Lyrics
Would I Lie To You?
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
My friends, know what's in store.
I won't be here anymore.
I've packed my bags
I've cleaned the floor.
Watch me walkin'.
Walkin' out the door.
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
Tell you straight, no intervention.
To your face, no deception.
You're the biggest fake.
That much is true.
Had all I can take.
Now I'm leaving you
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you?
Would I lie to you honey?
Now would I say something that wasn't true?
I'm asking you sugar
Would I lie to you?
My friends, know what's in store.
I won't be here anymore.
I've packed my bags
I've cleaned the floor.
Watch me walkin'.
Walkin' out the door.
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Believe me, I'll make it make it
Would I lie to you?

Beyond question her best screen performance. Camera loves her here and she has such presence. Back in the days I used to think she could have success acting, but I guess that's one talent she doesn't have or wasn't interested in. First heard the album is a house in Washington DC in 1986 (on maybe the first cd player I ever encountered), and must have played this track a dozen times in succession. And now come back to watch this video regularly. NB I do NOT think 'all music was better in my day' (when was 'my day' anyway, the 50s.60s 70s 80s...I dunno) I just like good stuff from whatever time and place, so there's no rose-tinted false nostalgia about this. (I hated that trip to the US).

In my opinion this is one of the best songs the Eurythmics produced. It’s full of raw emotion and pure music. The video boosts it but the song has so much punch it doesn’t need a video. Just love it. Thank you Dave n Annie for all you have given us over the years. Real music came from the 80s and you were a massive part of that ❤❤

One of the best voices to come out of Britain in the 80's, Annie Lennox could, and still can, sing anything well. She and Dave Stewart (on guitar here) date back to their days with the Tourists in the 70's and made some very good records as both friends and lovers over the years.

When Sweet Dreams (are made of this) came out in 1983, I was a senior in high school. The song and the band were just ok to me. Then, in my science class, I met Rebecca K. She invited me to sit with her at her desk, as each desk seated 2, and she had no one sitting with her. After a few days, Rebecca told me that whenever she heard Sweet Dreams, she thought of me. So, guess which song instantly became my favorite song? After high school we drifted apart. I’m not sure if it was because I was allergic to her cats, but I kept her photo that she gave me in my wallet for over 2 decades, even though my marriage, as my wife didn’t mind. I still think about you, Rebecca K. And especially when I hear any song by this incredible band! ❤

From the first video...I slept, dreamed, ate, lived MTV....in the beginning I thought it was just temporary, so I was afraid to turn it off and watch anything else (when I wasn’t at work singing with bands at the time)...I re-enacted all those songs from every female singer...and would even learn dance steps. When Eurythmics came out, Annie Lennox was it for me because she was rock and roll/New Wave with soul! Man, do I miss those days! Then MTV turned into crap when they started playing reality stuff...I curse the day “The Real World” came on. That was the beginning of the end.

@@chocolatetownforever7537 Hi dude you know things like music is subjective, I'd like to hears yours too! : For me my top 5 ( hard to select) Ann Wilson, the brunette of Heart, one good one is "How do I get you alone" soaring voice as always also Barracuda although I don5t like the song...., Karen Carpenter maybe the most beautiful pure voice ever, several of hers are great, Lady Gaga who i thought was just a publicity hound (she apparently is) bug damn she can sing, try a-capella version of "born this way", one of my sensual faves is Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders, not sure if it is her vocal talent or her seductivenes...my problem...except for Chrissy H I am picking real vocalists not just faves....then it is a tie between Gladys Knight (Midnight train to Ga.) or Aretha, but I dont like Aretha's style, so I guess my 5 is Gladys..! Hope you reply, I am just trying to come out of this ridiculous sheltering stuff. btw names not really ronnie toots...seemed like a good idea at the time.

@@ronnietoots6797 Lol I hear you about the name. I think its just fine, and I dig your list. My list? In no specific order, I think you have to put Karen Carpenter on there. She was simply amazing. As you know, I want Annie Lennox on my list as well. She had the pipes, but also a lot of soul. I truly feel shes underrated in terms of all time great voices. Another I love is Marie Fredriksson, from the 80s band Roxette. She tragically passed last year, but even while she was on earth, I swear she sounded like an angel. "It must have been love, but its over now" is one of my favorite songs of all time, and its because of her voice. Aretha is pretty damn good lol, but. Im going to go with Dionne Warwick. It might not be a blasting voice like Aretha Franklin, but its just so smooth and unique. I know its Dionne Warwick singing, without knowing its her. Whos last? Im going to go with Whitney Houston. Unlike Warwick and Franklin, she had a boomer. To this day, she sang the best version of the Star Spangled Banner ive ever heard. I love that she not only hit the notes, but didnt overdo it with the BS that some do when singing that song. She was one of my first crushes in the 80s, she was incredibly beautiful, and had talent. The whole package. Thats my list. Probably not perfect, but not bad lol. Its fun talking with you about it. I love talking to people that value history, because it seems so many cant even remember yesterday, let alone 40 years ago.
