This was a strange Eurovision year with all those duos and a lot of music that didn't really reflect what was going on in the charts and on the international music scene. Betty Mars for example was a skilled cabaret singer, but the song and its style sounded like it could have been for Edith Piaf in the 1940s and 50s. There were a lot of songs that sounded outdated even in the 1970s. Fortunately there was wonderful Vicky with her ballad earning herself forever a special place in the hearts of Eurovision fans as have Anne - Marie and Severine. The New Seekers, Mary Roos and Thereza were all good too I think.

I first listeneed to the studio versions of the song and didn't care at all for the Irish entry, but the live performance was beautiful, very elegant, graceful and lovely sang. Austria's song is really good, especially the instrumental, I was just a little put of by the lady's vocal as it was slightly too loud (same with Portuguese backing vocals). Personal final ranking: 01. Luxembourg 02. Ireland 03. Austria 04. UK 05. Yugoslavia

It was the 1st ESC I saw at all in this eve before 'palm sunday' 4 months before my 14th birthday and 2 weeks after my confirmation. I went sleeping after the Norwegian entry; at all I know about this competition, cause one of my elder sisters said: Jetzt kommt d'r Grand Prox, den will I säha (now the ESC will come, I want to see it). In the western part of Germany the Duch entry was the only great hit of Sandra & Andres. "Was soll ich tun"? Watching this uploaded clip in a good material now 2 days after our German preselection in 2022 (Germany, 12 points), I can say, that Mary Roos made a good performance with much force of expression, however she had fiever (it was written in newspapers by this time). But the song I love most and which touches my emotions so much that I almost can't hold back tears is the French one - performed by Betty Mars in a classical outfit: a musette walse.

The best winner ever and a great British Entry also. My favourite winner and this was the first Eurovision I saw aged 7 and I am 57 years old now.

now WHY has Vicky Leandros' song been muted??? She did fantastically, and sang so emotionally in the contest....

Its bizarre that after 49 years, the winning song is muted. Any reason?

I was only 13 back then and the Eurovision was a big occasion in our house but I recall the whole show as being lacklustre and a bit disappointing. The winning song was the best of a bad lot. I am Irish and at school all the teachers we were having an organism over that bloody Irish song. We were even made to learn the Irish song off by heart. God I so hated that song.

Only one decent song here, and that was from the New Seekers, whose format paved the way for future success in 1974 for Abba. Everything else at this gig was was absolute blx.

I don't know why England bother to send people to the ESC year after year. Their 1972 song was pathetic, and the New Seekers's performance in Edinburgh was feeble. It's just not good enough. As to the 1972 winner, this was the same Vicky who gave that unforgettable performance for Luxembourg at the ESC in Vienna in 1967, and now she wipes the floor with the New Seekers in 1972. I'll bet that the only Brit who was happy with the New Seekers's bad performance, their lousy song, and Vicky's triumph, was Roy Wood. Everybody must be laughing at the English. They have an enormous population, and they can't produce any performers who can be taken seriously. Only about six people must live in Luxembourg, and yet they can produce no end of great musicians and performers.

Total cobblers. From 1967 to 1977 Britain were winners 3 times, runner up 5 times, 4th place twice and 3rd place once. Robbed here and in 1968 and 1975.

First of all it's British not English. Secondly British modern music is phenomenonal. We don't have to prove ourselves at Eurovision.
