Im Icelandic. Believeing in elves is just like believeing in santa claus. You grow up with elf stories and there is always this one elf stone or hill in your town. But then you grow up. Still there are people like Sigrit all over the place. And excactly that we do respect the creepy elf stories out of fear if they were real. If you look up some icelandic elf stories you won’t sleep at night. So very creepy. . . But nice

The UK has only ever won when they restricted singing to each country's national languages. It's a myth that it's down to tactical voting. In fact we have no clue what kind of music is popular across the EBU, maybe no-one else does either. But English has the advantage in the number of winning acts. 30 of the 60 winning songs have been in English. They last changed the rule in 1999 to allow anyone to sing in English and apart from 2007 every winner has been in English. So singing in your native language will probably not win you the contest.

Since they were always gonna be "disqualified" on the final song, it makes no sense to do the final voting in the movie, that's why it was done in the Semi so at least we get a taste of that. This was done on purpose and they worked with the EBU so they were aware. Also there's a lot of songs in Eurovision that sound "American"...

It doesn't necessarily mean that the UK won for Edinburgh to have been the host city. In real life the UK has hosted 4 (half of the UK's hosting tally) competitions where the previous winning country declined to host due to expenses/other reasons, and the UK was selected as the replacement country (it's happened 5 times where the winning country couldn't host and the UK was the replacement 4 out of the 5 times). My headcanon is that the same thing happened again, as they don't mention that the UK won the year before, but they make it a point that no one votes for them lol.

@@olivia4162 I mean, I didn't like the storyline, the narrative, the jokes. And the acts were quite awful. It wasn't all bad, I liked being able to hear Salvador Sobral's song (though I didn't like that scene I must say), and the last balad was good (though it could have been better without Will Ferrell singing it in my opinion). The only scene I really enjoyed was the song along, I would have appreciated if they sang more Eurovision songs though, they only sang Abba's and Celine Dion's, the rest of song were comercial songs. It could have been a Switched Song Challenge like in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019's interval act for example, it couldhave been even better, there were sooo many Eurovision singers there, I wished they could have stringed along the movie, maybe they could have made it better... And, I would have liked Petra Mede, Måns Zelmerlöw and/or Filomena Cautela as hosts, they are my favourites. Those that were pretending to be the Eurovision Song Contest 2020's host were a joke.

Rachel and Dan has the performance of their lifetime! I am happy that they haven’t announced the winner, because that wasn’t the point. The point was the motivation. Eurovision gives hope for people. It is like a football World Cup; people are connected within the country to support their “champion”. I never had Eurovision fever, Haven’t watched in the last 30 years but I am in Eurovision fever 🙈 I know songs, and some of the winner through social media posts. I already watched three times this movie. I also agree that the second ghost scene was not necessary. Iceland is a beautiful country, I miss traveling so much!! All the soundtracks are available on iTunes by the way!

I feel you I , it was not either for me a cool thing to like Eurovision . But I'm not ashamed anymore or I don't care what some people think. I love to discuss about Eurovision with my friends and other fans from all over Europe, to learn new things about other countries and mostly their music !

I wouldn't classify that rap song as American sounding. Maybe in the late 90's early 2000s. Sounds like someone trying to copy an American sound. Also pretty much every country that has rappers gained inspo from American artists. Since they invented modern hip-hop and rap. Also, the film is meant to be cookie cutter and predictable. It literally tells you the whole story in the trailer. It's a satirical film.

From what I saw in interviews Will Ferrell is a huge fan of Eurovision and when they approached them about making this movie he made sure that he let people who run Eurovision know that this was intended as a love letter to Eurovision and wasn't intended to be a mockery. I also thought that the 'bad guy' was just a nice guy who genuinely wanted Egrit to have a good life was refreshing. I think by making the person you root against still a good person it made Eurovision more wholesome, it could have easily made it seem like a joke if you made the participants look petty and vindictive. Eurovision from what I understand from this movie and interviews about it really is an amazing event where a huge portion of the world put aside differences and really celebrates each other and is genuinely happy for each other when they do good. We need more things that bring people together like this.

