This is actually one of my favorite Eurythmics songs. And it is also a showcase of the incredible vocal range of Annie Lennox.
@zentraveler1834 Жыл бұрын
The experience was quite different in 1985. The fact that it’s still being discussed some forty years later says enough. The Eurythmics were at the vanguard of the pop/synth revolution both musically and visually. Dave Stewart produced an extraordinary song catalogue, And Annie Lennox, she has cemented herself as one of greatest female vocalists of the twentieth century.

Peak Eurythmics. Vocally and musically stunning. One of my very, very favourite 80's tracks, and one that for some reason always puts me in the back of my Dad's shop as a 10 year old. Stevie Wonder on harmonica.

This was a huge, huge song back in the day. One of their biggest hits and such an earworm, based on the vocal and the harmonica. By today's standards, I can understand why people find it a bit odd, but at the time it was so distinctive and summed up the new sound that Eurythmics were pioneering in the 80s.

I find that hard to believe but for now I'll take your word for it. Is it unusual for a UK act to be so much more of an export like that? These guys were SO HUGE in the U.S.!!!! And if anything, this song was a relatively minor hit, at least in my memory.

@LetsChillPage Жыл бұрын
@fabienneclavier5984 The "come on" is too much. That's your opinion, not mine. Say you don't like it. It's more respectful for the artist. For me, this version is, on the contrary, taken to the next level, thanks to Christophe Maë's voice (and harmonica). So it's just a question of taste, not of a "waste."

I get it. I like this song a LOT but I don't love it. Having heard it since I was a kid, I LOOOOOVE that opening "da da DA da dan da dan daaaa" and I wish that was the main hook of the whole song. And I love that they come back to it at the end, but it's a better hook than "must be talkin' to an angel" IMO. I do love the synths and harmonica too though. And her vocals are just insanely good, so I don't want to sound like I'm badmouthing the song - I just like others better.
@pierre-yvespoulard6617 Жыл бұрын
I was a teenager when was released this song that invaded charts and radio, and Eurythmics was one one my favourite groups, alongside with Depeche Mode, U2, Alphaille, The Cure, Indochine... But this song is not my favourite, I prefer much more Swet dreams (of course), Love is a stranger, Who's that girl, Here comes the rain again, Beethoven... and, like you, Derek, there are things that I like much in this song, and others that I don't. But music doesn't need to be perfection, as long as it brings emotion. And music of the 80's brought so much of it !

Hmmm I listened to all these 80's tracks during my late teens and early 20's and I agree with your with your comments. Super good taste and and real musical intuition. Too much chorus. I love it but it's somehow excessive. Electroclash sharpness has improved this kind of tracks. Thinking of Goldfrapp, Róisín Murphy, Marsheaux…
