Nice video, as for future content, a how to accurately estimate total demand of an existing installation when surveying for an EV charge point would be good

And how long before they start fitting resistors on to cheaper cables to fool the charger in to thinking it's a more capable cable?

The standard is designed actually so as you add more resistance the rated current goes down. Also means if you have a poor contact on the sense connection, the charger in theory should reduce the charge current capacity down

Nice video. How about tackling the 6mA DC RCD test that is causing so many problems. To be fair Metrel is pretty close after their latest firmware update but even they are not 100% yet. Fluke, my brand of choice, say maybe by the end of the year they will bring something to market (don't hold your breath), Megger do a ramp test for the DC and so nearly always return a value higher than 6mA even when the RDC-DD/Type B is working just fine. We all now know the dangers of DC leaking back into the coils of RCD's (slow or even no tripping) and so the standards set out in IEC 62955 are very important but we lack the test equipment to consistently verify compliance. As installers what do we do?

Hi, u were talking about measuring the Rlow of the cable. Do u have a table with the acceptable range for all the different charging cables?

Great Tester - but, whilst these testers check the chargers with varying test parameters, what about the Type2 cable itself - does the cable need periodic testing and if yes, how can this be done?

Super video as ever!! What happens if you select the incorrect setting for capacity the lead and then carry out the test? Cheers

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to test tethered chargers (i.e. the Type 2 cable permanently attached to the charger)?

So… does one have to purchase a brand new mft or will my 1721 linked up with the adapter work on? Apart from the 6mA dc test

Sorry not EV related, but can you help I’m an electrician and just installed a Hot Tub @ a domestic dwelling, we’ve done an Installation Certificate but can’t find the period between the install & Condition report test in the Regs. I’ve put down five years? Cheers guys, great videos 👍

Hi all, great video as always, can I ask where you found the wiring diagram of the cp & pp connection, this would be great to use in training for our engineers to gain a better understanding of how these pilot connections work

Correct me if I am wrong but as I understand the “charger” is integral part of the car. The charge point is only a power supply to the charger in the car.

i like metrel but they dont have a good supply network which is a worry for such a expensive machine , dont know why they dont supply direct

EV testing facilities should be integral to all modern testers, all these plug in adapters are just manufacturers playing catchup and charging us for it. All those prompt screens, if you don't know what tests you need to do maybe you shouldn't be doing them!
@MarkC-19703 жыл бұрын
I agree the Metrel is overcomplicated/unnecessary and I don't like the build quality one bit. The unit looks and feels like a toy not a professional tool. That said, Metrel are the only ones who can complete all the test correctly. Fluke haven't addressed the EV test and the Megger 1741+ that is supposed to address the EV test doesn't do it. Like I said, the adapters are not the problem, the fact that we cannot properly test our installs is most definitely a problem. These guys say they are about to address the issue with the problematic 6mA DC test, it will be an interesting video and I dare say lively in the comments.
