Well done Sandi! She stayed with her flock until the close of her eyes. She will live on in the genes of her lambs. That is all one can ask of the stock is to carry on the duty of the farm. Maybe what she lacked in lambs was replaced by the joy she put into being your special friend. She wouldn't have be able to give so much to you if she had more lambs to tend. Ruthie was success as she filled your needs. God bless you! He will send more special lambs as needed. You need softness of heart to uphold your toughness of heart on the harder days. Shine on Sandi! "Getting Skinnier" literally means that this Ewe, despite having enough food, just wasn't getting enough energy to maintain her. She didn't have any fat and little muscle. It's 100% understandable why she had to euthanize her. This is exactly like a dog. Sometimes they just can't be fixed. Sometimes you have to do this, or they will suffer a slow, painful death.

Sandi, I found your channel by accident and now addicted to your sheep life! I have started from the beginning to catch up. When I saw the title of this one I almost didn't want to watch. But I told myself I owed it to you to watch every part. It was not how I expected to feel. I felt sad for Ruthie that she was sick, but more so for you that not only you were having to watch her suffer but you also ended her suffering. To say I cried is understated. You were so brave. I can't say enough how much respect I have for you that you did that yourself alone. Watching this reminded me of when our mare that was 6 months pregnant was injured and was down. We couldn't get a vet out to put her down before the next day. My husband said he would put her down. I couldn't stay. I felt like such a coward. I loaded our other 5 horses on the trailer and took them to my nieces farm. I didn't want them to see that. My husband told me later on as we were crying about what had happened. He said that my nieces husband stayed behind and offered to put her down for him. He told him. "No I have to do it. There won't be any love in your bullet." That struck me so hard. He loved her enough to take the pain of putting her down to make sure she wasn't alone and it was done right. That's what this video reminded me of. You loved her enough to take the pain of doing it yourself to be with her. Thank you for sharing your life with us. You are an inspiration!! Much love from. Alabama 🇺🇸

@TheQuietOne954 жыл бұрын
@@hsichingchen406 We do practice involuntary euthanasia in humans, in cases where the patient is brain dead, and or injuries are considered "incompatible to life" it falls to the next of kin to make the decision, and the wishes of the individual may sometimes be ignored. Regardless, naturally an injured, sick or dying animal is culled off by predation or the elements, and thus would not suffer prolonged pain or illness. In a human made environment such as a barn however, where humans control everything and are 100% responsible for the condition and well-being of their animals it is at times necessary to make that decision to end the animals pain, because they have no means of ending it themselves except for starvation or dehydration which are arguably far worse and Ruthie was not eating. As for eating animals that have died naturally, generally that isn't practiced for several reasons. If the animal is diseased, the flesh is usually labelled hazardous due to the risk of transmissible diseases that can be transferred to humans or our pets. But generally if an animal dies of old age it is a poor quality meat and a lot of people dislike it. I'm really not sure what your argument is here though... Ruthie was clearly more a pet. She was cared for and I highly doubt Sandi had any intention of eating her, and 100% had her best interest in mind.

I think 🤔 it's good to know that all life matters. We must appreciate their life and their sacrifice. A good shepherd loves their flock and their lives are intertwined. Without the sheep the shepherd would not have meat and wool to eat and to trade or sell for other goods that others produce. Without the shepherd the sheep would no longer be cared for and bred and propagated they would no longer have protection and the end of life in nature is if you have ever watched a real documentary is never very kind or peaceful for either the prey animal or the predatory one. Life and the end of life is harsh and usually does not end neither quickly nor peacefully.

@@hazzy6866 I could never do it. I could never watch a precious lamb being born knowing in the back of my mind I was going to send it off to be slaughtered. My mind could not compartmentalize in that way. My job has been animal rescue for the last 50 years. I understand slaughter is necessary so that people can eat meat. I'm just saying that I personally could not raise and care for animals that were going to be slaughtered and I've been that way since my aunt raised a calf to butcher. I liked that gentle calf and never quite got over that they slaughtered a "pet".

@@edemontfort9482 I lived next door to a smallholder sheep farmer, who was maybe in his 50s, and he took good care of them (aside from castrating lambs with pliars) but he hated sending them to slaughter. He was attached to his sheep. It was a line of work that he had inherited and I often felt like he had no idea why he was doing it. He was always poor too. Each year he would pick a favourite lamb to save as well as those selected to be ewes. So he was always followed by about 6 adult sheep that he fed milk to and let wander in and out of his kitchen. I don't think he liked it at all. They were being born to be killed. I feel like if a lot of the best livestock farmers saw footage of the slaughter of their particular lambs, piglets and calves at the abattoir they would be horrified and traumatised. It would be a bad shock.

😭 Major respect goes out to you. Debated if commenting would re cycle this sad memory, but I didn’t see anyone comment the following (at least I didn’t see)... I noticed that all the others watched you bring Ruthie out and they also watched you walk back. It was the sweetest thing. You are so loved by your sheep and they were all there with you in this moment. They respected you and most importantly you were not alone. Thanks for being humane and human. Xo

Thank you for posting this. I have a very special wether that is 13 years old that I have to put down today. He is the first sheep I picked out for my flock. He's been a wonderful friend. Even though he's a wether, we were able to use him as a teaser ram when we were doing V-AI. He loved his job! :-) I will miss him dearly. You have showed me that this method of euthanasia is much better than a gun. Farming is hard. Many facets of it that most people don't see. This is one of them. So sorry for your loss of Ruthie.

Hallelujah. Perfect. The hardest thing to do. Horse folks say when they pass they go over Rainbow Bridge to lush green fields & wait for us to join them. I can hardly wait.🐎❤️🙏🏻

You’re amazing, my heart aches . Even though it was a year ago. You’re so strong and compassionate. You didn’t let her suffer. Even if it made you cry. It’s not a weakness it’s because you cared and still do a great job. I have been loving watching you lamb this season!!! All the best for 2020!!!

Oh Sandi, I am still binge watching you again and I had to stop and tell you, I actually love how you are with your pets. You are what I call a empath. If you lacked any of these qualities you wouldn't be able to keep going. You are a beautiful soul and your compassion shows. As tears stream down seeing you in so much pain, I am hugging you tight from Iowa. I know it's been a few years now, but that heart hasn't changed. Much love to you.

It’s so sad but what impressed me the most was how the other lambs acted like they knew what just happened!!!