I'm Icelandic and a Eurovision fan. Being Icelandic, I hated the fact that none on of the names were Icelandic and no one spoke with an Icelandic accent. They sound like drunk Swedish. Also how it made Iceland look like this 3rd world country. And no, we don't believe in elves. But the movie over all gave me a feel good vibe

No mentioning of Estonia’s Elina? And did you know that the actress (Melissanthi Mahut) playing the Greek entry was also the voice actor for Kassandra in AC odyssey making her the first female protagonist in this franchise?

I'm Greek! I didn't know anything about Assassin's creed Odyssey but I recognized Melissanthi because, 2 years ago, she played the leading role in a Greek film about love and the Valentine's Day which was created by a chocolate company! @@tommay6590 I've just watched the video you sent me! Actually, I feel guilt for not knowing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, before! As I see, this game tries to export the Greek civilization by informing the gamers about ancient Greece and by teaching the word "Malaka"😁! Now, I'd like to start playing it but, generally, I don't play video games like this!

I absolutely loved this film and since it came out, I have watched it 7 times! I adore the music and thought they did a really good job of making it as real a Eurovision experience as they could. It definitely made up for not having the competition this year. I would have loved to see the full, interrupted performance of Lion if Love - such fun and Dan Stevens - just wow! Now I am off to bake some biscuits for the Elves!

I really enjoyed this movie, it was fun to see all the winks to Sweden (not strange with his wife being swedish) and the entire Eurovision. It has also been fun reading what people think about it. Americans tend to not like it very much, as they are not understanding the concept or Eurovision or have even seen/heard of it. One american was quite angry over "Hollywood trying to shove their agenda on people with people being gay, trans etc". He had no idea that those were true Eurovision participants. ;) But a lot of them liked it and I think we can expect more americans tuning in next year or even visiting the event.

I love this movie. I watched it last night. I'm American, so I have no frame of reference for Eurovision, but I love Will Ferrell and have for decades since I was a kid watching him on SNL. The rest of the cast was bang on. My Dublin born wife, wasn't so much a fan as she felt it was doing Eurovision a disservice. Meh. That song at the end got me right in the feels and the sentiment right after it by where the Greek singer and Russian are speaking and she says, "You deserve to be happy too," and he replies, "Mother Russia does not agree." GREAT COMMENTARY on the bullshit going on in Russia regarding treatment of LGBTQ+ people. The singing by Will and Rachel was amazing, and I genuinely wonder if the Icelandic actors knew they'd break into Icelandic or if that surprise on the screen was real and they weren't expecting it. Not gonna lie, I was really hoping John C. Riley would pop out of the elf house at some point lol. Good video for a great movie.

Hi Noosh. Loved your review.. Just in case you were unaware, the venue it was filmed in was the Israel Tel Aviv arena 2019, which was a very small venue for Eurovision.. In fact, in the final song where they get disqualified, Will Ferell played that ballad on Duncan Laurence's piano, the same one Duncan sat at in his winning song. I loved the in-jokes, I loved the casting. I counted 6 Eurovision winners ❤ I agree with you that the ghost scenes with Demi Lovato were unnecessary.. it's rating #2 on Netflix in Australia. Overall for me, 7.5 out of 10.

the point system wouldn't have been as emotional/ important at the finals since Fire Saga was going to be eliminated for singing "Husavik" instead of "double trouble" . It was smart to change the point system to be shown during the semi finals for movie purposes. That way they can cut to a "at home, happy ending" instead of seeing who won... Although🤔 that would have been AWESOME to see too. 😆

Salvador was kind of a douchebag about doing this movie. He asked a lot of money because he didnt think they would say yes, and then he did one scene and i guess Will Ferrel asked him to do another and he said no, and he was pissed!(Will Ferrel). As a portuguese that really pissed me off. Many portuguese singers and actors would love a change like this, oh well...
