jury is less biased than the televote, however I partially agree on televote having the risk of being manipulated, though I think it evens out by the people who are giving genuine votes. There also were some attempts to manipulate the jury votes in the past. And we are talking about the ones that got caught. Wouldn't surprise me if there were cases of manipulation that were not caught. But I think that neither jury voting nor televoting were decided by manipulation. Anyway, I'll leave it at that. You are biased towards jury voting, I am biased towards televoting. We won't agree with each other, I just cannot not respond if you are criticizing televoting without even acknowledging that there also are flaws in the jury voing system.

@@Dds123-l3z Which was very shady. There was no justification for her to get double amount of points compared to many incredible performances (like Spain, Israel, Estonia, Italy...). A just winner for jury votes (as they are scoring now), but not with anywhere near that high a margin. And there are loads of disgusting comments from jury members publicly available about Käärijä which obviously show he was not scored professionally but by prejudice from jury members who have no appreciation for different genre music and performances.

Definitely check out at least the top 3 or top 5! 😄 There is a "tiny" bit of a debate going on between the 1st and 2nd places but as a Finnish person I won't go too much into that, let's just say that the jury voted their favourite and audience theirs 😏It's a shame that there was many good songs that didn't even get into top 10. For example Cyprus really surprised me, their song was awesome! The point system has been the same from 2009 I think, at least until this years contest. Every country in Europe has a "jury" that votes their favourite songs and gives them points from 1-10 and a 12 points for their top picks. After that it's revealed from the last place on how much points the song gets from the audience. The placings can change drastically in this second stage but this year Loreen just got too much point from the jury so the audience points weren't enough to get a surprise winner. Or was Loreen the surprise winner? 😉Depends on whom you ask 😄
